  • Thanks OP!
For anyone’s interest use PLSMAR5 for 5% off on eBay up to 100$ off.
    Not sure if targeted.

  • +1

great price for that K8 - alum frame, hot swap , brown switches - ebay link with PLSMAR5 is $87.88 delivered!

    • +3

I wouldn't say its a alum frame, its more like a aluminum covered frame when the frame itself is actually plastic.

      • so the extra cash for the aluminum frame isn't worth it?

        • Personally I like the look of the frame. Besides, you can just take the frame off whenever you don’t want it which gives u two options whereas if you get the plastic version you can’t put a frame on it in the future

          • +1

@Justahappymortal: +1 with this, but my main point is the acoustic effects of aluminum in a real case would sound better than plastic.

      • More like an aluminium bezel. Plastic case on bottom. Looks like every store is trying to sell off their keychron stock at the moment. At least this one is hot swap

    • +2

Seems to be about the new standard price for there. See this deal at $89.95 a month ago and a couple of deals since then.

    • How did you get it for 87.88 delivered with the code? The brown switch is $119 and with the code minus $5.95 makes it $113.05

      • +1

        Price was $94.5 yesterday

        • Thanks for the info…that's a shame 87.88 was a really good price

          • +1

@shortie84: Ikr. Missed out the deal. I should've placed order yesterday

  • are brown keys the quietest ones?

    • +1
      • +3

They're not too much different in practice.

        • +4

I'd argue any reduction in switch noises from the Reds are balanced out by being more likely to bottom out aince they're light linears. So they're about the same.

      • +2

Browns are silent unless the user bottoms the keys out, which is very common amongst new users of mechanical keyboards.

Blues have a loud "click" whenever you actuate a switch, which is what makes them unconditionally noisy.

Reds are as silent as browns.

    • That'll be red switches

    • +1

If you're not averse to spending a bit more money, should be able to swap the default switches with Zilent, Aliaz Silent or similar tactile-but-silent switches.

… or you know any of the gajillion Cherry MX compatible switches e.g. https://kbdfans.com/collections/switches

That's the whole point of getting a hot-swappable keyboard - you can put whatever switches you want in it.

      • +3

I am averse to spending extra moneys on a $100 keyboard.

        • +1

Right .. then. it doesn't really matter if you get brown or red switches (noise-wise)

There are a couple of types of noise that a keyboard generates:
          1. The noise of the switch itself - e.g. blue switches have an audible click
          2. Bottom-out noise - i.e. when you slam the key down all the way and it hits bottom when typing.
          3. Release noise - i.e. when you release the key, and it makes a noise when it stops on the way up.

Brown and Red switches don't make the audible click, but the bottom-out and release noises will still be there. The only way to mitigate that is to swap the switches for quieter ones (or use o-rings or do a trampoline mod which is a lot of effort).

          • @qwijibo: thanks for that info.

after I receive the board, I'll come back to your post if the clickety clack drives me crazy

            • +1

@andresampras: You won't hear it but everyone else will! You get used to it

            • +1

@andresampras: most of the time loud keys are an annoyance to other people around you. the person actually using the keyboard is usually less likely to be annoyed the the sound s/he makes.

but if you are recording YouTube videos or video conferencing that might be a slightly different equation

    • +1

red is quietest, linear, no bump.

brown is tactile, feel a slight bump.

blue is clicky tactile, loud, bump, no one likes you.

  • That's an awesome price for a great keyboard.

    • K8 is a good keyboard, lets not get carried away, lol.

now the Q3 TKL that is coming out is going to be a GREAT keyboard.

  • Got a deal for the K8 with linear switches? (Does it come with linears?)

    • +2

no, this is tactile. it is hot swappable, so you can swith it with some gat black ink v2, tangies, durock pom, gold caps, milk yellows, tealious, creams, alpacas, etc…

      • +1

…is this dude trying to sell us drugs?

      • I understand that, sorry I worded my question poorly. I meant same keyboard with different switches. :D

  • Do people use these with some sort of full-length gel padding along the front o fthe keyboard?

    Looks very high

    • I haven't had any issues with mine, but have heard of people getting wrist rests for this keyboard. Think a wooden one is normal.

      • +1

haha ht sell the wooden wrist rests too - at almost half the price of the keyboard itself.

        • Would definitely not recommend buying it from them. It's the PR3 for the K8 which is $29 on Amazon. I'm still contemplating purchasing it.

    • i use the keychron wood wrist rest

    • It is unusually high indeed.

  • +4

Not sure why, but I just bought one…it's one of those days. Maybe it's the friggin nonstop rain.

    Thanks OP

  • +2

@htdealadmin can you put the same price for the blue switch? thanks

    • +2

Yes please interested in blue switch too thanks!

    • +2

Currently got a brown switch - although different keyboard so want something clicky. A deal for blue and yeah, I would buy it. This is a nice keyboard with nice LEDs.

      • -1

Why would you want that? Wwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

        :D

        • +3

          I WANT DA NOISE

    • +1

      ewww

its also hot swappable, so you can buy those annoying loud and scratchy blue switches and change them. lol

i pray for those peoples souls around you when you use your keyboard at 100wpm.

  • thoughts on the K8 brown?

I have a cooler master with cherryMX Blue switches and annoyed by the loudness of it, need something half way.

    • Then you'd really enjoy brown, half way it is

    • brown is the way to go, then later you will move into linears.

      • This is the truth. I went from linears to tactile to clicky, found I didn't like any of them no matter how many different switch types I've tried, then went back to linear. I do love a clicky Esc key with a big keycap though. It's just pleasant to smack it.

  • Anyone have any experience with the dashcam? Looking at getting either a front and rear or two of the same and place front and rear.
Had a very close call last week and I think it's about time I get one.
I don't want cheap and nasty but also don't want to spend a fortune on one.

    • Yeah I have one of these and for the money it is quite good. 1080p quality though only goes so far but for the price it is much better than the super cheap equivalent

  • pretty great keyboard, good price, a bit annoyed that it is cheaper now than it was on kickstarter

  • OOS?

    • eBay is. Amazon is still there.

  • +2

    Must… resist… purchasing another keyboard.

  • Is the k8 worth getting with the k8 pro around the corner?

    • +1

Those pro keys look retro cool!

    • Thanks for the heads up, might be worth seeing how much the KS is vs this in AU.

  • Bought a Keychron, thanks OP

  • no numpad, wouldnt that be bit annoying esp if doing numbers work..? anyone with experience/insights?

    • +6

If you need a numpad, don't get a tenkeyless keyboard.

      • LogicMan strikes again.

  • What's the latency like when using this keyboard wireless? Is the Bluetooth too unreliable for gaming?

  • Still waiting on the K4 to go on sale to take to work - Got the Tecware Phantom full size previously, but not sure I am into it.

  • Looks like it's sold out on Amazon too…link doesnt work anymore when Adding to Cart

  • I know the eBay Keychron is already out of stock, but what's the difference of this offer with this one?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185137375001

What does the "H3" stand for? Thanks!

    • +1

H3 means it has Brown switches. So essentially it looks to be the same item as the deal posted.

    • +1

H3 non alum frame i think

    • +1

      Frame: ABS Frame

      Plastic frame

      • Thanks! First time buyer of a mechanical keyboard so I'm on the search for a good one
