Samsung 85" AU8000 Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV (2021) - $2,299 (was $2,699) Shipped @ Samsung

760

Guys, I've been chasing this or similar for a while and just picked one up myself.

Looks like a lot of TV for the money. Not top end/state of the art gear, and is last year's model, but if you're like me and just want to watch the TV without getting all caught up on the finer points of picture quality, audio quality, connectivity with thousands of other high end gadgets, then this looks like a good place to go for an 85" TV.

Smaller sized screens come down in price from there.

Not sure how long this one's going to last, especially being a run out model, but might scratch the itch for someone out there.

Specs are all in the product link for those interested.

$2,184 delivered at Samsung Edu/Gov EPP if you have access. Probably even cheaper on other EPPs too.

    • What’s an EPP?

      • Discount portal for certain people/industries/companies

  • Can anyone speak to its performance? I'm after a 65 and a 55. I know its not top of the line but wondering how good it is

Although its a lot of screen for the cost, but I would wait for QLED even of I could buy QN85A.

      So that's like say a 120. Yeah?

Ok so have Panasonic VA led, 8000 (85)and q70a (75). Too be honest the 8000 is pretty awesome. We find the q70 to have deeper greens when we watch free to air but we actually don't do that often, we use fetch which washes the colour out - same with Google TV on both, not really much difference at 50fps when watching nrl.

Not really quantative but we love our 8000 - coming off a plasma previously been very pleasantly surprised. Q70 was 500 more than the 8000 through epp but 85 VS 75….

We bought this same model about a year ago (very similar price - display model at Costco at the time).
We are not overly discerning about top end quality etc, so can't really tell you if it compares favourably or otherwise with other TV's that we own or have owned.

Suffice to say, it's big and it works. The picture is clear enough and there are plenty of adjustments in terms of colour settings etc if you don't like the standard out of the box.

I would say that it is possibly a little less "rich" in colour compared to our 75" Samsung that we watch most of the time. However, this could just be the way we set up the 85" - we bought it primarily to use as a large screen so that we could watch and assess the techniques of participants in online courses that we teach. So we set up the colour/contrast/etc settings to give us the "easiest to see image" in that scenario.

Basically, the image is fine, the menus are responsive and it just works as a big TV.
I'm sure there are better quality panels out there, but not for this sort of price.

    Are these littered with ads?

    • Ads…yes
      Littered…no

    • All their tvs are. After 6months it’ll suddenly start giving you ads in the menu bar. Never buying their garbage again.

      • +1

Seriously? That's unacceptable for something this expensive. They can't sell a product without filling it with advertising? Utterly shameless and not worth supporting any company that does this.

        • I think all Smart Tvs brands have ads nowadays :/ . I can’t verify as my plasma is still going strong.

How is it compared to Q60?

  • +1

I've got this one. It's great. I feel like the motion handing / frame rate is probably the only area I'd like it to be better. I can tell my 2021 frame in the bedroom is better for watching sport. Big seller for these tvs is the ultra slim wall mount imo

Much cheaper on EPP guys, don’t buy from this

  • I breifly looked over the terms of use on the bottom of the page and I'm not sure if I can say this here but if anyone is looking to buy a 85" QN85A feel free to send me a pm with your interest.
Alternatively if not allowed or this should be posted somewhere else please let me know otherwise
