Mini HDMI Projector (LED Light Source, 240p LCD, 1080p Input Supported, 2W Speaker) $41.99 (Was $59.99) Shipped @ wellsome eBay

This one is currently the cheapest offer for a functional mini projector on eBay with the item location Australia only. Despite the not so high resolution of the built in LCD, there are surely some use cases where you can have fun with this little projector. For example if you use it with a retro game emulator. Or if you give it to your children, the projector is easy to use and doesn't require an external media player, since it can play video files directly from a micro SD card.

Can be used for dancing lights show off the ceiling.

I'm trying to thing of a use case for this, does anyone have one and can comment on what it's like?

flashing coloured lights on a wall for a party? 240p is pretty useless for consuming comment

Project a Christmas display on you house? As long as there are no street-lights nearby.

240p would have uses if it was brighter. "400 chinese lumens" is how many ANSI lumens?

      • It’s about 20 ANSI lumens.

you are a villain and the Scooby gang is after u and u need to project a low res image of a ghost to scare Shaggy

    • Watch movies on the ceiling whilst laying in bed?

      • At 240p it would be more suitable for pixelart.

        • How about Minecarft?

    • I’ve got one of these but it’s about 5-6yo. Think of the worst thing money could buy and then double it. It’s ok for the odd kids movie but you wouldn’t want to do anything serious with it lol. Has to be in an absolute black environment

Will accurately project your smartwatch screen in native resolution. (if you have a cheap smartwatch)

    • I had an idea once that would be perfect for this.

Kids books. I have nephews and when I read them a bedtime story it aggravates me how inefficient the whole process is. The whole idea behind it is you trick them into sleeping. They want to hear the story so they agree to lie down, not really intending to go to sleep, and then the low lights, rhythmic speaking and evocative language cause them to go to sleep.

Thats the theory anyway.. in practice you can't read in the dark, so you need the light on. Kids books have pictures, and of course the little squirts want to look at them which constantly pulls them back awake. Most of the time I sit next to them to make this easier, which means a) the lights in their face so they don't fall asleep, and b) when I get up to leave it disturbs them.

With a camera, a projector and a proper mounting system, I could read from the far corner of the room and project the images onto the ceiling. The image would be dim enough not to suppress melatonin production, yet still bright enough to see. You'd have to have blackout curtains though. This would have no chance otherwise at 7pm in summer with the light that leaks through.

  • Lmao. I have a old HP one that is still going strong, I think the max resolution is 800 x 600 SVGA max ha. Have a laser blu ray player plugged into it via component input to play stuff off usb. 240p may surprise you. But mine has 840 lumens. MicroSD card playback and portability is pretty damn good for the price

  • Useless in all of the sense of the word, will not be able to seen in anything but pitch black environment and will be blurry.

Was available for $21.99 with eBay Plus for ~5 days using the MARCH20 coupon and even at that price I didn't think it was worth mentioning given how terrible the specs are.

  • It doesn't seem like this projector has any redeeming features, even at it's price - it's too weak to show that projection, even if you were wanting to do a xmas decoration with it and you have cars going by / a street light near.

  • Why bother with HDMI?

    • +1

What do you suggest vga or composite cable?

      • +1

Twine should be able to do 240p?

        • +2

Fishing line looks like fibre optic cable. So better for future proofing i guess.

  • So shoud i get 1 of this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688842 or 29 of these Mini HDMI Projector.

    Asking for a friend.

      29 x mini projectors vs. 1 x 1080p projector
      Cost $1217.71 $1234.05
      No. Pixels 2,227,200 2,073,600
      Cost/million pixels $546.74 $595.12

29 x mini projectors is the clear winner here coming out 8.13% cheaper per pixel.

I would recommend your friend try to increase his/her budget very slightly and grab 30 instead for a 6x5 configuration at 320x240 each for a total resolution of 1920 x 1200.

  • I got gifted these. They are trash quality.

The only redeeming feature is that it can be recharged by a powerbank.

Too crappy for movies, too big to attach to a keyring.
