I don't see why a company would decide to create so many different size propriety batteries for digital radios and not include them with the radio purchase. Surely for radios, AA, C, or D size cells will suffice for convenience and backup in an emergency. People can have the choice to use rechargeable types to save money/environment or disposable for convenience. With this, if you use the radio outdoor and the battery dies, you will need to wait to re-charge the battery or buy another one of these as spare, which is inconvenient and costly. Secondly, these batteries besides having a potentially longer run time due to battery chemistry serves no other purpose besides using them in the radio it was designed for.
