COTDd deal, when you are posting a deal give some reference/staticice to show us the products are actually cheap (real deal)

Why should the OP give a reference to other prices? We all have the Internet.
If you have a legitimate gripe, then state the case against the deal and not the person.

Had a hard time finding equivalent prices for the 24-piece cutlery set.

Fishpond has 16-piece for $46.87 + Free Shipping, so 24-piece for $50 delivered is pretty good.

  • Yeah - the pasta machine looks best

Stay away from poor quality pasta machines. They are use-once-throw-away. A lot of force is exerted on these things, and if they are not of good quality the metal will simply bend. This one looks like the typical $40 one usually sold at kitchen shops.

    • I have one from Kmart (on special for $10 this week) which has been churning out endless carbs for the past 6 months.

      • Pasta sheets is what kills it. Maybe you got lucky, which is great. Just that a proper pasta machine (like the Atlas ones, which have a long warranty) start at about $140.

I looked this machine up, and it seems like it's a generic one that just gets a name slapped on it.

This one http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Baccarat-Pasta-Machine-R… seemed to have exactly the same pictures.

  • Should I bite on the "Jamie Oliver Stunning 24-Pc Cutlery Set" ?

only if we're all invited to dinner at your place.

  • For the negatives being said about the pasta machine keep in mind that it has a 1 year warranty so if it does fail you should get a replacement.

    • Warranty for manufacturing faults probably. If the whole thing is bent and twisted, they'll probably say it is wear and tear, and that you used it outside its intended purpose. Just guessing.
Not sure if I would want to have that argument with CoTD.

The same pasta machine is currently (catalog ends today) on special at the Good Guys for $29. If that is the only item you want that comes cheaper than getting the COD one shipped.

I got the K-mart el-cheapo and took it back after the first attempt at making pasta. It leaked grease onto the pasta even after an hour of use with throwing away the greasy dough and making fresh dough in between. It also did not cut properly. Even K-Mart put up some arguments before a refund. Beware of trying that with a mail order company.

Then I bought the Mercato at a 30% off sale at Myers. For $95 still a lot more, but wow, it just works. Same dough recipe. No grease on pasta, cutting works every time. Have used it every week since.
