I just bought and installed the cheapest bidet from Bunnings. Still getting used to it, but it's the business at the end of your business. It was $25 plus another $20ish for fitting (T junction, 2 nipples and a hose). This looks like $20 all up.
This is just a cold water sprayer that fits under the seat. Seems to have all the fittings and Australian reviews say easy to install but sometimes the hose is a bit short. Doesn't look like this includes the backflow valve (the Bunnings one did, valve price $15 at Bunnings).
Fitting was easy (within personal limitations) - tap at outlet off, unscrew hose, add t, add nipples, screw on two hoses, tighten after some dripping, tighten a bit more after damp patches appear, done.
This one has a double sprayer for all genders (mine's a single shot to the date). When you turn it off, it trickles water down the spray stem to wash it off.
Instead of sticky smears, you'll have to clean up some slightly discoloured water and dry your behind. You might get some cold water under your balls. That can be a good thing.
50% off voucher at checkout. The price appears excellent if you are curious.

+1 for it being detailed and descriptive ;)

    Heh heh nipples.

    • +6

I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?

    • +1

      My favourite word…..areolas

      • +1

Wasn’t there a Leonard Cohen song about it? Something like..

And from your lips she drew the Areolaaaa
        Areola, Areola
        Areola, Areeooooooooooooooooooooolaaaa

  • +1

Awesome. Just what I need with a non working right hand

  • +1

This is a good buy as these used to be cheap on Ebay but not anymore….

  • +14

Honestly? Maybe it's coming from growing up/living in an SE Asian household, but I prefer the hand held ones on the end of a flexible hose. Much easier to use and control, particularly if you get one with a trigger head, you can manually control where it fires (heh) and how high a pressure you want. Plus as an added bonus you can use it for cleaning the toilet.

By all means, get one of these if you prefer this style, not gonna neg this or suggest you not get one, but if you are interested in a simple easy bidet, check out something like this: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B08CC254TW?ref=ppx_pt2_mob…

    • We bought this when we were doing our bathroom renovations..

ABS Shower Head Handheld Douche… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08LSRHKXG

Except it came in black which is way nicer looking than chrome.

I have to agree with the cleaning the toilet bit… So much nicer than using a brush…

      • Yeah, there's a lot of different kinds that all serve the same function. I do prefer the one I linked as its entirely stainless steel rather than ABS plastic, but there's nothing wrong with that one.

      • Hehe he said douche

    • Trigger head seems high pressure? The back splash….

      • It can be, but you can very easily control the pressure by how hard you press the trigger, and you can also set a limit with the tap on the plumbing fitting

        • +1

Limit with tap seems a must!

          • +1

@donkeydoc: Possibly, I find a higher pressure works quite well, and once you learn how the trigger functions it's easy to get exactly what you want for any given situation, just like a garden hose trigger. It's not just on/off

Although that's the beauty of the hand held ones, you have all those options to suit anyone who wants to use it.

      • Following 🙄

      • The splash up your back more like.

    • Do you need a backflow preventer for this one.

    • I agree. Bum guns in Asia are awesome!

    • Do you get wall mount holder as well or just the one to hang on the water tank?
And how is the quality of it?

    • +1

I'm the other way around. Had the hand held before but dislike needing to "squeeze" between your legs holding the hose to get behind there.

This one is more static and the spray area can be adjust so it hits you right where it needs to be.

  • +5

Loo paper seems to get the job done for this pale rider. Maybe it’s diet related.

    • +8

Have you ever tried getting peanut butter out of shagpile carpet using only a piece of dry paper?

      • +1

        LOL!

  • -2

    Too much information

  • +3

This seems fairly good, however I find the Water Flossers to be very effective……
…..with the bonuses of being able to get aim and angles perfected and being able to travel anywhere with one.

Just need to be careful labelling it.

    • Put a wee bit of food dye in the water of the one you use for the wrong end, so you can't mix them up

    • +1
    • Nice not bad did not know these existed I guess you just have to not be lazy since you have to fill them up with water I suppose.

What are the price of one of these usually?

  • +4

For people DIYing this, please install a backflow preventer so you don't get any backflow into the mains..

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-chrome-backflow-prevente…

    • +2

Can you get backflow from pressurised line? :/

      • +1

You wouldn't get much, but I'm sure some contaminants would mix in, think like backwash into a water bottle.

        • +1

How do the contaminants make it past the closed valve in the handle?

          • +1

@eug: The closed valves wouldn't be an issue unless the valve fails / passes. All about probability/likelihood really, but I wouldn't want any chance of it contaminating mains tbh.

            https://pureplumbingpros.com.au/plumber/information/toilet-b…

I believe these are required by regulation as well. Plumbers wouldn't install them without a backflow preventer.

  • I’m not sure who to believe but a local plumber will tell you a bidet is not safe to install because of back siphonage. Been meaning to install one too

    • See my link above, that should stop that from happening. The bidet sellers don't tell you this though.

    • It is absolutely safe. Bidet's is a common thing in many countries around the world. Just buy one with a fitted backflow preventer.

  • Been a while since a heated bidet or smart toilet seat deal. Anyone have their one break on that 18-24 month mark, or whatever it was?

    • Mine has lasted for years. But I only have a simple one like this. It's basically hose that fits into the toilet.

  • +1

Too much info. That said, get a full bidet they are great.

  • -1

Do get this if you use rain water tank at home.

    • +1

Yes, wash your bum with rain water mixed with bird poop

  • Bidets are separate fixtures typically installed next to the toilet, with a standard faucet; washlets are seats that fit on top of a toilet bowl and often have several cleaning options and other features

  • Maybe a dumb question, but you still need to wipe dry your area, right? Are you guys still using TP then?

    • It's a good question. With TP the way it is these days I'm sure you'll end up with a stack of little white bits stuck to your butt.

      • +1

So are people using this + a towell?

        • Zero tissue issues with who gives a crap premium.

        • Yes, and soap too

    • +2

Wipe with TP, use bidet, then use TP to further clean and dry.

    • No need for toilet paper. I haven't bought it for 7-8 years. I just use the bum gun to spray my bumhole clean and then pull up my undies which soaks up any small bits of water

      • +2

        Wet bum

      • Good to know. I use to thought fire pit should be a bundle with this.

      • you probably shouldn't wear white undies..

    • Hair dryer?

      • +1

        Some bidets come with dryers

    • Hypothetically you could have a dedicated towel for this purpose.. think jumping in the shower after a poo then just drying down the normal way.

Maybe just label it or keep it somewhere where you know not to use it for your hands or face.

    • nope don't need to. Just sit there for 10 seconds and roll your pants up. You will be fine.

  • Can't seem to see the 50% discount/coupon at checkout. Can anyone confirm if this has expired? Thanks

  • How does the price come to $20? Showing $39 for me.

  • No 50% off voucher

  • -5

    Showing $39.99 for me.

    • Not a fair neg. Amazon price algorithm expired/changed the price from $20 back to $39.99. It was definitely $20 at time of deal being posted.

  • +1

lucky it is basic ….. acidic would have destroyed everything down there

      • +1

        Underrated joke.

  • +9

    No, Do not touch.

I purchased something similar 4 years ago,

That very same white tube with the black fitting blew off and flooded my ensuite, master bedroom and hallway. $1100 later and the bullshit. Dont do it,
Its Not a WaterMark product and should be illegal. Was not covered by insurance because its not a Watermark Australian standard product.

The seller at the time was "kind" enough to give me a refund when i provided photos of the damage..

    • +3

Agree, I believe they are illegal too. No WaterMark certification mentioned plus it does not appear to come with a back-flow protector (look at the instructions). This could result in faecal contamination of drinking water supply and even neighbouring water supplies.
      https://www.productsafety.gov.au/news/covid-19-supplying-and…
      https://whywait.com.au/it-is-illegal-to-install-a-douche-spr…
This should not be an Australian deal.

    • +2

Both these comments need to be a sticky WARNING to any of these deals… 100% correct.
Your insurer will not pay out for any water damage caused for these exact reasons.

You'd be mad to install this. Thousands of dollars (and headache) fixing the damage it could cause.

  • +2

Can they put one at Engadine Maccas

  • Should you be turning off the valve at the end of using it? Also goes for the hand held ones. I've heard that these bidets are not meant to hold pressure. Heard some people had their houses flooded because the hand held bidet failed.

    • +2

Should you be turning off the valve at the end of using it?

With the handheld ones, yes. They usually come with a diverter valve; in one position water will flow to your tank, in the other position water will flow to the bidet. You're meant to switch to the bidet when you use it, then switch it back to the tank when you're done. That way you will not have to worry about burst hoses and flooding as there is no constant pressure.

One could argue that when used like that, the only way for backflow to occur is if you held the nozzle open with your hand and you dipped it in raw sewage while holding the nozzle open while your neighbour's house is on fire and firefighters are drawing water from a hydrant or some other low-pressure condition happens at that very moment.

That said, a backflow preventer is only $15 at Bunnings so you might as well install it too.

  • Any pressure washer deals lately?

  • This is useful. But nothing beats a full Japanese bidet system. Washes warm or cold, warm seat, air-jet dries your bum, lots of settings to suit your bumhole & position, and some even have audio that plays calming audio to drown out the plonking sound of your torpedoes. 😂🤣🤭🙊
