    Seems to be no stock?

  • estimated delivery in June?

    • Must be different for other states, shows 20th may for me.

  • Nice Heater. Bought it for $89 last year in Clearance.

    • Costco? i got my first for that price delivered.

  • "Oil-Free" means these heat up the air directly? causing dry air?

    No, means no oil.

  • Not quite sure why you'd want an oil free heater? Traditionally, oil heaters are designed to be a slower heat up, slower cool down, nice and quiet… Nice for radiant heat in a room, as opposed to a cheapo fan heater, which work better as a fast heat.

This seems to be a cheapo fan heater, noisy.

    Happy to be corrected.

All plug in heaters cost the same to run. Yes these column heaters are more pleasant as they are silent and not blowing air around. But they aren't any more efficient than an oil heater.

Oil vs oil free, doesn't mean it's a fan heater, just means instead of oil, it's another fluid inside. I don't know what's the benefit, maybe some environmental factor??

Some oil heaters like this one have a fan in built to help them move warmer air around a room - possibly to speed up initially room heating time, then turn it off to then rely on convection?

  • It just means instead of oil inside it (to transfer the heat) it uses some other fluid. Not sure of what the benefit of that is vs oil tbh.

In saying that, these plug in heaters are pretty much as efficient (inefficient) as each other. They convert electricity into heat - 1 unit of electricity = 1 unit of heat. Whether that be a fan heater, column heater, oil heater, etc.

Oil heaters are no more efficient than a fan heater. They have benefits such as being silent, but downsides such as warm up time. There's no extra free heat with these - they simply warm oil up, which the oil then warms up the fins. Even if they stay warm after turning off, that's just the time delay of oil cooling down, given when you turn them on there's a time delay before the heater begins to get warm.

If you can afford it or have the ability to, a reverse cycle split system will cost 4-5 times LESS to run than these plug in heaters. Yes there is more upfront cost, but they will pay themselves off quite quickly if you use heating a fair bit (ie in cooler areas). For example, as these plug in heaters convert 1 unit of electricity into 1 unit of heat, a reverse split system these days are quite efficient and can convert 1 unit of electricity into 4 or 5 units of heat.

These plug in heaters have their place (ie quick short term heating), but they are general cheap to buy, but cost a fortune to run.

These do not have any kind of liquid.

Oil free allows it to heat up quite a bit faster than regular oil heaters but also means it cools down faster.

      • So really just turns it into a basic convection heater like this:

        https://www.kmart.com.au/product/convection-heater-with-time…?

It's still a bit marketing wank - heat up faster yes might be good, but you're not getting anything more efficient. Better if you want quick fast heating though, similar to fan heater.

Oil tends to smooth the heating as the oil remains a constant temp. To that end I'm just guessing this heater as it cycles on and off may hear more expansion and contraction noises of the metal.

        • You'd have to ask dimplex idk how it works exactly.

I can say that I don't hear any noise from it from expansion or contraction other than the initial start up and when it turns off.

  • This looks like a good deal, good presentation too.
My 15 year old Abode from BigW is still working, the timer has loud ticker noise and have to manually adjust it every 2-3days, a part from that it’s solid as a brick lol.
