I thought this was obvious ie Learn how to browse, bid, buy and sell online. If you cant do that already then there is no point being on Ozbargain.

My Mum would love this though

    LOL

Good to see council rates being used for the important things

I think this is a great initiative, I suspect it would be taken up by seniors who are just getting used to the net and buying on line.

I hope this training includes some advice on the pitfalls of trading on eBay / PayPal etc.

It shouldn’t cost the rate payer too much.

Money better spent would be basic pc training for the elderly ie word and general usage i used to do this as a volunteer. If you want to do something that makes you feel good workng in IT try it.

  • I live in this Shire…utter crap…when my rates just went from $2000 to $4500…and the valuation didn't change (that will be next year..so am expecting another big rise).
Cannot expect much from "the seller"…

Speaking without the chip on the shoulder - I agree more with Mikinoz…provide generic skills, not something specific like "ebay"…just covering setting up an email address and using that could take an hour! - depending on the target audience. Looks like YaBe training sold the council something palatable. Would love to know just how many will attend this.

Last lot of training through this Shire was on Food Handling…and were telling us that Golden Staph. infection comes from not washing food properly and need to go to the GP to get a short does of antibiotics. Incorrect on so many levels…going to be interesting what they will say here…

Newbie Lesson Number 1) Overseas royalty offering you a 90% cut of their fortune if you just provide your banking details to them for deposit, should be avoided.

Newbie Lesson Number 2) Overseas buyers wanting to pay above your asking price for items you are selling, sight unseen, but demanding PayPal as their only purchase method and for you to ship it to them, should also be avoided.

i hope this training also teaches the importance of communication, honesty and paying on time. and also the pitfalls of their dysfunctional feedback system.
