I had issues with my Blade 17 Pro with i7-10875H and 2080S
- screen flicker on battery power
- static in audio on battery power
support was useless. I got rid of it
can't say keyboard is great for gaming either
however cooling was very efficient - 17 pro has 4 coolers for perfect air flow, and vapour chamber. but that's specific to 17 inch versions
How long you got this laptop until occur those issues?
actually right off the bat. noticed them 2nd or 3rd week of ownership
It's interesting reading this negative feedback.
I have the same Blade Pro 17 (2020 model bought recently from a deal posted on Ozbargain) and haven't experienced any of these issues.
I've been using it daily for gaming and uni work. Plugged into a docking station at my desk with peripherals and dual monitors, and also unplugged on the dining table or on the coffee table in the living room. So quite varied usage and moving around, plugging/unplugging, etc.
The only negative is the hideous Razer logo… I've bought a Dbrand skin to cover it up (which also helped resolve the fingerprint magnet issue too).
well that's the problem: spotty QA.
your unit is good, mine just wasn't
Typing this comment from my Razer Blade 14, exact build in this bargain. Can't complain about the build quality and haven't had any glitches or issues, been very satisfied with how much power is packed into this compact, premium package.
Just a couple of things to note if you're looking at this laptop:
* extremely powerful, which also means typically short battery life (<4 hours with screen at 165 Hz on default power profile, surfing internets)
* laptop gets very hot when doing heavy lifting or gaming, needs good ventilation
* performance is throttled if not plugged into gigantic power brick, e.g. USB-PD via dock does not provide enough power for full performance
* keyboard and trackpad clicks are a bit shallow, not amazing for gaming but acceptable for light productivity
* high resolution and refresh rate matte display is great, however brightness is a little low
* webcam is a little low-fi, built-in speakers won't blow your socks off
* fingerprint magnet
Hope that helps you make an informed decision. 😊
I typically use this laptop with a USB dock, connected to external peripherals which helps negate most of the issues above. That said, it's still a great laptop in its own right and feels amazing to carry around that much power in a <2 kg package.
I could be very much mistaken (as have only started browsing laptops again recently), but this still seems a bit up there, considering the Legion 5 Pro "the other day" was $1,900 odd for very similar specs inlcuding a high 140w TDP 3070. (SSD is admittedly half the size, but that's easily resolved)
That’s not exactly a like for like comparison, they’re are in different classes. Small and compact vs Chonky.
Yep fair call, and good to know, hadn't considered that! So being small and compact, what's the power rating on the GPU I wonder? Is the performance sustainable?
It's 100w, compared to 140w (145w and 150w 3070 also exists iirc) full powered 3070, and since it does not get mux switch you lose quite a large chunk of gpu performance.
Is there anything for under 1500 with a 3060rtx?
Acer Nitro 5 from Harvey Norman with i5. but you get what you pay

not exactly $1500, and refurb, but:
- 3060
- OLED panel
- full alloy body
I purchased a refurb Gigabyte from these guys before and it's superb, mine was actually brand new, in a damaged box. warranty registered as 2 years, and service centre is right here in melbs, if I ever need it (hope not)
mine is Aorus 17g, and I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality and mech keyboard - after owning a Razer Blade
What's the chance of this one being brand new? It's 1700$ for a secondhand laptop. I don't want to spend that much for a used one.
yeah I know. your choice though
market is tight, but prices are bound to come down, following the desktop sales
wait a bit more. 3060 under $1500 is either nitro 5, or cheap Dells, neither are good. crap components, dull screens, low TGP, inefficient thermals
at least here you're getting a premium device. refurb is usually change of mind returns, contact JW for details on this unit, see what they have to say. they may know more, and I find them great to deal with.
P.S. what they have right now is what's left of the last batch. ask them when the new one's coming. someone scored a 3080 15p for $2123 woosh
@shabaka: Thanks for the details info. Will look into it.
No thanks! Been having whirring and rattling fan blades issue while it was still in warranty period. Brought back from RMA, 100days later, the same problem happened again and they said it past the 90days RMA period hence won't do any fixings for me anymore. =.=
That is so sad and unreasonable.
hey mate, I returned my Razer a while back.
you sound like you've got a major defect - as in something that'd have prevented you from purchasing it.
mine had high pitched whistling from the fans and overheating at no loads (avdanced 15)
if they don't want to fix it - it sound like you're within your rights to request a replacement or refund

Any idea how you would go with regards to returns/warranty if purchasing this from Microsoft ebay?
Have Razor finally got on top of their quality control? Pretty and expensive devices, but I know too many people with first hand experience that won't buy another laptop or mouse from them.
