  • Can someone advise an external reverse camera for cars that don't have it?

  • These are like $140 to $160 on Aliexpress.

    • Last time when one of these deals were posted another person said the same thing ended up with not comparing apple and apple. Do you have link for one of those?

        • Thank you. This one looks similar. We might need to ask manufacturer for more discount to compete with AliExpress deals.

@wrx5: OP, are you associated with carpuride ?

            • +1

@ShouldIBuyIt: No no. I am just same as other. I just bought their product and posted an item here after my purchase.

        • Thank you for the link, it is indeed similar. It seems it does not supports wireless Android Auto though

    • Do you have a link? I'm interested!

  • Anyway to connect this one to steering wheel controls? From the listing it doesn't seem like it - seems like it would be a bit annoying to use without changing volume / skipping songs from the steering wheel.

    • Somehow doubt it. It's simply an aux-in unit that plugs in to your radio's auxiliary connection. You'll still be able to use the volume/mute buttons inherent in your existing stereo but you won't be able to skip to the next track, pause, etc. through the buttons.

I would personally just use a phone mount onto the dash/windscreen and use that with the aux in instead.

      • You can't touch your phone while driving though. Also not really a big 7" screen for maps

I found out recently that you can in QLD use your phone if its in a holder and for nav or making calls and music.

          https://streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au/driver-distracti…

          • @Obake: Hands free bro.

You can’t touch it. Hopefully you didn’t misread that and have been telling everyone incorrect information lol

            • +2

@onlinepred: Handsfree means you can't hold the phone or have it on your lap. Doesn't mean you can't touch it. I'm not a rideshare driver, but I don't think they can do what they need without touching their phones.

              • @Obake: You are 100% correct. Sorry, I was the one that misread, thanks for clarifying!

          • @Obake: The wording is poor, but it definitely seems to indicate you can’t touch your phone while driving, even in a holder.

The checklist is more clear, saying:

“ Set your GPS, or playlist before leaving home”

    • I think this one is more like a tablet on the dash…. Android 7" tablet with usb reverse camera ?

    Please update description, thanks

  • Is this a sponsored post?

    • No. Originally I bought the wired version which I have used it around 5-6 months. At that time I asked the manufacturer if they have wireless version of it but wasn't available back then. I bought this wireless version when I saw they came up with it because I was happy with the wired version. I have installed the wired version to father's car.

I dunno if I see the point? My phone has a 6.7" screen with native android auto anyway. Need like 9" screen in a car imo.

  • Great. Now I have that Magic Carpetride song stuck in my head.

    • +1

Well, it’s a whole new world out there anyway.

      • +1

        Only for wolves steppen out.

  • My iPhone 13 pro looks better

    • Than a 7" screen… ok.

      • With an iPhone 13 Pro now at 6.1 inches and a Max at 6.7 inches, I'd happily use my phone over this screen, the biggest benefit i see from this is maybe it'll be easier for P platers to use Google Maps

        • Also no oled burn in on the phone that cost nearly $2k right?

Id only get it if it offered rear view camera input though. Also hate using my phone for gps and music, would much rather use a bigger screen and make it seem more integrated rather than a phone hanging off the window like an Uber driver or pizza delivery kids.

          • @onlinepred: Years of OLED iPhones, with hundreds hours of GPSing, and zero signs of burn in.

Nothing about this thing looks “integrated”.

            • @Mitch889: iPhone 12 drove from Adelaide to Brisbane, got burn in if google maps. Good times. More integrated than a phone hanging off a sucker hey.

              • @onlinepred: You need to get a vent mount so you have AC cooling for your phone, the risk of burn-in goes down massively if your phone isn't actually getting hot.

Nothing will ruin a phone quicker than using Google Maps and having sit in direct sun-lit with no cooling

    • HI Tim668, I was wondering how long it would take for postage to Melbourne and how long the device takes to boot up each time? TIA

      • Mine came within 2 weeks time.

It boots around 5-10 secs max

  • Hi there, does anyone knows if this screen is better than the wired ? I have the wired version - overall it is good but only complain i have is the screen is somewhat dim as compared to those build in headunits … not sure if there is a way to improve the lighting on it ?

  • How difficult is to install reverse camera ?

    • The hardest part was to run the camera cable from boot to front. Otherwise the rest was easy

      • but how to connect with reverse gear ? sorry…not at all technical in this regard

        • +1

It has 2 cables. One for power and another one for video feed.

Video feed cable needs to be connected to the screen in the front.

Power cable needs to be connected to the reverse lights. So when you put the gear to reverse, camera powers on. The devices recognizes that and switches to the camera mode to display camera feed.
