Found this NextG compatable HTC HD7 for under $300 (+postage)

Good price for a HD7 NextG comatable phone for anyone after a larger 4.3" display.

MobiCity has the NextG compatable version at over $450 ( http://www.mobicity.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=hd7&x=0&y… )

Phone is upgradeable to Windows Phone 7.5

Correct in saying that it isn't much use for those on Optus or in a Vodafone 900 area (there are still a few)

Well I use a "Next-G" phone exclusively on Optus and get solid speeds. It seems that 2100MHz covers the majority of places I am in.

    • I would only use a Next G phone on Optus network if I was nearly always located within a major metro / major regional area.

Google "Optus coverage". You will see from their maps that the Optus 3G (2100MHz) network is pretty much only available within these areas. For the other 99% of Australia (land-area wise) — good luck, you will only get 2G signal or nothing at all.

It's true though that these days most people spend their whole life in the city (or on the highway between one city and the next) so it wouldn't really matter for them.

  • nice price huhuhu, too bad im still on contract

can I wipe WinMo and install ICS?

    • From what I read, there was a way (according to someone), but it was tricky and no one posting had tried it. I was just looking at getting this phone or the Lumia 710 myself. Hmmm.

      • I would go for the Lumia 710, newer GPU and faster CPU (1.4 vs 1.0). Sure, the screen is smaller, but I would still lean towards the 710. Plus Nokia Drive is awesome :)

    • If you want Android, go grab a Desire HD from a Vodafone store for $199, similar specs to the HD7 except it's Android. I think HTC phones from Vodafone are free to unlock I think.

      • Desire HD for $199? Source please.

Until very recently I worked for Vodafone. It's on the pricing matrix - got a price drop a while back, but I was asked not to put any more deals on OzB. They're probably a little harder to get hold of than they were a week or two ago, but if you go into a store with no stock, they can look up stores which have them on their till.

        • In other words, by now there is no stock left. In any case, most stores weren't selling them at the time (read thread below) and you had to be really lucky to find one.

The last person that was lucky enough to find a store that had stock was more than 2 months go.

What's the point of saying "go grab a Desire HD from a Vodafone store for $199" when there's no proof they exist?

    • Not sure why he's being negged unless by WP7 diehards, it's a legitimate question. I doubt there is a significant xda community on ICS for HD7s. Better off grabbing a Galaxy Nexus for around $100 more with much better specs and without potentially buggering your phone with a dodgy rom.

      • Probably because it is Windows PHONE….

crap phone. would overheat using camera, and browsing net.

sometimes even just trying to make a call in a summer day…. would overheat…

stuck in an infinite loop till i pull.battery to let it cool down.

I have to disagree, after having had this phone personally for a while before going to Lumia 800. I had none of the issues which you are talking about.

    • +1

Can't say i have had that problem before. I've felt it get a bit hot playing games/videos but nothing too bad, certainly not overheating.

      • all my smart and stupid phones get/got a bit hot playing games/videos, or just googling, but nothing too bad, certainly not overheating;)

    • Whilst I agree that HTC seems to have some quality issues, I had a Mozart with the unlock issue. But I don't think its a reason to neg the deal. On the whole the price is decent and so is the handset.

    • My one has never had issues like that :/

Like Ashman, i have had one till upgrading to a Lumia 800 (needed 850mhz) and cant say i have ever had issues apart from getting abit warm when using it as an access-point :/ Which is normal these days for any phone…

    • I've been using one of these for 2 weeks now (hand me down from my son). It's my first smart phone and I'm finding it very good.

Haven't had any problems only disappointed about having to charge it up every day - which is the same with a lot of smart phones. My old phone would last 6 days - only used for phone calls though. I've been using this for podcasts, music, games and some browsing. Zune software is a bit of a PITA had to resubscribe to my podcasts as it doesn't let me drag and drop.

    • Did you uh…I dunno….get warranty service for the phone? Or you just trolling the forums for fun? And what does this have anything to do with the deal?

I have been given one of these for work - I don't like it as much as my GNexus, but it's a competent phone. I'm using it to tether right now and it not even the slightest bit warm

      Thanks for playing

  • Much preferred if it was running Vista OS.

    • win 3.1 is even better? or Dos will be the best?

  • Great price for a nextG compatible windows phone.
Be warned, however, as these phones are bulky, ugly, and have terrible battery life.
