Review online is generally good. CPU is abit old and it is replaced by the ROG Phone 5, but phone 5 does cost twice as much.

  • Is this a gaming phone.

      Yes. It has RGB?

      • -3

No, ROG specifically refers to Rubbish On Games. It's good for phone calls and texting.

        • Wow disrespect - he's clearly kidding…

@eddyah: Sadly there's no bargains for a sense of humour on here.

Bought this phone in 2020(tencent vers.) and still using.
It's heavy and a silicone bumper case has been a blessing.
I removed the screen protector and this has helped with the fingerprint scanner on screen.
I run auto refresh rate which hangs around 60 to 90 and is fine.
Phone has been great and I mainly bought it due to the battery.

If you are finding that some apps are not receiving messages or you are not receiving emails right away, its usually that the app has been optimized for the battery and needs to be turned off.

So great phone, take off screen protector and turn some optimization off for certain apps.

great phone, take off screen protector

I literally smash every screen protector I have by dropping phone because I'm a ditzy klutz.

The one time I didn't use one I smashed the phone instead.

Homie if this is your store you need to mark yourself associated. Creating an account a few days ago with no prior activity is kinda sussy

  • used to have this phone, bulky but the battery and speakers are #1 even in 2022.

$750 is what this phone could be worth as a normal price now, no way it is worth this "refurbed".

  • I use one and its great for games and most other things. Disagree on speaker/sound quality however. My old ZTE Axon 7 was FAR superior in sound to the ROG 3 Phone.

  • I’ve seen these new for around $550 in the past on Banggood probably the Tencent version. Can’t comment on it though as I only have the ROG PHONE 5 Ultimate and the ROG PHONE 5S PRO.

    • INB4 "but the Chinese government spies on Tencent users" as the Australian government spies on every device the twits own while allowing the US to alter their messages without telling them.

      • I was wondering which phone with a processor descended from a U.K ARM chip running a kernel written by a Finnish developer using a U.S. open source editor that ran on Unix, supported by US and Chinese ancillary chipset assembled in China, Korea or Taiwan, would be the best to use for privacy - and how to make it work without letting my provider know where I am.

His Noodly Appendage forbid that the baddies can have the same access a Pizza chain app wanted yesterday when a guest wanted to add it to his phone…

        • A smartphone runs Android or iOS so there is no way out. Even if you elected to let an iOS device not to install iOS update for years, eventually it will reach a point where Apple refuses to let you boot to home screen unless you upgrade the iOS. Find my iPhone and find my Android phone, it is possible to remotely disable a phone.

Your ISP and mobile phone provider know which sites you've been to. Sure, those chipsets could spy on you on top of that via firmware. However, it is just so much easier to do so on the software level.

Regrettably, regular OZBers aren't really worth spying on. However, they know what we've been doing.

      • I think a more practical issue could be the Tencent version may lack Google apps, and/or might have more bloatware.

Spying… well, if you really want to think about it, OZB does at least analytics on us. Obviously, 'only' to ensure no dodgy voting (vote for friends) or not ticking being associated.

  • I bought one, and while I overall like it - The screen is really, really bad for watching media. Why? The BLACK CRUSH is awful. Watch any dark scenes and you'll struggle to make out anything. Even using it in the sun on full brightness is really not ideal compared to even cheap samsungs.

Also: The back is glass, which makes the whole thing unbelievably slippery. That means you need to buy a screen protector, and a case and put it in there BEFORE you start using it. Otherwise you'll put it on a table and gawk as it slides off the edge like a bar of wet soap …

Edit: The one I got also had the back glass panel off-centre by a couple mm. Aside from feeling annoying in the hand, the notification LED on the back didn't work unless you held it. Had to fix that myself, given that I couldn't be without my phone while shipping it back and forth …

    • Yep. I'm on my 3rd screen for the ROG II. The only decent case I've found for ROG phones is from a company called Poetic on Amazon.
Other companies make okay cases but the screen is always vulnerable to the flat drop.

The ROG 5 got the fingerprint failure bug & is off for a warranty repair before I'd had a chance to smash the screen, which is either good or bad. I haven't worked out which yet.
