out of all the things you guys sell, this is the best deal ?

    • -1

and something that everybody might be interested in?

      • -1

Agreed,it either needs to get out of the warehouse or someone doesnt know their customers.

  • Seems to have retailed previously at officeworks for $567 and was released last year or the year before. Potentially a bargain?

  • +3

    Hi guys,

This scanner may not appeal to everybody but for those who are interested we think it's a bargain. Staticice's best price is $488 http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=i920&spos=3 and Shopbot is also $488 http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=i920. All feedback is appreciated!

    • 600 x 600 could be better…

      2-sided scanning seems a plus…

BUT why such an -awful- price, for a scanner that can only hold (was it 24 sheets) in its feed hooper?!?

It's a deal for Kodak, a sinking ship of a company (at least in cameras)

  • +1

What support is there for this device? Hasn't Kodak gone bankrupt and closed-down?

    • Lol oh dear

    • You can always return it to Officeworks.

      • Not always… Better check…

  • +5

Or get it delivered to your door for US$283 (approx A$290) from Amazon.com ;)

Hi Cynix, when you buy from Amazon you don't receive the 3 year Advanced Unit Replacement warranty and you've got to purchase a 110v to 240v step up transformer.

      • +9

Actually it comes with a 100-240V AC adapter so no problem here.

Amazon's product page also states that it comes with 3-year AUR warranty.

Kodak's credit line, as part of its bankruptcy protection, only lasts until June 2013. Unless they manage to come up with a revolutionary new product (nuclear-powered digital camera perhaps?) I doubt they will be around in 3 years time to honour a warranty anyway.

        • I think Officeworks means that Kodak dont offer WW warranty, meaning Amazon has an issue, Kodack go, "Good to note, but have fun!"

        • Amazon's normally pretty good with customer service & warranties though, shouldn't be a problem.

        • Its a MFG warranty not an amazon warranty

  • Didn't Kodak go bye bye? Will this product still be under support?

Office works, can you price match as per your policy?

  • 15PPM Colour/20PPM Mono = sloooooow.

20 sheet ADF? yeah set it and forget it….

    • Slow for printing, but not too bad for scanning…. the 20 page ADF sounds small though….

  • … thanks for the thought… I'm sure it's a quality bit of kit, but of course for $24 less you can get the HP PRO 100 M175NW(http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pri…) that has a 35 page ADF (versus 20), does 12001200DPI scanning (versus 600600DPI). Don't think it does double sided scanning, but it is a colour laser printer.

If you need duplex scanning I think this (http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pri…) does it as well… an extra $20, but it's also a fax machine, colour printer, has a 50 page ADF, and it can scan at 4800*4800DPI.

    • Pretty sure these MFC units aren't sheet-fed scanners.

      • Most MFC units with ADF units that also scan, will also scan using those ADF units. I had two Brother MFC printers that did it, and my current Epson does it as well. Most of them don't do duplex scanning though - that requires some extra smarts in the ADF itself.

    • If the alternative device you're suggesting uses INK, I'd suggest there's a HIDDEN COST in it:

Just turning it On likely WASTES vast quantities of INK, and ink is COSTLY!

See if the above is true… and - if it is - leave it for businesses who can afford to "feed" it ink FOREVER.

  • even $290 @ amazon doesnt seem like a bargain for these specs.

  • FFS guys Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankrupcy, meaning sort your shit out else your g000ne, just like alot of other companies in the US, most come out ok some dont…

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airline_bankruptcies_in_the_Uni…

Untill they file chapter 7 there is no need to worry…

Sure, Kodak may die and not a single screw or replacement part ever be made available before your warranty runs out. BUT even if Kodak DOES implode, it does NOT absolve Officeworks of their resposibilily - as a "supplier" under Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Australian Consumer Law) - to manage their warranty obligations to consumers.

Officeworks, as the supplier under The Act, has liability for the prescribed requirements for warranties against defects to (and I quote):

" (a) repair or replace the goods or part of them; or
      (b) provide again or rectify the services or part of them; or
      (c) wholly or partly recompense the consumer;

if the goods or services or part of them are defective…."

IMHO, we have some of the best consumer laws IN THE WORLD. For this reason alone, I wouldn't bother buying from Amazon or elsewhere to save $20-30 on an item like this (read: moving parts, optics etc).

Hi everyone, we appreciate your input as it will help us to deliver stronger offers to the OzBargain community in the future. We will look into this further tomorrow and look forward to clarifying all questions. Thanks for all the feedback

    • While you're here, does the OTHER scanner/FAX - mentioned above - use any INK, ie, if you DON'T print?

If it -does- do you have any other scanners (pref with a FAX function) that do NOT waste ink, eg, when switching it on (eg, laser-based, rather than INK based)…

      …oh, double-sided scanning REQUIRED. :-)

      Please advise, thanks.

(Prove me right or wrong in my WARNING to those who might be considering paying an -extra- $20 today, but paying LOADS of $$$ over its useful lifetime.)

  • AFAIK, if OW sells you a product on the premise of a 3 year wty, then the manufacturer goes tail-up, the onus falls back to OW as the retailer to honour the balance of the wty doesn't it?

I'm too lazy ATM to search for the relevant FT legislation, but I have a recollection that is how it works…happy to be corrected by someone in the know or less lazy though! ;)

    • yeh- im pretty sure this is the case for the retailer

    • Spot-on, Stew. (Sorry, went into semi-rant/semi-educate mode a couple of replies above).

      • Cheers, no probs; it's nice to have someone sharing the semi-rant workload with me! ;)

I use my phone snap.snap.snap and convert to PDF for FREE

  • The majority of the deals that OW post here seem..kinda bad. Ozbargain members are harder to rip-off than non-members so please only post genuine good deals here.

  • +7

    Wow harsh critics here.

Rep has posted a product which is $150 cheaper than anywhere else in Aus and you are comparing it to MFC printers which scan at 1 or 2ppm ADF single sided.

This is a document scanner, not a bloody printer!

    • +2

Agreed. Once you've worked with a real document scanner you can appreciate the difference.

Our office is in the process of electronic-ifying some archived paper files, watching the admins doing it I cringe to think of how tedious it would be on a MFC! ;)

      • "Once you've worked with a real document scanner you can appreciate the difference."

        ^^^^^^ THIS!

      • +1

Also agreed, although I should note that the MFC I linked as an option is not an entry level job but scans at about 6 pages per minute - significantly slower than the Kodak, but then again as well as scanning at a much higher resolution it is able to hold 2.5 times (50 versus 20) sheets of paper…. having to keep stacking pages into a scanner can be just as bad as having a slow scanner…. Personally if I had to have a lot of pages scanned I'd use neither and send it to a professional service…..

  • Picked one up. Was looking for a twain compliant duplex document scanner with a small footprint. Prices normally start at $600 plus for this type of scanner so with 3 yr warranty and able to claim back GSt this is good deal for me!

    • I got a Fujitsu scansnap 1500 from Amazon for a similar price. It isn't twain compatible though. Damn good though.

  • They had to list this thing as a bargain… sounds more like a can of worms with all this bankrupt talk…
