I wish we had an android app for this!

    • -2

      I like illegal apps too…. ;)

  • +1

Wow this works super well! I somehow feel like it's not supposed to be this easy? How are they doing this when you have to pay for TV licenses in your home in the UK?

    • +12

Well, it's a gift from the Queen to Australia for being such a good constitutional monarchy - that or it exploits some legal loophole. Still it's kinda funny that legally suspect apps/services (like Napster) always show the way as far as ease of use goes - I hope the big corporates learn a lesson or two.

  • Pretty sure this is illegal and will be pulled in no time.

That said, its unlikely you will get in trouble for using it.

    • +1

      yeah pretty concern about it!

      • +1

doesnt apple vet all apps before they go up on itunes?

        • well when Apple realize that they made a mistake, they could take it off any time(I think)… and we lose our money. Anyway 0.99 not a lot of money :D. It worth to try.
I also concern when it become popular how it perform :D still good or start to freeze.

        • Yes they do. But the process is sloppy, somewhat.

        • The Apple vetting process usually only censors potential pornographic material (boo!) while letting all sorts of pirated (Pokemon Yellwo) or questionable crap through (like Beautiful Witches on iOS)

  • freakin awesome, i am watching planet of the apes!

if they do pull it, can we buy this service legally?

  • +3

Definitely illegal but it is apples problem for allowing it through the app store.

I bought the app. Seems very buggy and alot of the channels just freeze.

    • completely flawed logic.

"Hey man, I bought something I knew was illegal, but if they weren't selling it, I wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to buy it, so it's their fault."

People caught stealing Pay TV also get prosecuted as well as the operation running it. Don't expect to get a knock on the door from the police about it, but at the same time if you do, don't try and use that as an excuse.

  • +7

thats not the uk flag in the thumbnail now is it? …..

  • -5

Why pay for something illegal and going to be pulled. If it were just the free channels that stream on the broadcasters websites fine, but that list has plenty of Sky exclusive pay channels?

    • +7

Just FYI even if Apple pulls the app - if you've purchased it earlier, it will continue to be available/run on your iDevice. For example, the VLC official iOS app was pulled but I still have it - and as long as you sync it with your desktop's iTunes you can transfer it between devices. Now, as for the content being available post the app being pulled, that I can't say.

      • And the streams go dead and it becomes totally useless. It's just not worth even 99 cents for pirate shit.

    • +1

Looks like another scammer is going to make the millionaire list thanks in part to ozbargain!
$0.99 is not a lot to chance for an app that works for a short period before Apple pulls it, but at volume it translates to mega bucks.

  • It.. Works :P

Amazing how they got this through Apple (for now, of course!)

    • +1

      A fair few doesn't work though :(

But many do work as well.

  • +1

It works but the play back is very choppy.

  • +5

Oky, seems like the app is sourcing it's content from http://futuboxhd.com/ - which does indeed sell subscriptions for €14.95/month or €95.95/year. Now, I've never heard of Futubox (http://www.futubox.com/) before - so I donno how legit or good they are, but at least there seems to be some backstory.

    • anyone found if futuboxhd is legal? and can it be watched in aus without a VPN?

  • -4

Meh, I have UKTV on Foxtel (which is now basically a BBC affiliate). If it was US FOX/NBC/CBS, HBO, etc. I might be interested.

    • +3

      lolfox

  • +2

    Crashing on iPhone 4S

  • +2

Can't get past loading channels on the new iPad. It just closes the app.

  • +1

Had to reset the ipad for it to work. But now it works great. Very happy UK TV for 99c

Does have the odd buffering issues.

  • +2

    Not all channels work.

  • Does this use a lot of GB?

I wonder if it's going to blow my monthly allowance!

    • +1

I would be very careful if you are using this app on 3g only. It will definitely chew your data allowance. Its prolly best to use on wifi only to avoid any bill/credit shock :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Bought it and it works on my 3GS. Watching family guy now on the bus using my wireless 3G modem.

    • +1

Hope you've got a big data plan

      • Yap. Just watched for 2 mins to see if it works. Will continue when I reach home.

  • -3

Can't believe this illegal app is allowed to post here. You are just paying to some scammers. It will probably work for a week or two of even if apple do not pull this app. Then the scammers will pull the plug, put a new skin, give it a new name and suck your money once more.

    • +2

While I don't know if its a scammer - it does seem that its dependent on the subscription being paid as per orktane post. So the thought did pop up that there was some reliance that the developer would continue with it after app purchases slowed down.

Given that the app is new since 20.04.12 - you might have a point. I see the developer has 2 german version that started in 30.03.12

      Edit:

Bit suspect - in App store it says price has been reduced from $3.99 - its never been that price! The german HD app is only $1.99 and other one is $0.99

    • +5

I don't understand why you guys love to neg people who warn you that your 99 cents app will only last a few days.

Some more discussion on this here:
      http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056614709

This app developer is making a big money. I bet he paid €14.95 for Futubox and start making money after 20 people bought the app. Yes it will work until Futubox ban his account, left us an useless app and half a million dollars in his account.
I think I should start to write an Android App like this now. I can probably pay my mortgage in 1 day!

      • +1

I agree that you shouldn't be neg for posting your views and effectively providing a warning for people to think about before spending their dollar. As to what reason they negged you - that is the great mystery of ozbargain 99% of the times and really not worth worrying about.

I agree your concerns are valid - I may look at this app in a months time and see what is happening with it, but won't be getting it now.

      • I don't understand why you guys love to neg people who warn you that your 99 cents app will only last a few days

Because….. when you add a neg to your warning, it makes it less likely that the post will be seen by the majority of members…. People who neg your comment enough to remove your neg vote are actually doing us all a favour by trying to keep the post, (and your information), visible.

        • what? By negging the comment you remove the post from sight if you aren't logged on or its lightened if your are. In some cases with enough negs, the mods will even delete the comment.

I personally go to the negs to see what the issue is and consider them appropriately.

        • I personally go to the negs to see what the issue is

If the post has enough negs, the whole thing disappears….

        • @ andy19363 But in this case there are only 2…well now 3.

Look at how many negs the DSE "sale" got and kept going.

        • Indeed…. a lot depends on the amount of positives….

      • +2

sweet, let us know the link to the android app once you have made it, cheers.

      • -2

calm down it's only .99 cents no warning needed.

    • I agree the app is legally suspect, but here is the thing, last time I had the same qualms about a similar service called FilmOn (http://www.filmon.com/tv/htmlmain/), it went from being a web-app only to a full-fledged iOS app (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id465127107). Also, likewise FilmOn earlier was broadcasting many of the same BBC, iTV, and other channels from the U.K. under the argument that it was place-shifting the content. Now, unlike this app (currently), FilmOn did have a subscription model and was backed by a maniacal billionaire (see him here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqdUMievqvw) - so strange things have happened before, and so here I'm just highlighting a presumably a legal bargain made available (implicitly at least) by the largest corporation in the world.

  • if it had the Sky F1 HD channel then i would think about it :)

  • +2

bought. i would've loved Sky F1 after 10's crap broadcast!

    • You get more channels after leaving a 5 star review, what are the other channels? Sky F1?

    • +2

10/One has the worst broadcast ever!

    • -1

Agreed. One was set up as a dedicated sports channel. Last night One chose to show some B-grade movie rather than the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix live. Channel 10 was used to show the race, but it was 30 minutes delayed here and shown in SD (really makes a difference). Tapping into real live sport would be nice.

  • Seems to work for a few channels I tested. Some do crash. You need a good internet connection for this, it buffers a lot.

  • +1

Don't buy. Most channels I just get futubox advertisement. Only couple of channels work

    family guy worked though

  • +1

You know something is dodgy when they have the WRONG flag as the background! I still downloaded but may well regret

  • +2

Futubox probably offers some seven day trial for any given IP address, or something, so the app stops working after you've told everyone how good it is.

  • +8

I just tried 10 of the 36 channels at random (i.e. excluding the 'testing' ones) and …

… EVERY channel worked PERFECTLY (on wifi/adsl2) on my iPad1.

For 99cents, for me, even if they pull the program delivery right now, it was worth a glimpse at how TV should be delivered - and would be delivered if it wasn't for the moneymen at the TV stations, program providers etc (the 1%) screwing it up for the rest of us (the 99%) because they can't organise a service this good and get their fat cheques.

Finally, surely its not for us - the downtrodden masses - to decide wether this is legal - it continues to amaze me how some will spring to the defence of the very corporations who are only too ready to screw them! (not that I would include the BBC in that category).

This could be my favourite app (ahead of TuneIn).

    • +1

… and if you want to neg me may I request you don't do it anonymously and give a reason (for the same reasons that you can't do it anonymously for a bargain) - I welcome feedback! :)

    • -1

      Im negging you.

It's clearly not legal what is going on, and I think everyone who buys this app is going to be absolutely aware of this. What you really need to do is just say:

"Yes I am downloading an illegal app for 99 cents, no I don't care that it is illegal. I think content is too expensive, and as a result I am going to get it for free which legally is theft."

I'm not defending the corporations, but shit… they pay the people who write it, they pay the people who act in it, they pay the make up artists, the camera men, the extras… they produce it… they market it… they get to decide what they charge, if you don't like what they charge, then don't buy it?

I don't watch the majority of stuff because I don't want to pay the prices. I am not arrogant enough to say I have the right to watch it for the price i determine it is worth, the same reason I don't go to an art gallery and walk out with million dollar paintings and hand them $20 for the trouble, just because I feel entitled to have my own copy of them for a price I am comfortable with.

      • +1

… and I'm negging you, but very much appreciate you spelling out your argument :)

Apple, Adobe, Canon, Lenovo, Microsoft, Penguin Books and many other multinationals, as well as homegrown companies like Telstra, Foxtel and the banks, have been ripping off Australian consumers forever and a day simply because they can - often there is no real alternative to their products. Usually what they do is "legal" but it is also a hell of a lot worse than downloading an app for 99c. (And if we want to try and take the "high ground" and talk about the law, all these companies will have been taken to court and found to have acted illegally.) The fact that they employ people doesn't make it right that we are overcharged.

        • -1

so pretty much your argument is that the prices are too high and that justifies getting it without paying for it?

I don't understand why you would neg me for agreeing with my point, but each to their own.

  • Are these the same chanels available through the BBC iplayer app?

  • I bought it and tried it on iPad new using Wireless.
It works, but buffers about every 30 seconds - it pauses to catch up, then resumes.

    Probably my internet connection (iinet)?

  • Did anyone get more channels for writing a review?

  • wish there were apps for my PC.
have not gone smart phone yet.

  • +1

    DON'T BUY!!!!

All HD channels aren't working anymore. Only those free to air still functioning.

    • Personally I think its more than worth it just for the free-to-air, however I suspect it will become defunct too soon! :(

  • Can't get pass "Loading channels", I'm on Telstra's cable internet, so speed should be no issue?

    • I'm on Optus ADSL2 (i.e. much slower than cable) & its working fine for me. Telstra would hate this app though! :)

      • Weird, maybe Telstra is blocking this app :(

Oh well, only wasted $1 so no big deal.

  • All the best channels, (sky sports) are not listed on the official app info page. do you need to review in order to get sports and movies?

    • You can click to review, but I don't think you actually have to review as there is no way for app knowing if you left review and how many stars you gave (I might be wrong though).

  • btw its 1am in the morning now in the UK so I guess the overall quality/popularity of the programs may not be as good now as when more people are watching.

  • +1

I've asked for refund from Apple, this app is a scam anyway.

  • -1

Funny. A quick google of the developer's name "Ghrhchori" reveals 84 entries (duplicates omitted), every single one of 'em relating to this app & the german version, i.e. there isn't anyone else in the world with this name :)

  • For anyone interested in watching Sky sports live and free go to mypremium.tv.

  • As long as it keeps working until the next Big Brother starts. EXCITED!!!!

  • -1

    Thanks :D

  • works for me over 3g

  • if it is fraud easy refund from apple

  • I know its only 99c, but do you get a refund if it stops work/gets taken down?

  • +1

The app is completely illegal, doesn't work for shit & is getting pulled in less than 24hrs. Anyone stupid enough to pay for this is pissing their money up a wall & all but making a donation to a scammer.

How is this post even allowed here?

    • What is the part that is illegal? It seems that its the same as netflix where you can use it in Australia by using a VPN and that is not illegal (you are violating terms of use though).

      • +1

Most people interchange: illegal, unlawful, breach of contract etc as being one and the same thing. While they are not, its a fine point to base one's argument on.

Maybe he has used the term illegal in the context of a scam which would come under fraud provisions. If that's the case, then indeed it is illegal.

Maybe he used it in the context of the app distributing copyright material, once again this would be illegal.

        • +1

Maybe he'd make a good replacement Speaker for Parliament

  • +1

am thinking those companies can actually go after the people who paid for the app, because they illegally watched those channels?

  • +1

Apparently, it has stopped working from the comments of nbn: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056614709… lol

Whoops, sorry, i meant the thread posted by nbn*

  • Is it just me or is it really laggy?

    • working. 3g ok. not adsl wifi.

  • -1

All those people worried about it being a scam you do realise it is only $0.99, Those concerned about loosing there $0.99 for this scam just request a refund from apple when it gets pulled. For now it works very well.

    pretty simple.

  • Tried everything (restarting, hard reset, delete app & re-install) and I can't get it to work. Whenever I tap a channel it just highlights in yellow then nothing, unless it's offline which gives me a pop up "x is currently offline".

    • The "testing" channels don't work on my ipad 2. The rest work just fine.

    • Alright it works now, had to turn off wifi weirdly enough…

  • +1

DO NOT BUY THIS APP! clearly does not work, I'm on telstra wifi and none of the channels load, it hangs there forever, I'm starting to find fishy most posts on ozb and that apps review are genuine or not.

    • +1

      clearly does not work

      for you….

    • +1

      Works fine for me

    • Works fine with Telstra on both ADSL and 3G.
I was surprised that the speed was quite good with 3G.

    • Works fine on iPhone 4 both wifi (FritzBox) and Telstra 3G, but iPad is only working through the personal Hotspot with iPhone, and it crashes on wifi.

The picture is very good, and AirPlay works and looks great.

We used to have TVCatchUp but that servise was pulled and it became very strict, no VPN's were able to access unless you have a special VPN package due to the strict enforcement by TVcatchUp team, maybe this app may go a similar way.

  • +1

Guys its cheaper than a pack of gum. i would give it 10 stars/+ if i could. great value, even if you can use it for a few days

  • Doesn't work for me on iPad2 using WiFi (Bigpond Cable), BUT will work (kind of) with the iPad2 connected to my mobile phone hotspot (Woolies Prepaid). Looking at ITV1 and BBC1, it takes forever to load and there is some major buffering after about 15 seconds of video, but the quality is quite exceptional). If this worked over WiFi for me, it would be fantastic.

    • Strange won't work for me on big pond cable either over wifi…. But works on my data plan on iPad… Hmmm
