[VIC] Free One Way Ferry Ticket from Docklands to Geelong on May 21 & 28 @ Port Phillip Ferries (AFL Match Day Ticket Required)

560
freefootyferry

Interesting deal I stumbled upon while flicking through Facebook. If you hold a match day ticket for either the Geelong vs Port Adelaide game on May 21 or the Geelong vs Adelaide game on May 28, both being held at GMHBA Stadium (Kardinia Park) in Geelong, you can use the code "freefootyferry" to obtain a free ticket on the Port Phillip Ferry service between Docklands (Victoria Harbour) and Geelong (Steampacket Pier) before the game.

When you board, you will be required to show staff your AFL match day ticket to ride for free. The Ferry departs at 11am, arriving at 12:30pm. If you wish to take the ferry back to Docklands after the game, the price is $18 for Adults, $16 for Concession Holders, $10 for Children and $48.50 for 2 Adults & 2 Children.

It's a 24 minute walk (according to Google Maps) between the Geelong terminal and GMHBA Stadium. You can also save more money by taking the V/Line train back to Melbourne from South Geelong Station instead with fares costing $9.66 for Adults and $4.83 for Concession Holders / Children.

Please note that with the V/Line, coaches replace trains between Wyndham Vale and Waurn Ponds on May 21 and Geelong and Waurn Ponds on May 28, so you may want to catch the 5:30 pm ferry back to Melbourne instead. On May 28 however, you can also walk 24 minutes from GMHBA to Geelong Station to catch the train back to Melbourne.

    Good post op

Very good. Now where can we get free tickets to the game?

    • +1

      Same question 😃

      • And after that where can we get free Vline transport back from the game?

  • +1

Just as an interesting comparison commentary… I don't know what other areas do, but in Queensland they make travel on public transport free (like a wide range of transport, lots of zones on train and bus etc) to ticket holders of major events at Suncorp Stadium and the Gabba etc regularly. Minimises people causing traffic mayhem, and they can just have trains waiting and open the flood gates at the end of match and flood the trains with people without anyone scanning or being checked and disperses people all over quite quickly.

    • Public transport free in Perth too with a ticket to an AFL match. Not too sure about other events but I would assume it's also included (no parking at Optus stadium)

      • Wikipedia says Optus stadium has 1400 parking spaces.

        • It's not public parking, they are "reserved for staff, premium ticket holders and disability parking."

As a frontline first responder, v-line fairs are free for me. Cheers OP, I'd upvote if I could.

    • +1

You could still upvote if you tried.

Legit can't. I mean I could create endless new accounts with my VPN and upvote the worst deals to the top of this site if I could be bothered but at the end of the day I only put in the effort thats required to make me laugh.

first responder and is also a 'hacker', hats off to you sir

          • +1

            @alo1234: That's…. That's not what hacking is at all…

My ability to upvote deals has been restored now anyway. Just in time for a democracy sausage!

            Don't forget to vote!

    • Not sure if I'm missed something, but I had no idea frontline first responders could get free v-line travel. Can you share more details about this - can't find anything online?

      • +1

Depends on who you work for. I get free state-wide travel and a Myki with my ugly mug on it

  • "Free one way"…how do we get home?

    • Might have to try hitchhiking back to Melbourne if you don’t wanna pay!

No one ever comes back from Geelong…

      • Judging by the number of melbournians who couldnt handle the housing priced up there, yeah that is true.

    • You don't. It's a trap!

  • They will take you to the shutter island instead hence the one way ride.

Heading over for the Port game and needing travel from Melb to Geelong and return.
Would have just used the VLine which is very cheap however they've got a substantial amount of trackwork meaning trains are offline for half the trip and you're shunted onto coaches.
    Good deal op

    • I'll add some more info to the description because of the rail shutdowns.

  • +2

Just FYI - coaches replace vlines on the Geelong line from Sat 30th of Apr till Sat 28th of May. It could take even longer than usual to get back into Melb so you’re prob better off taking the ferry back!

    • Good point to raise. I'll put some more info in the description.

Mate this is the most direct ozbargain I've found on here after a decade on the website.

I was literally trying to work out with mates just now how the hell I get down there, usually a lift from the mrs who is originally from Geelong, but this week she can't.

No trains from Wyndham onward, not a chance in hell that I catch a bus down there. This is perfect.

Probably worth noting OP that you can't catch a train back though due to rail work.

Glad I could help you out! Also wasn't aware of the train line being partially down so i'll add some more info to the description.

  • One way ticket on a boat is not a good thing usually.

    • True… Titanic proved that.
