Especially good for overseas flights, boat-shaped respirators, such as KF94 masks, are found by many people to be more comfortable and fit better than other styles

These ones have been tested by Lloyd Armbrust, Aaron Collins, and CBC to be amongst the best, with results including 99.2-99.9% filtration efficiency

Good Manner size guide

Why should you wear a mask?

As such, it's worthwhile upgrading your mask to a respirator – besides better filtering:

  • More comfortable, breathable, lightweight, fit better:
  • Doesn't touch lips, easier and clearer to talk through
  • Doesn't fog up glasses

Reuse them by rotating daily between a few (4-5, maybe 7) – after wearing, hang up or air-dry each in separate paper bags or breathable containers

+1 for content and number of links!

  • Enlighten me: how many individual links are there?

40 - how many have you checked? :)

  • Shipping cost more than the mask itself. Is the website legit? It's not secure.

Wow I’ve never seen a post with so many links.

Also Benehal N95 mask which is NIOSH approved is selling at Sydney tools.
    - 20pc for $18.
    - they have physical stores where you can pick up so no shipping.
    - these masks are headloops which are better than earloops (eg the good manner kf94s) for creating a good fit and seal

boat-shape masks are actually considered to generally have a better fit/seal than bi-fold ones, and earloops are more versatile/convenient than headstraps, especially on overseas flights :)

Yeah sure the earloop boat-style is better fitting for most adults than an earloop vertical flat fold all else equal. But that's not the comparison I'm drawing.

I'm putting it head to head with a NIOSH N95 headloop and it's not obvious that the Good Manner KF94 earloop would have superior fit test pass rates for a range of face shapes than the NIOSH-approved N95 Benehal with headloops that are adjustible at that. If you're heart is set on earloop KF94s, to have the best chance of getting a good fit, you should get the ones with adjustible earloops

Ultimately, only testing and data will tell, but my money is on the adjustible headloop N95 over the Good Manner KF94.

earloops are more versatile/convenient than headstraps, especially on overseas flights

For an overseas flight I would prefer a headloops as they would not put pressure on the ears. Why? To fit well the straps generally need to be tight, but if the straps are earloops AND tight, it's going to hurt your ears on a long haul flight.

mask shape is more important than fastening type

boat-shape with headstraps, such as 3M Aura, is likely better than one with earloops, but using ear-savers with the latter would improve it

bi-fold with headstraps, such as the Benehal, is unlikely to be better than a boat-shape with earloops, especially using ear-savers

If you're heart is set on earloop KF94s, to have the best chance of getting a good fit, you should get the ones with adjustible earloops

+1 adjustable earloops are of course better than non-adjustable ones

i haven't had an issue with wearing earloops for hours, but ear-savers would help those otherwise - much easier to put-on/take-off earloops than headstraps for eating/drinking :)

Where is the evidence for this? Is there a study like this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8289716/ that pits those two designs against each other? If there is I'd like to see it.

i haven't had an issue with wearing earloops for hours

From reading this study then https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8289716/ there's a strong risk that you're not getting a good fit. Without a quantitative fit test, you'd never know for sure, but the study points in that direction.

but ear-savers would help those otherwise

Tried them. They convert the pressure applying behind the ears to downward pressure over the ears.

don't know if there's been any such study or comparison, but from first principles:

              1. determine best mask shape that fits face, then
              2. determine best fastening type that maintains seal

poor shape choice could require unnecessarily uncomfortable fastening to compensate than otherwise

Tried them. They convert the pressure applying behind the ears to downward pressure over the ears.

similar to headstraps, aren't they meant to make earloops bypass and go around the ears, pulling them behind the head, rather than over them?

Got KN95 masks 5 for $2 at Bunnings. Instant local pick up.

$55 for a pack of no name masks from an unknown overseas seller in a foreign currency with lengthy delivery kind of pales in comparison..

Edit: holy shit 44 cookies blocked and an unsecure connection as I click to see if these masks actually meet any standards. Item reviews 5/5 from 93 reviews, once you click it's actually only 2.5 stars. Seems to hide the unfavorable reviews.

Sorry, but that's a neg. Things aren't looking great here.

Not bothering to get into this massive mask debate. We've been living with COVID for 2 years now.

Btw haven't bothered to read your replies or post in full because being succinct is clearly not a strong point of yours unlike fearmongering.

thanks, that explains the discrepancy - you're using their mobile not desktop site

unfortunately and meaninglessly, it seems that on mobile, listings by any seller will show 5/5-stars then 2.5-stars for reviews

on desktop, you can see premium/written reviews and ratings-only ones, with no stars anywhere

Gmarket is owned by eBay for anyone curious. These masks are pretty highly rated if you do your research, it's a good deal if you're stocking up.

    • So basically these could be fakes on Korean "eBay" that a marketplace seller is trying to flog.

No doubt there's credit to the actual mask but a) expensive and b) 2.5/5 means 50% dissatisfied?

      • 97 reviews comprising 11 premium/written and 86 ratings-only - where did you find 2.5 stars?

do any of the reviews claim that they were fakes?

the listings have 5-bar customer ratings, and the seller has badges for customer satisfaction excellence and being a power seller

        how are they expensive?

        • do any of the reviews claim that they were fakes?

Well some have got "item quality: bad" so I'd assume that's not good.

Can't read Korean but don't see any of that. All I see is the seller selling the exact same mask at different prices. Now why would they be doing that?

Dude you don't have to take it so personally. I'm just explaining my experience on the site for other Ozbargainers. You're not associated (hopefully) so you stand to lose nothing?

End up buying 250 masks for 151,000 KRW inc. shipping. This is after the revised shipping fee for 4kg package. So AUD$166 or 67c/mask. Not bad at all. Shipped by DHL.

I purchased the Super Class KF94 Black color.

    • Hi, just wondering how do you pay to Gmarket as I tried to check out with both my master card and Paypal and both have been rejected for some reason, anyone else has this problem?

      • I didn't have any problems paying by MasterCard.

      • I chose to pay in KRW and using Mastercard Debit Card. No problem at all. Better call your bank to see why it was rejected.

        • I couldn't even select KRW as a currency option?

  • Thanks for sharing!

Definitely a lot more effort buying this way but it is cheaper - I can see why there are more votes on your Clean & Science Amazon post.
There was a small shipping fee from Gmarket to South Korea (Buyandship warehouse), I couldn't find a way around this (I assume this is because 50 masks doesn't make the threshhold for free shipping).

sorry, they seem to have added minimum order of ₩50,000 as a condition for free local delivery - what was the fee?

Just got my masks from this deal. Great masks, so very happy with them. Only thing I'll say is that the ear loops are a bit loose. Granted they certainly won't be causing my pain like the KN95s I've been using but I may need to tighten them a bit as in the video you posted from Aaron Collins.

Definitely more work with the forwarder than just buying local but I have more than enough to last me now so I'm not going to complain.

    Thanks OP!

    • ear loops are a bit loose

Mine are waiting for me to be picked up from the courier and to be honest the thing I'm mostly looking for in an ear loop face mask these days is less ear pain. So it'll be interesting to see how these sit on my face.

      • +1

I think you will like these. Night and day compared to my KN95s. That is, assuming you got the large size. I can get a good deal with them as they are but it's a bit fiddly. Tightening the loops a bit would probably help.

        • Yeah I got large and have a very large face haha. So I think they will probably go alright.

        • Bit of a late reply but yeah these fit the bill for me. I have a very large head and these are juuuust big enough for me, wouldn't want them any smaller. So the 'loose' ear loops are actually just right, and nice and soft to stop the cutting on my ears from daily use at work.

Also super happy with the smell. These smell sweet but not perfumed, don't know how they managed that. After the cutting feeling, the second worst thing about wearing face masks all day is the smell. Every other face mask I've worn has had that strange faint farmyard chemical / stale saliva smell to them. These are so pleasant. Very happy with my purchase. Wish I'd bought them sooner!

  • Bit late the party but just ordered some OP. Thanks so much!

I went a bit overboard and got 200 masks.. shipping was 80,410 KRW via DHL. As I'm running low I decided to avoid the freight forwarder service, but probably could've saved a few bucks if I did. Oh well.

    • Out of curiousity, how long did it take from order until delivery?

      • Hey sorry for the late reply.

        Ordered 21 July
        Delivered 28 July.
