You should be using a $10 perks voucher, if you can still get one, as the discount is greater.

They should just give them out for free. And charge a fee when you need to find something.

    • That’s a novel idea!

    • +1

That's an environmental disaster waiting to happen. Besides, they already charge a fee for advanced features.

Bought one for $20 a few months ago.
Works ok for beeping when you lose your key down the back of the lounge (and making your phone beep if you lose it, but have the keys).
Need to pay a monthly fee to get the "find via other people" feature.

Unless you have no apple devices at all, the apple version is probably better.

      +1 on that
I used tile before, and while it was a reasonable deal when nothing else was on offer, the Apple AirTag is a killer.
While not an Apple fan, I used an older iPad and could track my luggage on my way to Europe, and been able to track my car, etc.
The coverage with anything else (and I have tried the Samsung tag as well) is incomparable.

  • Just to let you know if this device leads you to a place where the item is lost or stolen, please don’t attempt to recover the item all by yourself but ask for help instead. A 42 year old man was stabbed and killed by a 15 year old boy when he tried to recover the stolen bike by himself.

    • And by help, you mean police? I've got nothing against the cops, but I don't know if they would do anything to help. We were broken into once, and the cops just said they'll write a report for us to give to insurance. Nothing more.

At least not to go there alone? Yeah cops are hopeless in Australia that I learned it from my personal experience that my friend once called the police station only less than 5km away for help to stop a crazy driver tried to randomly run over pedestrians in a car park and the cop told her over the phone they wouldn’t do anything if no one was dying. Haha..they somehow reluctantly showed up an hour later to make a report after the crazy driver left the scene.

I wouldn’t get one if you have small children, the back comes off very easy (no screw) and if they eat the battery they’ll be dead in a few hours

The official documentation itself shows how easy it is to open the battery compartment on the 2020 models. I presume this is why the newer Tiles have sealed batteries now.

Unsecured button batteries are no laughing matter… when swallowed, they will literally burn holes through internal organs and cause internal bleeding.

It took 19 days for Bella Rees to die. Her parents had taken her to the hospital four times. She was only 14 months old.

        • I struggle to get mine off everytime so if a child can get it off that easily I am damn impressed.

if they eat the battery they’ll be dead in a few hours

This is a potentially disastrous situation, and the reason why I keep spare button batteries always on hand. Of course, if you can get the battery out before it goes dead, all the better

New laws are about to come into affect with this stuff. All new products with button batteries need a screw to secure the cover (or something like that)

    • I changed the battery on mine this week and it was a prick of a thing to remove the battery cover.

Regarding batteries and young kids, I think you'll find the issue is with the smaller button size battery (LR44) which is very small - about the size of a vitamin c pill, hence easily swallowed. These take the larger battery (CR2032) which is similar in size to a one dollar coin.

      • I don’t know myself on the battery size, but that (CR2032) is the same size battery as the AirTag which many or most AU retailers won’t stock due to the same concern with battery choking.

I researched a bit on these when looking for locator for some of the items in the house since my kid likes to hide them in weird places. I think Tiles were not cheap at that time and I found these key finders on Amazon instead that works really well (uses RF instead of bluetooth, which are more reliable anyway), comes with batteries and shuts tight so the battery wont come off unless you use the special tool to open it. Comes with 6 locators so cheaper compare to Tiles or any solution that uses bluetooth.

Was it really cheaper to use up time to do research and money to buy trackers than to lecture the kid?

      • +2

        Good luck lecturing an infant.

        • lecture chickens yes but kids forget it

      • Was it really cheaper to use up time to do research and money to buy trackers than to lecture the kid?

Tell me you don't have kids without telling me you don't have kids

    • The remote needs its own tracker.

    • Top find!

  • Tx got one today to try and see who else my cat goes to for food lol. Very limited range on this. Glad it was only $5. Think I'll just put it on my keys.
