    Have one and it works great, just don't use these on expensive knives as it cuts away the steel.

    • Does it really work on serrated knives?

      • I've never really had to sharpen serrated knives so not sure on that one sorry. But as it says on bread knives or ones with larger teeth /gaps between the teeth it should be fine.

      • It works pretty well on serrated surprisingly.

            • @cheaponos: Yeah everyone that sends them to a pro always tells me that's the way to do it. Seems well worth it.

            • @cheaponos: There are some good sharpeners out there but they are pretty expensive. Worth it in the long run though I think.

            • @cheaponos: Does sending it to a pro cost 20% cost of buying a knife? If yes, I dont mind the the sharpner eating into some steel. Unless there is something I need to worry about?

            @pichxlonco: Some big name brands like shun offer free life time sharpening you just have to send them back. Other than that get some good whetstones Shapton and seuhirocome mind as good choices. a 400-600 grit is good for a very blunt knife. But in most cases a 1000grit is good enough to restore a blunt blade and a 4000+ is enough to finish with.

              @Kiato: Yeah, this is a joke though.
              I got a Wusthof a few years ago, with 'free lifetime sharpening', appealing with the crowed 5km up the road. 12 months later, I think about a first sharpen, find they've changed supplier from 5km up the road, to one over east (it was in WA).
              But all that aside… Shipping in Australia is just too shit for this to be a sell. If you want to pay $25 each way for your knife, and be without it for 3-4 weeks, then good on you. An annual knife sharpen, $50 and you essentially only have your knife 11/12ths of the year. Joke. I mean, I'm rounding up but it's just a fluff part of the marketing for 99% of use cases (IMO).

              • @nzcoops: I actually send my shuns back every year ( divide the sets so I use the others while one full set is away so essentially I send two shipments back). They charge for shipping there which is about 15$ and free shipping back. Small price to pay to have them restored to almost as new condition in terms of edge and sharpness and they give them a polish while they are at it.

      • After trying a few of these gimmick knives sharpeners I got myself a ruixen pro jig from eBay. It's been able to put a fantastic edge on all of my knives.

      That's how sharpening works. I agree I wouldn't use this on anything expensive unless you were certain that 20deg was correct bevel for that knife. I also can't see how this would work with serrated knives, I think it'd destroy the serrations.

        It's not the angle accuracy that's a concern with this. This thing actually grinds the F out of your knife. Does what it says and sharpens it but takes a toll on your knifes longevity/quality. (source - i have both this and a whetstone)

          Probably because the knives you have aren't already sharpened at 20deg.

          • @apsilon: Or because you just need a hone at a high grit, not cutting the crap out of it as you would with this if you have dings etc to work out.

            • @Abaddon: Possibly but if this is 20deg as claimed and you're sharpening something with a 30deg edge it's going to need to remove a lot of steel to reprofile down to 20. Few knives will come with a 20deg edge from the factory. Most kitchen knives will be closer to 30 deg. Fixed angle sharpeners rarely works well.

      • actually it rips the steel off the edge. This is way different to sharpening which removes steel via abrasion - the degree of abrasion depends on how fine the sharpening media is.

    • I agree with it cutting away the steel. I use one of these on my old crappy knives and it does a great job. Won't put my Global knives near it

      • I used these on my globals.

        After many, many years it will change the shape of a knife, but knives are meant to be used and global knives are replaceable enough that 10-20 years is fine usage imho.

        Same crap design that would destroy the edge. Out of the branded ones only Global ones look somewhat decent, but have not used it personally

          It has over fifteen thousand reviews, and 84% of them are 4 or 5 star. It's clearly not a crap design - those people are all using it successfully 🤷🏼‍♂️

          A quick glance at the 1 star reviews, and they're mostly complaining that it doesn't sharpen scissors even though it claims to… Don't buy if you want it for this purpose !

    Even at it's normal price of $26, it's amazing, and the best knife sharpener I have used.

      This is what I got too and am happy with it. I'm never going to learn how to sharpen knives manually and IMHO this gets them sharp "enough".

      Leatherman will be around 30deg edge so this won't work well. Basic Lansky kit will be around $60 and do kitchen and pocket knives fairly well and you can expand the kit if you want with other grits and types of hones.

    • I've had these (diff brand same product) for like 10 years and have bought them for many, many happy people.

      I feel like people are too precious about their knives, you pick up your knife and run it three times through the sharpener, wash and it's awesome cutting experience.

      You could even turn a butter knife into something that'll cut ribbons on a light touch.

    You spend good money on good knives which should last a lifetime if looked after.

    (Sharpen with a stone, always hand wash, never put in dishwasher, never cut on hard surfaces like stone always use a chopping board)

      Why ?

      One of my friends uses one like this on his Global knives, and it works just fine. Yes it removes some material … after which the knife is sharp, and works just fine. What's the problem 🤷🏼‍♂️

      • If ur happy to wear down your knives quicker than normal, sure go ahead

        Theres a reason whetstones and these other sharpeners exist. One is user friendly and quick but wears out your knives quicker. The other is slow and precise, but will prolong the life of the knife.
