I wanted to test if I had any AirTags following me but on an Android phone. The app has continuous background checking (not sure how that'll impact battery life). On the train it detected a lot of devices nearby, AirTags, Apple Products, Non-Apple products. It was good to see what was around me. It says it can trigger the AirTag to start chirping too but haven't tested that.

Its automatic on iOS if you have find my turned on.
There is so much scope this can be misused. I would just make all nearby airtags to ring.
Also I don't want apple tracking me too. Google is doing a good enough job for the CIAcontinuous background checking will definitely drain the battery fast
I have the app "air guard" which I think always free. Unsure on how well it works but it did alert me to my tiles on my scooter/keys/wallet when I did manual scan.
I'll have a look to see how this one is so that ks for heads up./Edit - the FAQ says only airtags at the moment but will add others in future.
Wow. Those reviews are not glowing recommendations to get this app.
The Apple version of this app is always free and seems to be about the same level of "it doesnt work for me" in the reviews.
Apparently the better option, that is also free, is AirGuard as that gets a much better rating from its users.
I don't quite understand how these 'track AirTag' apps are supposed to work. AirTags don't have a persistent ID, so when they claim "If a tracker is detected at least 3 times and the locations have changed (to make sure its not your neighbour) the app sends you a notification.", I guess they try and poll quicker than the rotation interval of an AirTag, which wouldn't be super reliable.
Why would an airtag be tracking you
Should turn your Bluetooth on whilst on the train, it will blow your mind how there are a lot of devices around, ha.Wouldn't be worth the battery drain, even Bluetooth I only turn on when needed
Is there an equivalent on iOS?
