No credit check, but payment method is direct debit via credit card only.

  • Been using these guys for a few years no worries, gaming, downloading etc speeds are what they advertise. Also have my mobile bundled with them for $10 off per month.

  • what if we signed up a few days before may :(

  • If I use these guys for my mobile, will I get a bonus if I switch to Telstra in 3 months (those $400 in jb vouchers if signing up for 12 month deals)

  • Seeing a lot of nbn plan switching currently. Have question on switching.

I am currently with Belong and have their NBN modem. If I switch to Mate, do I need to buy their modem or log into the Belong modem and update username password IP details etc?

    Thank you for any insight.

    • The Belong modem should work. You would need to log into it and update the PPPoE username and password.

We don't have a guide specific for Belong modems, but you can see some examples of what you would need to do in our modem setup guides.

  • all we need now is a lgbtqia+ one called lesbefriends

    • +5

      was that a tumbleweed ?

      • -2

no, pretty sure it was a bigot.

  • Dammit Mate, I just joined joined a week ago. Any chance I could get this applied for my next bill? Had the lady on chat mentioned about this, I would've waited!

  • Is Mate and More similar in terms of reliability and service?

  • Current members?

    • +1

All current customers are eligible if they add a new nbn service.

      • So if we change our current NBN plan to a different one we'll get the $100 bonus?

        • +1

No, changing a plan is not a new nbn service. If you add an additional service or move address and connect a new service, for example, you would be eligible.

          • @rfc850: Add additional service.. like a sim card?

            • @RenVilo: nbn service only.

              • -2

@rfc850: Can we cancel, move to a different provider then move back?
Seems a bit rough to not include current members in the deal.

                • +2

@Manche: Maybe your not familiar with how marketing works?

  • +4

Have also had plenty of issues with MATE with nbn FTTP - would always get buffering issues on Twitch/Youtube Live from 3pm till 10pm at night. Contacted them and they said it was nothing on their end so in the end I went back to Superloop and all the buffering issues were gone.

Probably something to do with the Vocus end since I believe MATE didn't have their own CVCs at the time - but this also means they have no control over this so your issues may not get fixed if you run into them.

    • +2

Getting similar issuss on Netflix and YouTube within that period. Funny thing is fast.com which I believe runs on Netflix servers report 4.5Mbps while speedtest.net reports around 95Mbps. I mean, what's with that Mate?

      • +1

Probably means there's throttling or priority assigned to speedtesting sites.

    • +1

Same here buffering issues with youtube/netflix. Switched to AussieBB and speed issues all gone. YMMV

  • Perfect timing, spintel price just went up

  • I have been with MATE for the last 18 months and am very happy with the service. The speed is always near max even during peak hours (100/20). I have a bundle with them which includes a mobile plan and voip home phone. I get a $10 discount per month plus a free bonus TIDAL music streaming service. How good is that?

  • +3

If you sign up via referral, promo code still valid ?

    • +1

Promo code and referral code are entered in 2 different sections so I assume so. But would be good for someone from Mate to confirm. I signed up anyway just now using both.

  • Good deal because it's a wonderful ISP, been with them 2 years and no complaints ( would probably not think so highly of them had I not come from Belong.)

  • Would mates recommend mates to get mate for mates of mates?

  • I get error "Invalid Code" when using May100

    • Try again, definitely working.

  • I signed up a week ago but didn’t use this code. I’m imagining I don’t qualify :(

  • Running decent gear . Positive that mate has slowed down in last maybe 3 months even RJed - TV is not buffering tho .
Had my ,pretty basic,TP LINK v1200 warranty replaced recently without any improvement. Also found via temp gun that these modems are running between 42 to 48° , with air-conditioning running , so I switch off when unattended with their permission to do so( says can reduce lifespan) - scared of a fire . Need to find a decent asus modem to test - need a backup anyway - any suggestions please ? Support , not bad but quick and not 100% upfront , has blamed the nbn but positive it was a lot snappier before . Been very content with mate and fees but will change and pay more if need .

What's the IP situation? Static? cgnat?

    • +1

You can request static for free. Not sure about cgnat.

    • +2

MATE give everyone a static IP by default. CG-NAT is not used.

    • +2

Static IP included. We don't use CG-NAT.

  • Been with these guys for 3 years doing around 1.5tb a month. They are excellent. Had an outage for like 4 days on my area and they even refunded me for this time. Watch netflix play warzone and kid is non stop on either gaming or streaming. Can highly recommend them.

    • -7

Do you think your kid doing non stop gaming and streaming is a good idea?

      • +5

Do you think that’s your position to judge?

        • -5

Well the poor fella may have no idea that too much screen time can cause attention problems, anxiety, and depression in kids. Not to mention obesity and other health issues. So no, I wouldn’t say I’m judging if my comment brings awareness to someone else.

      • +4

Well.. he goes to school, he playes with me, his sister and we have movie nights etc. But he does spend a lot of time in front of his pc. He is 10 and has created hos own games in Roblox. His animation skills are insane etc. He playes with his friends and they have a lot of laughs. He is trying to grow is youtube channel and learning the marketing aspect of this.

I was about his age when i started spending the same amount of time in front of a computer.. of course without internet access and online gaming with friends etc. So i was a lot more isolated in this aspect. That said, i do not have depression, have no anxiety except for the fear of heights lol, i can talk to people, i have a very good job as a senior consultant earning a good package etc.

So, no, if my kid can do what he is doing at his age and love doing it, learning useful things that he can use, not crap like they learn in school that is outdated. Then yes, happy for my kid to learn from sitting in front of his pc. But tx for the concern 😆

  • lol damn, I activated my Mate nbn 3 days ago

    • Contact them and I’m sure they’ll apply it

      • Unfortunately, live chat said the promo starts today so they can't apply it for me

        • Tell them you're going to Aussie Broadband and how disappointed you are. I am sure they'll be able to help you out.

  • +1

Disappointed in this promo. Joined mate a while ago because they said they offered low rates all the time without all the preferential treatment for new comers and now I'm seeing preferential treatment being applied.

    • All current customers are eligible if they add a new nbn service.

      • So add a second nbn service to my property?

        • Yes, or a service at a different property.

          • +3

@rfc850: What does adding a second NBN service to the same property even mean?

  • I’ve been a mate customer for a couple of years. Couldn’t speak more highly of them. I game and have no issues with ping or loss of speed.

  • Incomplete or Invalid Promo Code Please Call 131413

Thanks for posting, but when this issue got fixed, would you please let us know?

    • Promo code is definitely working, can you try again?

  • Is there any way to get 1 month free? Like sign up for 250 plan, pay them, then swtich away and ask the credit that comes 28day later to be refunded back?

    • +1

The Promotional Credit is not redeemable for cash, transferable, refundable, or convertible into any other form of property.

  • +1

Will this work with cashrewards or shopback?

  • Can I cancel my current Mate service and sign up again?

    • No, it's only applicable to new services.

      • isn't that mean you add new service on port-2 then cancel the old service on port-1 will do….

  • Hi rep, is there a minimum period an existing customer need to be our of your service to be eligible?

So for example, if one churns out to Launtel for 5 days and then churns back to Mate, does it classify as a new service?

    • Yes, it's 90 days.

  • Thanks op my Aussie discount ends soon. Any plans for 4g backup?

  • Tempting, thanks.

  • +1

Will the Telstra smart modem work with this service?

  • +2

I have put my connection date in June, but I received the invoice saying payment for period from todays date to next month. How does this work?

    • +1
      • Thanks so this means, in an 'unfortunate' situation if I am not satisfied with the service I will get a full refund of any advance that I have paid + my monthly subscription fee?

  • I'm getting

there seems to have been an error with your payment:
    Failed to fetch

    • There are no issues reported with our payment gateway, if you're having issues, it would be best to call our sales team on 13 14 13.

  • has any one chosen a future connection date in June and not been disconnected and invoiced early? I m afraid they might disconnect me from my current ISP early and charge me from the date of my order perhaps better to call up to place the order but then ill missed out on the shopback cashback?

    • Same here. The invoice starts from today but my proposed start date is end of the month. How will this work?

  • Sorry mate but im still paying $50 for 25/25 w/ Superloop!

Can I dip after 5-6 months and churn back to superloop?

  • -1

That means you will have to use 2 months' in order to use the credit, which ended up paying $40 for 2 months if 50/20

    • You also have to pay for the first month first.

      • oh, got you meant. We will need to stay for 3 months :( $107 for 3 months.

        • +1

That’s true unfortunately. Personally I think these constraints make this deal unworthy.

  • +1

Was with mate 3 years ago and had consistent buffering, packet loss, online games were never playable every night during peak times. Raised concerns with tech support and ran some trace routes and pings only to them blame the game servers for the poor connection. I told them it's pretty obvious there's congestion on their network causing these issues but they maintain their story.

Ditched mate for Aussie BB and then now on superloop. The few times I've had to call customer service for an issue both ISPs have been able to talk me through addressing the issue and any questions I had.

Upvoted all comments about the poor quality of service during peak times. Avoid Mate at all costs if you want to use internet during peak times.

  • Been a while since I churned. How long before your current provider's bill due date do you put in the application?

  • I had mate for a couple months and it was so so slow during peak times had to churn, off peak was just ok.

I was on their 100/20 plan and it was slower during peak time then my previous belong 20/10 plan. I logged multiple tickets and all with resolution as was "within specs". They did prioritise traffic to speedtest.net (very dodgy should be reported to TIO ) but real world test were very poor, e.g. other speed test sites, super slow downloads from PSN and breaking up streaming services.

I was considering switching over even prior to this deal but all these negative experiences are turning me off.
What connection are people on that have slow speeds and dropouts?

I'm on FTTP in a new apartment building and never have any issues with Optus. I don't want to waste my time switching just to have issues and frustration.

    • +1

I have HFC on the 250/25 plan and experienced extreme packet loss and buffering during peak times every day. My boyfriend has FTTP on the 250/25 and experiences the same network issues as I. He is still with Mate until the end of the month, but I dipped early because it was unbearable with 5 power users in my household. He contacted the support team, and they keep delaying the fix date so he will be leaving after the billing cycle ends.

  • I signed up back to mates like a week ago after being with more for 6 months. Any possibility I could get the credit ?

    • Just got off a call with mate Support. Disconnect and reconnect on the same day with the code to get the credit.

  • Is there a difference between “Telstra” and “Wholesale Telstra” in terms of network coverage/support?

  • $165 for modem? Can I use my existing TPG modem?

  • Can't get the sign up form to load.

  • +1

No idea wtf happened. My internet died out this morning and been spending over an hour with support on chat and 30min holding on the phone. Service was good but seems they are getting more people and can't handle it. PS: If you ever speak to Mandy (if that is her name) from support.. Rather burn your computer. It will be more useful than wasting your time talking to her/him/it

    • +1

Did you get a new connection with this deal? or were you previously on mate?

I got a new connection and have the same issue. Got disconnected in the morning. Have been on a call for an hour. TPLink modem was reset all correct details were entered still not working.

Tech has no idea what is wrong. Raised an issue with the fault team and now waiting.

Do let me know if it works for you.

      • Spoke to someone on the phone as well. They raised a ticket with NBN… It's not a DSL issue its an account issue. Something is screwed up on their side and they don't want to own up to it (my 2c anyway…)

I've requested an account with Republic to see if that resolves the issue and if my ping is better when playing games with people from South Africa haha.. Doubt it will be but have nothing to lose. They provide a 30 day money back so… Will let you know when I hear anything from them. Please do the same.

        • Great.. Did you get a new connection with this deal? or were you previously on mate?

          • @karansuper: I have been with Mate for over 3 years. But reading comments here I was wondering if my ping could be better and I noticed the 30day money back and Gamer Pro (I think this is more marketing) but decided to give it a go. Republic has a 6 months $10 discount and the prices are the same it seems so decided to give it a go. Now just waiting for the login details.

          • @karansuper: Ok, so I got feedback from the escalated ticket. The reason I have no internet is that I want to move to MyRepublic. Back where I'm from you can have a million ISP accounts as it doesn't get locked to anything but seems different here. They use your MAC and pin your account on that. When you move to a new ISP then they deactivate your MAC and the new ISP enables it. So basically 1 ISP takes ownership of your service.

but MyRepublic wants to now send someone out to my house to install n NBN box (I Have FTTN) and this can take several days. They already activated it so they took ownership meaning Mates can no longer assist. I am going to cancel with myRepublic and get Mates to take ownership again. What a $*#&up

            • @RenVilo: Sounds crazy that they would let you have no internet for days. Anyways, I just migrated to mates. So, mine is a different issue.

  • been with mates for ages, is there any bonus for existing members?
