I just bought this for $35 lol

I'm not angry. I'm just dissapointed

JB are awesome with their 14day price policy, they will refund the difference if you ask.

You don't need to bring in the item, just have the invoice. Maybe it would even work over the phone.

      • Would they do it with a $10 coupon though?

        • If you haven't opened it, you could already return and buy again with coupon.

I doubt they would just let you use coupon after the fact. But just use the coupon next time you need something.

      • Can confirm this, I bought something that was $30 more than the current price. Turn up at the counter and explained, no question asked. It would be refunded to the original payment method or gift card if you prefer.

  • Wonder if this is really GaN.. so many fake chargers claiming to use gan that end up using regular fets

    • +14

belkin at least has some brand recognition, i’d have more faith in it actually being GaN than an ebay/amazon special

      • +5

Yes they have great reputation for being highly expensive and average performance

        • +3

sure but if they straight up lied then they and jb would face consequences

    • -4

I don't think it speaks a dialect of Chinese, could be wrong though

      • +3

I don't think people get that Gan is a Chinese dialect. Joke too subtle.

        • -1

          Joke too stupid

    • +1

GaN for me is more about size …. depends if you are happy to pay the premium

      • This GaN charger is quite big for a 30w. What size are you talking about?

        • Bellini products are never minimalistic, always have extra plastic flares for the “premium” feel

    • There are some tear down videos of belkin gan chargers. Have not seen one for this charger specifically but I don’t see why this wouldn’t be fan when other models are

    • +3

To be honest, as long as it does what says on the box, I'm less fussed about it being GaN or not. As long as it's a size that I want and reliably outputs the power that it claims that it's done it's job.

  • +2

Great deal, I just bought two. Thanks

  • Thanks OP, purchased with perks coupon. Bargain!

  • +2

What's a good USB C to USB C cable to go with this

    • +2

Pretty much anything from a reputable brand.

Baseus, Anker, better-rated items on Amazon, etc, etc.

  • Great deal thanks.

  • +4

Seems it does not support PPS though !

    • will this do fast charging on pixel 6? not sure about PPS
https://www.belkin.com/au/chargers/wall/boost-charge-30w-usb… says p6 is compatible so guessing yes over PD at "full" 23W or whatever

      • +1

        Likely 18W.

Similar to S20FE which is also on the compatibility list. This charger will fast charge that phone at 18W. To get "Super Fast Charging" at 25W you need a PPS enabled charger.

  • Is this same or better as Samsung 25w charger? My phone can charge at a max of 25w so trying to decide between the two. Any thoughts?

    • +3

The charger would need PPS to charge your samsung at 25w.Your phone will only take 18w from this charger as it does not have PPS

      • +2

Thanks techno2000, I will swap my order to the samsung 25w charger in that case, which would be a better buy for an extra $4.

    • +7

the samsung charger is $29 ….add your perk and it’s $19 …..it’s PD 3.0 so PPS ….. pay the extra $5 and you have samsung charger for your samsung phone and it will charge to 25w …… might not be GaN but you won’t notice size difference in the lower wattage chargers as it need usc socket and 240v pins and that very much sets the size in 25w chargers ….can’t make smaller with GaN, GaN gets you size benefits when you start getting into 60w and 100w chargers and people want them small to take with them to charge laptops and stuff when not home.

the deal is the perk coupon rather than this is a bargain charger ……

      • Thank you for this. I'm so behind with all these things, so it was good to have it explained to me!

      • +2

The 25W samsung charger is already small, guess doesn't need to be GaN.

  • +1

    Thanks mate

  • +1

Thanks OP, got one. Although to tell the truth I don't understand why it's so good.

    • +1

      30w rapid charging.
belkin a reputable brand for accessories/chargers.

      • +2

I think it’s more that everyone signed up to the perks but have no idea what to use it on.

  • Is that super fasting charger ?

    • +18

      too bad ramadan just finished

    • It's not

  • Thanks, used my perks coupon :)

  • +1

Finally a reasonably priced GaN charger

  • Is this good enough to charge a Apple MacBook 12"?
The Apple one (30W) is $64 at Amazon.

    • +1

12” also comes with a 30W charger so I’d guess it’ll do the same job. It’ll charge larger macs too but slower.

    • +1

Should be fine. My 60w Apple charger does 1% per minute which is really fast for Mac 13. So half that speed isn't bad at all.

      • Note that if you are using the laptop at the same time it won't be linear, i.e. will be slower than half speed. It could even not charge at all depending on what you are doing.

        • It’s true for Intel. Haven’t noticed much difference in terms of charging speed while on or off for M1 due to their low wattage. I wouldn’t say 50% slower while on. Maybe something like 25%.
I even used 18w charger while on and speed was fairly reasonable.

          • +1

@Mi2: As I said, it depends on what you do. The maximum power consumption of MacBook Air 2020 M1 is 30.3W which is slightly higher than 30W. So if you are doing some CPU heavy stuff your battery will lose charge while plugged in.

      • +1

Double the wattage doesn't mean double the speed.

The device decides how much power it can take and would have a max supported wattage. As per the other response, this will vary depending on the charge state of the battery.

It's pretty safe to use any charger with USB-C as long as the wattage is sufficient. I frequently use my MBPs power brick with my MBA, phone, headphones, earphones, iPad, game controllers, mouse etc.

  • How is this charger for iphone 13pro?

    • +1

Not much difference compared to other 20w chargers in terms of speed.
It's small and has a good price. What else do you need to know?

      • That’s all. Thanks

        • +1

It’ll be useful if you ever decide to get an iPad, but same charge speed when using for an iPhone.

    • +1

iPhone 13 Pro charges at 20w max, iPhone 13 Pro Max caps out at 27w.
Keep in mind this is just short periods of time during charging and not all the time :)

  • Nice, I'm sure it'll come in handy and needed to use that coupon. And the Special gift card works at JB too.

  • Is there a USB-A version too. I don’t have enough double ended c cables just yet

    • Something like that - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-fast-charging-tra… . Will be limited to 15W iirc.

It's worth considering the change to USB-C chargers as they should be more future proof.

      • USB-C for future proofing really comes into it's own with the higher wattages e.g 40W+ because then you can also charge your laptop and they cost more so a 40W charger with 3x USB-A ports is limited to can't do laptops, so that is why I have more USB-C now, happy to charge phone at 20-25W and have USB-A and USB-C cables …… I regard 25W charges throw away, no big deal if lost items and keep it cheap at sub $20, 40W+ chargers are different as they are bit of an investment when you spend $40+ and that's when I make use they are USB-C and PD 3.0.

    • USB-A doesn’t support PD handshake, so it can’t fast charge with many devices.

      • +1

depends what devices, Qualcomm started the fast charge on USB-A because they make phone chips and it's patented so they make money if you buy the chip or license the tech and promoted fast charge before USB-C existed so built it on USB-A …… phone manufacturers didn't like the extra cost so USB-C ….open standard, no license costs, I wouldn't bin my USB-A fast chargers or USB-A to USB-C cables, but I also wouldn't expect more innovation in USB-A port based fast charge technology as USB-C has taken off where Qualcomm left off ….. hence early phones like Huawei doing 60W charge on USB-C when Qualcomm still had 25W on USB-A ….. huawei make their own chips and don't depend on Qualcomm.

how does this one compare $15.99? it has PPS so i think it would be better for samsung phones ref https://www.amazon.com.au/iwoco-Charger-PPS%E3%80%90Support-…

    • +1

      Have you seen the reviews?

[…] used it for my Samsung and iPad Pro. Does not fast charge like advertised.

    • +3

      stick with the trusted brand.

  • usefull purchase to use the Perks coupon for

  • -3

Heymix is a good brand and has PPS for only $16.99 ref https://www.amazon.com.au/HEYMIX-Charger-Compatible-Samsung-…

    • I see a $4 coupon on the product page which makes it even cheaper!

      • Where is the coupon please?

        • It's on the product page. Might be targeted.

    • There's this more versatile one for $40:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09FB2CZCX/ref=ppx_yo_d…

      • +2

A rating of 4 is borderline don't buy. Quite a few issues reported in the reviews.

I don't think this it is worth compromising on chargers, and this one is a safer bet.

    • +11

HEYMIX is a dodgy brand, Belkin isn't.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12105101/redir

      • Happy with my Heymix chargers, they are only 20w but fast enough for my devices

    • heymix fast charges my nokia, put the power meter in-line, have several scattered between work and home and no issues ….. also use on my oppo to do light charges, not a fan of the 60W quick charge.

  • Had been watching this over last month, very good deal when stacked with JB Hi-Fi Perk promo.

There aren't too many reviews of this unit on YouTube, interested to see size comparison with Apple's 20W USB-C charger once I pick mine up.

    • How did you go? Is the charging time better then the original apple charger?

      • +3

Size comparison in link at bottom. It was very very slightly shorter depth (about 2-3mm), so it sits a tiny bit closer the wall. However it is much more bulkier. Also, due to its size and use of only two prongs it wobbles noticeably more than the Apple charger.

In terms of charging speed, I expect it to be very similar for iPhones, but a substantial difference for my MacBook Pro.

Apple rates their 20w USC-C charger to do "up to 50% charge in 30 minutes" for their iPhone 13. Belkin's advertisement the box makes the same claim.

        Link: https://imgur.com/a/WRbTyJH

        • +1

Thank you for the comparison! I was considering the Belkin but it looks bulkier than I thought. I couldn't see any size dimensions listed on the website and the white background does nothing to help compare size. I only have usb A type chargers but they are bulky. I was hoping to find something with a smaller form factor for travel and also update to the newer usb c type.

  • +2

Not a fast charger. No PPS support. This is 30% slower charging than a original Samsung 25W charger.

  • +1

How does this compare with Apple 20w charger. Should i go with this one or the apple charger for an iphone? Would love to hear ozbargainer views.

  • Does it come along with a cable? Can someone confirm who has picked it up?

    • +1

      No cable

    • Nope, you'll need to start investing in cables, probably a few. The cost starts to add up! It's what is holding me back lol

      • Cables aren’t that bad. You can get decent ones for about $10. A bit more if you want USB3.1 gen 2 capability, but for charging cables (USB 2.0 speed and no video), it’s cheap. Just look on Amazon. Or do a price match with an online retailer. IKEA have a 1.5m charging cable for $10.

        • Wouldn't recommend the IKEA one unless it's changed recently. It's one of two USB-C cables that have stopped working. Same issue reported by others in a deal posted a year or two ago.

          • @ihfree: It’s changed recently, but honestly, I’ve been using mine for at least a year now on a regular basis and have no issues. One thing about cables is that they last as long as you look after them. That means coiling them up smoothly and not bending. I don’t use the elastic that they come with.

            • @happychappy1:

One thing about cables is that they last as long as you look after them.

That's certainly the case for many cables of sufficient quality. The only cables I have had issues with are ones where other users have reported issues. Everything else has worked without issues.

        • That's true, I do like this charger, but it is still represents an additional outlay, so it becomes $14.95 +++

  • +1

Sweet I got one, never had issues with Belkin

  • -4

I just got this charger, the performance is atrocious, it is beaten by free samsung charger at less than half the weight. I will upload video review shortly.

Just a warning for now for anyone considering it, DO NOT GET IT.

    • +1

I don't think this supports PPS that's why the samsung charger is faster. Didn't you read the comments…

      • -4

than why the hell is the point of buying this charger? It is expensive, heavy and charges slower than a smaller/lighter charger?

        • +2

Yes because it doesn't have PPS, you need a PPS charger to charge as fast or faster than the Samsung one.

          • -2

@R3XNebular: Again, you didn't answer my question, what is the purpose of this charger then if it can not charge 30w?

            • @canberrascooter: As per website "For powering up at home or on the go, our 30W USB-C GaN Charger provides fast charging for USB-C PD-enabled devices. Charge a MacBook Air from 0–50% in just 70 minutes* or fast charge an iPhone 8 or later from 0–50% in 30 minutes.**"

For other devices it can reach 30w. I know it's frustrating, should be able to charge all devices to their max capacity. I don't know why they've decided different technology for different electronics. Look at my recent comments for all chargers I'm always like "Is this PPS?"…
