The rot ring 600 ballpoint pen blends the iconic form of the 600….

So it is not fresh ?

    • +11

Cannot believe I put my trust in Amazon that the product descriptions would have been proof-read. They played me like a damn FIDDDLE

    • +15

      Wait…. You're not JV

      • +1

        We're all just JV alts

      • That's obvious because Rotring is one word and JV wouldn't make such a bad comment

  • +2

Will it make my handwriting legible?

    • +9

as someone with bad handwriting - i can report no. It is a very nice pen though.

  • What I'm looking for is a nice pen to fit in my compendium, but it's a tight squeeze. Currently I have a Parker Jotter that fits in it - would this be a similar girth?

    • +2

Mech pencil version of this is one of the slimmer writing instruments in my drawer.

    • +2

a quick google reports both parker jotter (normal, not xl) and rotring 600 is 9mm width

    • +1

it's thinner than the parker jotter.

  • can i sign cheques and my autograph on this?

  • +4

I really thought that there were 600 pens for $28.94. it's not misleading, but OP should include in the title just for one pen only.

    • +1

600 is the model but sure i'll add it

EDIT nevermind, its not letting me change the description as its throwing the 'Cannot change deal from Amazon UK Store to a different store. If it really needs to be done, please contact a moderator.' error

    • +5

The title does not say Rotring 600 Ballpoint Pens

    • Surely you cannot be serious

      • +1

I can, and don't call me Shirley.

  • Don't need it now, the brand brings back fond memories of my technical drawing days.

    • It's a nice pen even if you're not doing drawing/tech drawings.

    • IKR? Nowadays the kiddies reach for a 0,5mm the don't have to shake it or nothing…

Then there's the T-square sword fights

  • +1

    Is this pen IEEE compliant?

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Ordered.
Have a rotring as a corporate branded one but always wanted another

  • +6

$28 for a pen??!! Am I missing any detail ? Why would someone spend 28 aud for a pen ?

    • +12

      its a really nice pen

      • +1

When compared to a free pen or $1 pen how is it different?

        • +11

mate you're just going to have to accept the pen isnt for you…

a $1 / free pen will get the job done just fine.

        • +4

how are $15 Birkenstock copies from Aldi different to $100 Birkenstocks from Germany ?
They do the same thing but do feel different when you wear them
just like fountain pen feels different to ballpoint which feels different to a roller ball which feels different to gel pen. The pens at work are crap …. the bic ones, I go to office works and buy gel ones from my own money ….. yep still write on paper and draw diagrams on paper at meetings.

Just like a $1 pen feels different to a $10 pen although both write. Must say though have got some good free pens with corporate branding (parker jotters).

          • @garage sale: One of the best pens I’ve used was a RMS pen I got a couple years ago. I was honestly really surprised haha

        • Better ergonomics (biggest benefit)
Then comes sense of pride in ownership, better writing experience, durability, less contribution to landfill etc.

Same analogy can be applied to reasons for using a current model car vs 20 yesr old $500 commodore.

          • +3

@abadacus: hey y u gotta bash the the 20 year old $500 commo (with obligatory missing fuel tank cap) like that :c

(Even if it IS worth more as spare parts)

            • +3

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Lol yesterday I saw a Kingswood on the road, complete with the obligatory coathanger aerial!

    • +7

Am I missing any detail ?

Yes. Unnecessary space before the '?'

This pen will eliminate similar errors.

      • So it has smarts inbuilt?

    • +5

I mean, you can make this comment about literally anything that you can buy for a cheaper price somewhere else in another brand or specification for cheaper.

      "$50K for a car??!" Am I missing a detail?"
"$750 for a video game console??!! Am I missing a detail?"
      "$12 for a burger??!!! Am I missing a detail?"

      • +5

        "$50K for a car??!" Am I missing a detail?"

        Inflation

"$750 for a video game console??!! Am I missing a detail?"

        Inflation

        "$12 for a burger??!!! Am I missing a detail?"

        Chips

      • I don’t think so.Expensive car can offer more features.
$12 burger .. you are missing beef

        • depends if you preffer ball-point, roller ball, gel or fountain pen feel when you write …. different prices, different feel when you write. Even the brand of refill makes a difference in the feel of how a pen writes.

Got into the habit of using gel pens during exams, write faster and less pressure than ball-point pens, and when …. depends how much writing you do in a day.

    • The same sort of people who spend astronomical sums for a Rolex watch

      • +1

Not really in the same magnitude …but yea i guess.

      • Nope. People who buy Rolex do so mostly due to FOMO, to impress others, to receive external validation have no idea what else exists, or a combination of all said points.

        • +3

Or also because they’re really nice watches and they like them

    • +2

I have spent orders of magnitude more than this on single pens.
Pens are both a tool and a hobby, and I tend to buy them for both.

The rOtring mechanical pencils in a 2B are a pleasure to use, if you have a daily use for such things.
Expensive fountain pens are a pleasure to write with all day if you have a use for such things.

If you don't, then 28 bucks is a lot in the same way that a DSLR camera is a lot compared to a phone camera when all you want to do is take the occasional photo of your cat for instagram.

    • No one tell this guy Raden pens. He might loose it all together.

    • +1

My doctor writes with a Mont Blanc pen I know is worth more than $500. He has handed to me on several occasions like it's a Bic to sign a medicare form.

  • +1

Used to have a 2.0mm mech pencil version, dropped on the floor once then couldn't hold the lead when writing.

    • ' It also has a hexagonal shape so it doesn’t slide off your working table or writing space.'

      haha.

I've dropped my pen version a handful of times on concrete from table height and still seems to be okay…

  • +2

Any deals on a Rolamech 1000?

  • dammit pen and pencil in cart and only comes up to $65

    • +5

Just add a dozen Rolamech 1000s. They’ll have to order them in, and the rest of your cart will ship in the meantime. Then, after it ships, cancel the Rolamechs

    • did you already use up your amazon trial?

or else consider getting some parker refills/ lead for the mech pencil if they are on special. You will eventually need it.

    • which pencil did you get? got a link handy? thanks :)

  • +13
    1. I don't need this
    2. Check reviews, looks nice
    3. still don't need it
    4. buy it

Always wanted to try one of these. Hope its decent!

    • +2

It writes nice, has an edc look and feel.
But pencil wise I prefer the uni Kuru Toga

      • +1

But pencil wise I prefer the uni Kuru Toga

Lucky that this is a pen

      • It is part of my black on black EDC i'm trying to put together.

    • +1

      This is the way.

    • +1

      Exact same process here.

      Thanks OP

    • +1

      Lol same

  • what's a good refill for this?

    • +1

Im using Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 for this and its awesome. Sometimes I switch to Monteverge gels from time to time. Never a Parker because its too scratchy for me and the Rotring 600 is on the heavy side.

      • are these all universal fits? no issues buying refills from different brands?

        • Has to be Parker-style G2 refills. Refills for space pens doesnt fit (without mod)

      • I agree, the parker refills are 'scratchy' -
I bought a 10 pack for $14. Hard to argue w/ price. But a pen like this I reckon would benefit from a nicer refill.
They are currently a little over $17 from amazon UK
        https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B086TRGX5K?th=1

  • It's no space pen

    • Easier to use a pencil

  • This or jetstream

    • +2

I see you are also an ozbargain member of culture.
I will always have a softspot for jetstreams but at the moment I am loving this rotring

      • +1

I really like jetstream alphagel. (But lost mine 😭)

Have quite a few jestream refills to get through aswell

      • If this takes a Parker refill it should also take a jetstream g2 refill as well right?

Bit pricy but they're a good combination

        • +1

if the jestream refill is like a Parker-style G2 refills then should do yea

    • Just going by the shape and materials, I think Jetstreams would be more suited for long periods of writing.
Relied heavily on Jetstreams getting me through uni!

      • +1

rotring600 has a very fine knurling just where you grip it which I could see might irritate the skin depending on writing style/duration.

        • Agree, its certainly not for everyone. I dont use it as my main pen due to the aggresive knurling and weight. Mainly use it for drawing (industrial).

          • @JsonDough: Some people pay good money for a bit of aggresive knurling!

        • Lol. This is why I asked you the question above instead of searching Google. You are clearly someone that knows their pens.

  • +1

That looks like a nice pen.

  • Thanks picked one up! For re-fills is it able to take the parker quinkflow ballpen refills?

    Cheers!

    • if its like Parker-style G2 then yes (im not familiar with the other refills i just got the g2 ones).

      • Cool cool :)

Got so many spares from Amazon sales.. However i find parker G2 refills sometimes run out really quickly.. Do you recommend any nicer ones?

        • +1

poster above suggested Schmidt Easy Flow 9000 - which I now have on my wishlist and will grab after i deplete my g2's.

  • love the pencil. Hope the pen is equally good

  • I am surprised that so many people are still using pen these days..

    • as opposed to..stylus? or you mean typing in general?

      • +1

modern world requires all messages to be sent as emogies.. only way to talk to teenagers

    • Sharpies are more comfortable

  • +1

I'm a big fan of German and Japanese technical stationery and I have this pen - it's superb.

The Rotring 600 series pens and pencils are some of my favourites. This pen has a thicker nib than I normally like but it just feels great in hand.

Although Rotring is a German brand, this pen is made in Japan. This is a great price.

  • +1

Great pen, got it last time it was on deal, the ink is labelled as rotring and is smoother than the one I got with the Parker Jotter (compatible refill).
    Very comfortable in the hand.
