    Wow, that's still pretty expensive.

Has anyone tried it and can attest whether it's worth it?

    • So I did the free version/courses and it was fantastic! However I received basically fortnightly emails highlighting this 'deal'. It comes up very often so no rush to make a decision. I believe code academy is one of the best ways to learn. My friend bought this and completed the python 3 course and enjoyed it

      • Is it learning for fun type level? Or work skill level that someone could use to transition in a career move?

        • As someone who only did the free course (python 2 I believe), I think it definitely helps with a career move. For me one day I'd like to do more of the courses then transition to a uni degree with the knowledge I've learnt. Therefore I personally have done it with a career change in mind. Try out the free ones first and see what you think.

IMO I prefer Scrimba as it seems to feel a bit more lean and you can better "code along" with the video. Though I also prefer the video content then the reading one also, so that may be part of it: https://scrimba.com/#overview

In saying that, I've done a few CodeAcademy courses, I like them and they teach you a bit, but once you've learned one language there isn't a huge difference to another except syntax, and this doesn't help you remember that syntax super well (as its about teaching it, not remembering it).

As you say though, its "expensive". Theres a lot of free content available that you don't need to pay for and the ones you do end of the day I find myself wanting to learn a certain language for a month, not a year and have only bought that. IMO they should either sell courses one by one, have a choice of lifetime or reduce their fees heavily so I'm happy to purchase a full year knowing I may not use some months.

      • Scrimba looks good, but is it $40 a month good? There is an annual fee which comes to half the price, so again is that worth paying for a full year, or just to do 1 month?

Good question, it used to be free when I tried it, and then some courses became paid but as early on it was quite cheap. So I don't know if its "worth it" now, esp at 40 a month. Honestly I'd try some of the free courses first and see if you like it. Then spend a month learning the one you're interested in if you want to pay for something (or see if the language itself has its own cost).
