Which dual boiler you referring to?
breville dual boiler is the assumption, since there's a considerable price jump from the BDB to other dual boiler machines
Bugger! Bought the dark grey at previous sale for more $ than the sexier stainless.
Btw it makes great coffee. Better than the Saeco Via Venezia it replaced. Is this similar to the Oracle.
Similar in that it makes coffee.
But you already knew that, didn't you…
Great find! I'm weighting between Barista Pro & this. Which one has a better steam?
Also interested to know.
Is the Gaggia well regarded because of the extra mods, or is it on par without modifications? It is well regard because it is made in Italy and has many mod options amongst the enthusiasts. But without mods the Barista Pro is a better overall machine IMO.
This has way better Steam.
Doesn't ship to Tasmania :(
RIP
Hmmz sold out already?
This will last forever, will not allow for a tall mug, will need mods and a loong time to heat up but will produce an excellent cuppa in the right hands….in short this is for someone who knows what they are doing but cannot afford better gear. If you have no idea about gear buy a Breville Bambino plus from Tgg commercial ..cant be beat in terms of value and will not last ..but has everything built in..no mods..very good cuppa right OOB if paired with a good grinder and decent beans ..BUT will not last as long as as this
bambino plus is no longer a bargain… its up to 500 now even on tgg commercial
Takes 15 minutes to heat the boiler to a stable temperature, which is pretty standard for any espresso machine with a boiler. Some take longer.
Yes, it's quicker than the Silvia.
Do you mean for the milk? Takes around 2 minutes to heatup (or until the red light comes on). I've noticed after 15 minutes it has far more frothing power though, but not necessary.
For the shot if you wait 15min and still temp surf it comes out bitter from my experience. Gaggia instructions say to preheat the group head, load the coffee then pull shot instantly ie don't leave the ground coffee sitting in the machine too long. The pro has a steel group head and the technique is apparently different to the older gaggia classics.
Your description above seems a little all over the place.
There are some great videos about mastering the gaggia classic on YT, including detail on some very worthwhile upgrades. You may wish to check a few out.
@fookos: What an incredibly condescending reply I've watched the videos. Hoffman, whole latte love etc and others before I made my purchase.
None of them mention waiting 15 minutes and refer to essentially all the points I've made above. You're also probably unaware the pro has 2 holes in the steam wand.. 15 minutes is absurd and unnecessary
Do you even own one? I make 4-6 cups a day with mine
@Jimmy77: Sorry mate but I’m just trying to be helpful. Your response was unclear but glad you’ve found those resources.
Most boiler espresso machines take at least 15 minutes to reach thermal mass and you should wait until pulling your first shot (after switching it on).
In the comment, above Shaidas mentioned the machine takes a long time to heat up from off. That is what I was commenting on. Nothing to do with steam time.
Have installed a PID, done the OPV mod and switched a single hole steam tip which gives better results than the one it ships with IMO.
No need to neg. Didn’t mean to offend.
Enjoy your Gaggia. It’s a very capable machine.
Not any more, BB+ not worth $500 (that's on TGGC)
I recently got this gift and it have a love/hate relationship with. There's heaps of aftermarket parts for it and there's a big community of passionate people on facebook. It's a frustraing learning curve to brew the right espresso but very rewarding.
You will definitely need to invest in a good grinder and watch as much youtube tutorials.
Can also get the Rancillio Sylvia for the same price at the moment, similar machine but the steamer is much better
from where? Didn't show up on ebay
The listing I was looking at is already sold sorry and it and was quite abit more expensive ~700, best price I can see now is 880 .. my bad
thanks for checking. managed to pick up the gaggia. hopefully will treat me well for the next 5-10 years.
been quite happy with the ease and quickness of the aeropress, but maybe time for an upgrade to the coffee experience.
700 is not the same as 500..
Industrial grey was $499 with afterpay + new user coupon a week or so ago on their website, but I'd much rather have stainless steel.
Unfortunately I went with Breville so, I'll be needing a new machine within 3 years.
I’m waiting for a sale on the black version - anyone seen it on sale anywhere?
Love this machine, definitely recommend. Its worth mentioning that if you're looking to make multiple cups at once and steam a fair bit of milk, there are better dual boiler options available, but for most people this machine will do the trick.
