Google Pixel 6 128GB $799 Outright Delivered @ Telstra (Telstra ID Required)

1820

Google Pixel 6 128GB has had price drop at Telstra, now $799 Delivered. Just don't add a plan when asked. Try getting Officeworks to beat it too, should bring it down to $759.

Not as cheap as JB deal when it was $699 with trade in - but you dont have to fart-arse around with silly trade ins and bonuses, and its local stock so also dont have to worry about grey imports or buying from Kogan.

        • For the same price as p6 you can catch x3 pro on eBay sales/specials.

          • @rwt: x3 didn't get aswell recieved as the x2 i think plus at jb x3 prop still $1400

            • @froogletom: X3 basically the same as x2, minus zoom camera
I bought it for around $800 with ebay deal a few months ago

  • Pretty awesome deal. Had my pixel 6 since launch. All the bugs reported are now pretty much gone. Yeah the fingerprint sensor isn't as fast as others but overall its still a great phone and should only get better with further updates.

My silent bell still disappears from the notification bar at times. Like right now on my P6P

      • whats the silent bell?

        • The bell with a line through it to denote that your phone is on silent …

          • @kerfuffle: haha that makes sense. i have never turned it on silent :P

            • @HappyXD: Even when watching a movie in a cinema or going to the theatre or even someone's wedding/ceremony/important event? Yikes.

              • +1

@kerfuffle: oh wait does silent mean it still vibrates?? hey hey im still considerate :) my phone just vibrates but no sound!

                • @HappyXD: You can still hear vibration in a silent theatre. Silent is no vibration at all

          • -1

@kerfuffle: What’s the quickest way to get to the silent bell? Tap volume rocker — bell icon?

      • I thought it was just me. I have scheduled days and times for silent mode (basically during office hours) and my phone will turn off silent mode on its own while I'm at work. So (profanity) annoying.

    • Sometimes my keyboard doesn't pop up and the only way to fix it is reboot. Reported by others as an android 12 update problem. Very frustrating

      • That only happens on Yahoo! sites for me in chrome

These P6 and P6P have far too many unresolved issues. A shame really because the cameras are desirable

    • I was thinking they would release an A version of pixel 6. Otherwise I guess skip this Gen wait for 7

      • Pixel 6A is coming soon.

      • yes. buy gen 7. that will make them fix the bugs

    • As a P6P user and with my wife as a P6 user we are not experiencing 'far too many unresolved issues'. I suspect some of the media reporting of issues is more about poor expectation management than real world user experience. Finger print sensor issues were the only issues I had at release and that was a combination of cheap screen protector and early release. It has been completely solved since January.

      • +3

I've been confused by the endless comments about the phones being buggy since launch. I've had a P6P since launch and genuinely can't think of a single bug that has occurred. I'm guessing I'm one of the lucky ones - either that or I just don't notice them. Either way, best phone I've ever owned. Love it.

        • +1

No issues here either. I'm starting to think it's the users that are the issue.

          • @Jamiea:

I'm starting to think it's the users that are the issue.

It's the same problem with all internet reviews, the 1% of complainers make a point to tell the world about their problems, while the other 99% of happy customers just get on with their day and you never hear from them. The system is heavily skewed towards people who want to complain about something.

        • Hi, does you device gets hot when using the mobile data for tiktok or youtube ? Thanks

  • Man, I'm so curious about the tensor core with the border opening up. But I will always refuse to buy anything without a headphone jack.

    • Its not ground breaking, just slightly behind the sd888 in the typical benchmarks. Im sure these cores are well optimised to harvest everything though, they are aimed at AI learning.

      • I'm actually interested in the new tensor powered translator. Apparently it even works with languages that used to be very difficult to translate, like Japanese and Chinese.

        • +1

Found the visual translation amazing, rock solid and super fast

  • On checkout asking for credit check?

    • Did you do it as an outright purchase or month-to-month? Also, have you ever purchased anything from Telstra before? Typically i believe they only do a credit check if you have no history.

      • Outright, yeah I never done any purchases before

        • Ah ok, i think it is because of that part that they may do a credit check. It should go through fine I think, it just gets reviewed.

Might be worth watching reviews like this before buying. https://youtu.be/MiTG1ride7s

A buggy phone for daily use. Google updates and vanilla android were used to be the attraction for using Pixel phones, but with buggy OS and updates, Google has killed that attraction too.

    • Oneplus was the go before up to 7 pro but they killed it also now with pixel 6 being buggy I dunno what else to get. Luckily still got pixel 5 let’s hope I can get few years out of it, it was released October 2020 time flies during lockdown

  • +6

Have the P6P. As others have said, the phone is a buggy mess. Every update seems to fix one thing and breaks others. Also, SO.MANY.CALL.DROPS OMG. Happens every time the phone switches between wifi calling and normal calling. On Boost. Never used to have any call drops with my Pixel 3a which was a great phone.

    • -1

Have you tried turning off wifi calling?

      • +3

seriously? .. that's a basic feature that should just work.

        • +3

It should. But unless you have terrible 3g/4g reception at home/work it’s not required

    • Thanks for your review. I'll keep my P5 then

      • Wish I could get mine back 🙁

    • Agreed! That and the random declined calls before I even get a chance to answer them…whilst I'm holding the phone! Also not many people use duel Sim (esim and physical) but I do for work and compared to the p5, the battery life on the p6pro sucks. Can't even last until 5pm each day before having 10% battery life. There is definitely something they have got horribly wrong with the cellular chip in these because it's 5 steps back from the p5!

    • Have you preferenced one over the other (Wifi vs Mobile) ?

      • Wifi calling is much clearer on my iPhone. I never used it before this as I had a one plus phone before.

  • +3

    For what it's worth, I wish I hadn't bought my P6.
Went from P3 to this, waited for the 6 instead of buying the 5, would've preferred to take the 5 in retrospect.
Main thing that annoys me that simply won't go away is that it constantly drops connectivity. Only resolution I've found is switching to flight mode for ~30 secs.
Keep in mind I have to do this on average twice daily. Incredibly irritating, notwithstanding the fact that I paid $1k for this convenience!

The fingerprint sensor sucks massively. Yes it works, but requires very accurate placement, and has a delay. Can't fathom why they changed something that worked so much better previously.

Most other bugs have been ironed out. But I'd also say that the top heavy design (heavy camera module bar) is less pleasant to hold than say an S20/S21.

I do find battery life excellent for my use. But that is after my last two phones were aging P3 and P3XL

    • +2

Slave to the upgrades.. hard to know of all the bugs and issues until after about 6 months or a year, the glowing reviews aren't always accurate and they change stuff for the sake of it.

Could always sell and get a pixel 5.. still happy with mine. Had a 3XL before this, which had a better display, better speaker (earpiece and loudspeaker), felt more premium etc. The battery life is waaay better on the P5 though, and like the smaller handset most of the time.

I think eventually more people will get an iPhone down the track.

      • I much prefer the pixel 5 than say iPhone 12. Not sure about others. P5 battery is not bad but like other phones once you got Bluetooth on all day same deal need to charge every 1.5 days

        • Agree, I only turn on BT when I need it.
Anything over a day is alright, i can last for about 2 on standby i've found.
Good to clean up apps every so often and not clog it up.

      • I think eventually more people will get an iPhone down the track.

        Why?

        • i think he/she means that if Google keeps making mistakes on Pixel, people will move to iPhone
I doubt it as people will go to Xiaomi, Oppo, the cheaper Chinese alternatives

          • @neonlight: Just better hardware is the point, not saying i want to be in the apple ecosystem.

  • -4

Crazy to spent so much over a spy phone 😆

    • +1

Is that what you will use it for?

  • +2

Absolutely terrible phone, don't bother. I've had nothing but issues with my Pixel 6.

  • +2

    Pixel 5 gang gang

  • Wow I had no idea it was that bad. I'm still very happy with my 5a 5G, although I've refused to update you Android 12 so far but probably will have to at some point.

  • +8

Great deal, the Pixel series in general is polarizing!

Personally I've had the 6 pro since launch and my wife has the 6 for the same time, neither of us have had any issues to be honest (No we don't work for google nor think their products are the bees knees).

My 2 cents on common complaints.

Fingerprint: if you use any sort of tempered glass, it will affect performance drastically. Both my wife and I are using Amfilm TPU protectors (same feel as glass) and fingerprint success rate is 99%.

Drop-outs: Never had any, we are on MVNO's and as such do not use 5G

Battery: Perfectly fine, around 6-7hours SOT for both of us. leisurely use will see it go 2 days. We also set them both up from scratch if that makes a difference (not restoring backups).

bottom-line - acknowledge people are having issues, but there is likely a larger contingent of users out there without issues.

    • 100% agree
I haven't had any of the issues that the nay-sayers keep repeating. The FPS does take a little longer in direct sunlight but still works perfectly. No issues with battery life. Can't comment on phone reception as I live in a dead zone anyway so have to rely on Wifi calling when at home. When out and about it's perfectly fine. My personal opinion is that each user's phone usage is different, and that the knockers simply haven't done their research to ensure that the specs will meet their specific needs. Easier to blame the phone than themselves.

    • I am sorry but I will take this with a pinch of salt. Drops outs are a reality and saying that i dont use 5G on a phone advertised as 5G therefore its not an issue is disingenuous. The biggest clusterduck is FPS by a long shot and I would doubt anyone who tells me otherwise unless their expectations are too low. I have tried three pixels, starting with a 6 Pro which I sold to get a Pixel 6 because of the sheer size and weight and then a replacement Pixel 6 because I though my FPS was wrong. All three of them bad terrible FPS and its a near mathematically impossibility that I got three out of three phones with bad FPS.

It is unfortunate because I quite liked the rest of the phone - Android 12 is fast and snappy and colorful, main camera is excellent, but the wide angle though is compromised - its barely any wider than the main camera and it does not have auto focus.

    • I tried the amfilm protector (bought on Amazon AU) and the fingerprint sensor wasnt working for me. Which amfilm model did you get, do you mind sharing please? I am currently using a Spigen one and it probably works 50% of the time, so have orderer (yet another one!) screen protector, this time a Google-certified one from the UK! Fingers crossed!

      • +1

"(2 Pack) amFilm Elastic Skin Screen Protector for Google Pixel 6 Pro" thats the one we are using. Also using that for the pixel 6 as well - I trimmed it down slightly to fit the pixel 6.

        • Hi @chickenteriyaki, sorry to bother you again. How did you trim down the screen protector pls? And did you trim it before you applied it on the screen, I suppose?

          • +1

            @bukowski73: No issues!

Cutting board, metal ruler, box cutter with a fresh blade. Trim the sides and bottom down using the notch as guide.

Do this before you apply it to the phone.

    • +1

Fully agree with your assessment based on mine and my wife's experience. Not a major issue at all. Best phone I've ever had.

  • Not sure if it's worth a new deal or just add it here, but this price drop also affects the Rewards points offers. I just checked the Telstra app and my 37000 points brings the price down to $696.

  • +2

Officeworks (Ringwood) price matched it, including the 5% off discount total of $759.05.
They did not have the specific model in stock, so they're "ording it in" and should be available for pickup at the store by Tuesday (Long weekend).

Google did not price match, and they stated the only places they do price match, (Bunnings, Etc)

    • I'm wondering how did you able to convince them to pricematch it? because I just phoned Officeworks and they won't price match that due to that it need Telstra account

      • I had three office works stores reject my price match attempts.

  • Anyone has the heating up issue when using mobile data? My Pixel 6 pro get really hot when using mobile data for tiktok youtube facebook etc. no issue when using WIFI.

    • That is normal for any phone, laptop, computer you're using the GPU to play videos which always generates heat.

  • +3

    wait for the next gen

  • +1

Good time to claim price protection with my 28 degrees card :)

    • I still haven't seen the pixel 5 under around $759 yet, originally paid $805 so only one claim in so far. Handy card indeed.

    • Ps. Been over a year buy about 6 weeks, unfortunately can't claim now (noticed
becextech.com.au has the pixel 5 for $595 FFS)

      • Got a refund for both Pixels I got last year. One of them was refunded only $130 because of the discount I got during launch last year that appeared in the invoice. That was a win win with $192.80 google store credit total + $70 discount + $330 price protection.

        • Oh right which ones return, what get instead?
The P5 still going fine upgrading to the 6 was never appealingly

          • @G-rig: It is not worth to replace Pixel 5 for Pixel 6 IMHO. I moved from Pixel 2 so it was worth it, but I miss the quality and compactness of the Pixel 2.

            • @Colombian: Yes agree, especially when it's not as good in some areas and more expensive (not sure if the full photo quality backups still apply either).

I like the pixel 5, certainly more compact than my 3XL, fantastic battery and wouldn't want any smaller.

Usually just upgrade every second model if it's worthwhile to do so.

              Cheers

  • Another thing with this is that I tried it today however they refuse to send the device unless you have an Australian passport / Australian driver's license

    • Even after using Oz DL, I kept getting error on the website after successfully completing the verification on smartphone. Something along the lines 'The ID verification was not successful'. I did it successfully last year.

    • Easier just doing a price beat at officeworks when there's a good deal on.

      • Already got refused, "Although it's outright but it still requires Telstra service."

        • Yeah the Telstra stuff is annoying. Hopefully can price beat someone else in the future.

  • I took the plunge and bought it from Optus @10% off, with a $65 500gb 5g plan. Cancelling the plan before end of billing cycle, and paying remainder of hand set 915 Inc GST.

  • Any suggestions for the screen protector? saw many on Ebay and Amazon but reviews al not always good, mostly issue with the finger print unlock.

    • +1

you dont need a screen protector .. just use your brain and think what you do with your phone ..

also fingerprint sensor will be worse with a screen protector.

naked screen is best for touch sensitivity and display quality.

      • Some people need them, they're just naturally clumsy. But I agree the screen quality is much better without one.

        • Just give it a try going naked .. it's not too hard to be careful ..

worst case, you have a few light scratches which don't cause any harm and hardly notice
