Google Pixel 6 128GB $799 Outright Delivered @ Telstra (Telstra ID Required)

1820

Google Pixel 6 128GB has had price drop at Telstra, now $799 Delivered. Just don't add a plan when asked. Try getting Officeworks to beat it too, should bring it down to $759.

Not as cheap as JB deal when it was $699 with trade in - but you dont have to fart-arse around with silly trade ins and bonuses, and its local stock so also dont have to worry about grey imports or buying from Kogan.

"but you dont have to fart-arse around with silly trade ins and bonuses …"

    It's a very simple and quick process with JB's trade-in program .
    1. go to JB website and trade-in phone to get trade-in voucher and bonus
2, go to JB and buy phone immediately
    3. post phone in 7 days,

    • any phone ? or newish phone

    • +28

Might not be that hard but you still need a relatively new phone to trade in. I just wish they would offer phones at decent prices so people don't have to do stupid tradeins ie Samsung

      • +3

True .. works best for phones with a litte damage and 2 to 3 yrs old ..

        eg cracked up S20+ .. $20 trade-in plus $300 voucher = good deal
eg galaxy tab s6 in perfect condition .. $300 plus $300 voucher .. only worth about $300 on gumtree = good deal
eg flip3 in perfect condition .. $550 .. ripped off by about $200 so not a good deal = bad deal

        • +1

So break you glass of your perfectly good s20+ to make it a bad deal to good deal :P

        • +1

I'm confused…I thought the $300 voucher offer ended earlier in the month?

    • +9

nah… offered me $70 for my Pixel 3XL with no faults or marks… think i will just give it to my mum :p~

      • +3

It's $70 + $300 so really you're getting $370 for it so I'd say it's worth it. Unless I'm misunderstanding how it works.

        • +1

Well depends how you look at it. If you assume the alternative is buying a Pixel 6 for $999, then yeah you're effectively getting $370 of value from the trade-in. But given you can get the Pixel 6 for $799 without a trade-in (potentially less via officeworks), really the trade-in value from your perspective is $170. Which makes it seem a lot less worth it, to me.

    • +7

      For a saving of $100 I would "fart-arse" around.

      • +1

        Agree, definitely worth fart-arsing for

        • +3

Depends on how much fart-arsing is required. Less than an hour's worth of fart-arse maybe, but over that the tolerance for fart-arsing peaks…

    • +6

JB trade in is kinda rubbish. My old S21 Ultra is worth 675 bucks as quotation from JB trade in and I sold it to a nice guy 950 bucks thru gum tree. My S21 ultra is like brand new condition. Always in heavy duty case and never drops. No dent or any scratch or so. But Trade in doesn’t care about this. And also some store says yes to combine trade in voucher and sign up bonus while some says NO. So I’d prefer To buy it in a simple way.

      • Agree .. not great for every phone .. refer my examples above.

      • +1

If you are willing to trade in a phone you are willing to not getting anywhere near the value of the device.

      • Yep, their trade-in program is intended for the majority, i.e. those too lazy to sell it themselves.

        • Correct

    • +2

Can I trade my Nokia 5110?

      • Yes for a cup of coffee

    • The need to send them a phone is obviously a lot more cost and effort than not doing that.

  • Does is have external sdcard support?

    • +16

      On a Google phone? Haha

    • +8

      No.

      • No deal for me then.

      • Didn't know about this, definitely a deal breaker.

        • +7

There's dozens of us, dozens! Starting to think Sony is the only one ticking all my boxes for the next device. TCL from the other day came close.

          3.5mm headphone jack
          SDCard slot
          Wireless charging
          Optical fingerprint reader
          At least 4500mah battery

          • +4

@peterpaoliello: Sony ticks all boxes. However, you need to keep in mind that there won't be local warranty. Also, Sony phones are very expensive for what they are.
Having said that, my old, old Sony Xperia Premium XZ hasn't missed a beat, even after 5 years of daily use. After all those years, it's still the only phone with a real UltraHD (4k) screen.

            • @vrsac: I had a Z3 compact back in the day which did alright. Even second hand Sony if can sneak in for under 600 doesn't seem like terrible deal. My Huawei Mate 10 (2017) is still going strong for now

          • +1

@peterpaoliello: I thought sony pulled out of the australian market?

            • @jlien: I'd only been watching the YouTube reviews, didn't give a thought to availability but yes you may be right. Well the search continues then!

            • @jlien: They did, but they still sell them officially on Amazon - the 1 iii at least.

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone though, they're about $500 too expensive and the cameras are terrible compared to the flagships they're priced to compete with, same with their updates.

    • no, it's such a same

    • gotta up their profits somehow with a relatively low price like this and google drive is a pretty convenient way for them to do that

      • +1

They've really moved away from what they stood for with Nexus

        • I don't think Nexus 5 had a sd card slot

    • No, Google want you to use Google photos cloud storage

  • -5

    Pretty sure this is cheaper?

    • +12

and its local stock so also dont have to worry about grey imports or buying from Kogan

      • Never done this but will OW will price match kogan if it's grey import?

        • +4

You'd need to get someone incompetent enough not to see the model numbers are different and hence they are different products.

Edit: it's sold by Kogan Marketplace not even Kogan so they haven't even bothered putting a model number. You've got next to zero chance.

        • +1

I managed to get OW online to match the price as it was shipped from Melbourne & not overseas

    • +5

      Kogan is a s h I t hole.

  • +1

I don't think you can price match at Officeworks as you'll need to at least have a plan with Telstra already, or add a plan on top of the phone.

    Min cost: $799
If you already have a service with us, you can buy outright without adding a plan.

    • +1

Probably toss of a coin, I didn't have any luck having OW match the last deal but others seemed to.

    • It does say that but in reality I think you only need a Telstra ID to buy outright. That's doesn't help with price-matching at OW of course.

    • I've done it recently. If you don't have a Telstra ID, create one. Then navigate to the check out page at OW.

    • Tried two office works stores - the first one initally agreed but when I called back to confirm after looking for availability they clued in and denied it. Another store denied it right away.

I can't recommend this phone. Too much messing around with the unreliable fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. It has gotten old very quickly and tiresome whilst at shops trying to pay for things and then having to login using my password. Even the updates since release have not helped.

    • +1

Can you unlock the phone with face ID?

      • +2

        Nope.

      • +1

When rooted you can install Magisk and face unlock. Not as secure though.

        • +2

Which breaks google pay most of the time anyway.

          • +4

@stratbargain: All the effort and time of rooting - less secure and less functional google pay.. boo
Eventually I can see a lot of people getting an iphone for a proper working device.
I've been resisting it since the iPhone 3G haha. Can't stand itunes and all that, bit of a mission changing over (luckily they are very expensive so haven't bothered).

          • @stratbargain: Got Google pay working without issues. Must be lucky then.

      • +1

There are rumours that they might add it eventually (some indications in the source code), but don't count on it.

      • +2

Hey you, stop asking questions. That's a downvotable offence around here.

    • On my p6 pro I find wiping the screen often helps, is better these days. I thing I registered my fingers twice as well.

      • +1

Done that too. Even tried the moisturising cream tip. Not helped. To be fair, sometimes the sensor works fine for a period though more often than not I'm at the shops or a drive through fumbling around trying to login to my phone. I'd have preferred it didn't come with a fingerprint sensor and I'm forced to use the password. Certainly the worst fingerprint sensor of any phone I have ever owned.

        • +2

Google has reduced the incorrect attempts before it asks for an alternate, I use a pattern which is pretty quick when the fingerprint fails. Not ideal but it works. My P2 had a super fast sensor on the back, no idea why google dropped it.

    • +3

      Yeah I returned mine.

Fingerprint sensor wouldn't work in bright sunlight.

      Mobile phone reception would drop.

      USB-C DACs don't work properly.

I had the 6 Pro. Unsure if the 6 had these issues.

      • +2

how did you get them to accept a return?

        • +2

          Australian Consumer Law

Major issues and I wouldn't have bought the phone if I had known

      • Same. I returned mine too. Absolute $hit show

    • That's a shame. I've heard that the fingerprint scanner is rubbish, it's the first model with it on the front. One of the reasons I didn't think it was worth upgrading from the pixel 5 (usually just get every second model). Nothing wrong with the rear fingerprint scanner and works great.

Ps over using that anti bacterial hand wash makes you fingerprints and grip not as good.

      • +1

Also the A's are pretty good. Might be worth waiting for the 6a.

        • I'm still on my 3a XL and it's been solid for 3 years, best phone I've had right up until I dropped it cracking the screen then got a bucket of water poured on me.
I'm hanging out for the 6a, hopefully all the 6 bugs are fixed and it comes in at a competitive price.

          • @1st-Amendment: I'm still on my nexus 6p, but only after dropping both my 3a and 4a in water. :P

        • I have a 4a 5G after having a motorola x4, and the 4a 5G hasn't skipped a beat. Hopefully the 6a will bring back the fingerprint reader on the back.

    • I purchased on release day and had terrible finger print issues. Found after a lot of trial and error that the screen protector I was using somehow mucked about with the finger print sensor. After I removed it and replaced in December with another brand, things were HEAPS better but still not perfect. Then with the January update I found the finger print issues were completely solved for me. I have the P6 Pro though. Wife has the P6 standard since January and never an issue with the finger print sensor. That being said it is slower than the older rear sensors but no slower in my experience than the Samsung in screen sensors.

In the end I love this phone. I've had a Pixel 2, 3, and 4xl and this is a truely impressive phone to use. Although I miss my face ID.

      • Out of curiosity, are you able to name the bad screen protector and the better ones?

        • +1

Max Shield didn't work so well. Milomdoi has been good.

      • I don't have or use a screen protector with the P6 so it can't be that in my situation.

    • +1

Weird. My finger print senor is rock solid. When I was setting it up I did move my finger around sideways a bit through the ten taps so it would pick up an off centre scan easy

    • Finger needs a bit of moisture give it a lick. Trust me. πŸ˜‹

  • +1

I still see some negative feedback for pixel 6. Is it worth to upgrade from oneplus 7T?

    • OnePlus 7T is a great phone still?

      • Do oneplus yet support volte and vowifi on telstra? (without rooting)

  • +1

I went to checkout (without a plan) and then it start asking questions and details for a credit check. No dice, they can go kick rocks.
It seems to only be available if you already have an existing service with them, not just an id.

  • Google store can price match it.

    • How do you do that?

    • +1

Google specifically told me they don't price match from Telstra. They have a list of specific stores they will price match from, and Telstra ain't one of them

    • +2

      Google will price match
      Bunnings
      Harvey Norman
      JB Hi-Fi
      Officeworks
      The Good Guys

They will also refund price difference after purchase of it is within their return period. I've successfully done this several times.

      • +5

How do I get Google to price match this Ryobi Pressure washer I want at Bunnings?

        • lollollol

        • You have to ask them and be fluid to the response.

  • +8

Pixel 5 still better than this. Stable, unlimited hq photos

    • +2

Too bad its not available anymore. I'm still happy to buy an old phone (P5) and not P6.

      • +3

I'm still running my Pixel 2 XL. A phone that is so good I can't find any reason to replace it. The only downside is battery gets old, but that's absolutely normal and by far reasonably acceptable.

        • +1

I upgraded from a standard pixel 2 for pixel 6 pro. To be honest if I could have replaced the battery I might have stuck it out another year. But this phone is pretty great and the cameras are awesome.

        • haha same here - starting to get a bit tired now hence why i was checking out this deal, but it has been the best phone I have ever owned by a long way!!

      • Can get refurbished ones on ebay

    • +5

Love my P5. Perfect size and not a slab.

      • -2

        are you sure about that?

      • I initially thought it was smaller than other phones but after using it a while it became my daily driver. Good size better than my LG V50. I just don’t game on it

    • What are the cameras like on it? Is there anything on it that you'd wish were different?

  • is this better than the find x2 pro cause it looks like they don't sell it anymore atleast at jbhifi

    • +1

You will be very disappointed after x2 pro - the pixel's screen is rubbish, lots of bugs and lagging, the battery not even close to the specs.

      • Thanks I love my find x2 pro wish they still sold them, asking incase my mum wants to upgrade shes got a pocco
