becomes hot potato within a few minutes of use..

    • +23

Then cold spaghetti, mashed banana, and inexplicably, back to hot potato again.

    • +35

Yes, have one and I agree - they're fine as a phone charger, but I'm always a bit weary of using them as a laptop charger.

FWIW, I would stay well away from this one, given that the bigger brother is $28 ($40 with 30% off coupon) here: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CRTNQT1V?th=1. I find this version to be much higher quality, and doesn't get "hot" when charging a laptop (just warm). Even if that doesn't matter to you, the extra port for an additional $2 is a no-brainer.

      • +2

        Thanks. Grabbed the bigger one.
Seems like a good one to leave in backpack as a spare. Nice and light and can do laptop and phone in a pinch.

      • I grabbed the 100w version for $39. Perfect for compact Mac charging.

I actually got the Anker based on OZB feedback: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09XTX3GS8

      • +1

39 bucks is a steal, however it is the old model would like to get a 100-120watt in the future

  • +1

    Boom. Here comes the boom

    • They were going to call it “nova” until someone told them what it meant.

      • +1

        new?

        • the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star

  • How is the coil whine?

    • +1

No coil whine in my experience (I own the RG67 and RG68). But I wouldn't recommend this RG67 since it thermally throttles after about half an hour of use, rendering the exercise pointless — it's no good if you want to use it to power a laptop, for example.

  • +9

I have one of these and although your mileage may vary, the USB C ports stopped working EVEN THOUGH I only used one port at a time and have my fast charging option turned off in my phone settings, and have a USB C meter reading 9W only. NO to NOVOO.

    • +6

You obviously got a lemon, which can happen with any brand. You should return it if it's still under warranty. Why the neg?

      • That's how votes work. Negs is a function of lemons/bad experiences, which in turn gives useful feedback.

        • That's how votes work.

No, that's how comments work. By your logic every deal should have lots of negs because every product may fail within the warranty period (or later) and get replaced.

If the seller refused to repair/replace it, then it's a different story, but I don't see any indication of that here.

          • @bio: If every 2nd device was faulty but subsequently fixed under warranty I'd still want to know and avoid the product. It would be misleading if it received only positive reviews (comments/negs whatever you want to call it) in this scenario due to your logic.

Mrs has been using this for almost a year to charge her laptop every other day.

So far can't fault it, yes it does get hot when charging the laptop, but not scorching hot. It likely depends on the draw.

Seems like you're definitely better off getting the larger one for $28 as suggested above by p1 ama

What's the point of having a 100w charging cable matched with a charger that can't charge that high?
May be a noob question but i see this kinda thing often.

    • +12

What cable do you want? 67w cable? And they include a 40w charging cable with their 40w charger? More effective to mass produce 100w cables and just ship it with any charger than make specific wattage cable.

    • +2

Nobody makes a 67W charging cable, so you go for the next highest standard.

    • +6

      There are 3 main ones, 60w, 100w and 240w.
60w has no chip and is limited to 20v 3a, 100w has cjip which ups it to 5a and 240w has chip which ups voltage to 28v.

I have exactly the same model.

I use this as my secondary charger during travelling. Insanely lightweight. That's the best attribute about this charger - power/weight ratio is the best among chargers I have but this might not be suitable as a daily driver.

I carry this one, a 100w charger from a reputable brand that's about 4x the weight of this on trips. This can fast charge my phone or other accessories while the bigger one can fast charge my power bank @100w.

Most electronic components are rated to very high temperatures. As long as it self throttles, I'm fine with this.

Will buy again as a travel charger if the current one stops working.

  • +2

Yep I use this as my work charger for laptop. Great and small in the backpack. Been awesome for over a year.

  • +7

As others have said, DO NOT buy this RG67 model, it thermally throttles if you're trying to use it at its max wattage. Go for the slightly bigger RG68 model instead, which can currently be had for $28 (and occasionally dips down to around $26.xx):
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/novoo-rg68

Prong outlines the differences in his deal, including a full tech review and test:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/863878

This comes around often enough that it should be OzBargain lore by now.

I am also a bit skeptical of the new compact RG100 model, it looks too small to be able to thermally handle the load properly. Will wait for Prong or someone else knowledgeable to do a full tech review for it.

Wow I want that little power tester kit he had, looks coool and a good way to test and toss some of the older chargers hahah

      • Yeah, me too. Price of $31.23 delivered for me on Aliexpress.

    • +1

      Thanks, took your advice.

  • +3

Have 2 of these for a long while and the 100w one too just recently, all fantastic, do get warm but not hot, did notice the cable that came with the 100w much more inflexible, still very happy, also 67w charger cables verified at 100w on a RC charger, great value all round

  • +2

I have several RG67 and RG68. I can't fault them with a mix of Apple, Android phones and various laptops.

  • Anyone seen similar for VOOC that comes with a compatible cable?

  • +5

I have used one of these for almost a year and it's given no issues in that time, powering a lenovo laptop in place of its OEM 65W charger.

Just take note that the input voltage only suits our local 240V and it does not accept a lower ~100V input voltage if you planned to use
this with an adaptor, say on a Japan holiday for example.

    • Could you confirm it cannot be used in 100V? I plan to take it to Canada for a tour soon.
If not which one is better?
      Thank you.

  • Is there a simple way to work out what is right for you between 67W and 100W? E.g. if I want to charge my Surface Pro laptop + Google Pixel phone at same time = 60W + 15W = 75W total required? (I'm basing 60W and 15W on the output of those two devices' chargers).

    • Alternatively, something like this travel adaptor could be good if one travels a lot… Although it's unclear if this one supports charging multiple devices at once.

  • +1

I got one of these for my rog ally

It gets too hot and often stops charging for a second or two only lets me use 25w turbo

    Get a ugreen

If one USB-C port is enough for your purposes, walk into Officeworks and try this 65W GaN charger with 2m cable for $25. Mine works fine.
