Jeez Myer have gone so bad. Need a Miele washing machine, Myer has 5 no name washing machines online.

  • Can we use myer card anywhere eg coles ?
I don’t shop at myer at all.

    • +2

      No

    • +2

There are two types gift cards,
      1. Myer only
      2. Coles Myer gift card which covers,
      . Coles
      . Myer
      .Officeworks
      . Kmart
      . Target
      . Liquor Land

      • Can we either
        A) buy a coles myer gift card with a Myers giftcard at Myers?

B)Buy something at Myers that can be returned, and get it returned on to a Coles Myer gift card.

        • +2

          A) I doubt it.

I have asked multiple Myer staff about this (not whilst attempting to actually purchase a Coles Group & Myer gift card, but just in casual conversations whilst at the checkout), and they have all told me that you cannot purchase Coles Group & Myer gift cards using Myer gift cards. I think staff have been thoroughly trained on this topic, but you may be lucky and have staff at your nearest Myer who are not as well trained in this matter…

The other issue is that if you want to pay for a purchase at Myer using a physical gift card, I think the cashier needs to specifically select “gift card” on their (outdated) POS system. When I was at Myer a couple of weeks ago, the cashier assumed I wanted to pay by a card (e.g. Visa/Mastercard/AMEX/EFTPOS), but as soon as they saw me pull out a Coles Group & Myer gift card, they cancelled the card transaction and selected “gift card” on the POS system. The EFTPOS machine went into a mode that looked very different from the mode where it accepted Visa/Mastercard/AMEX/EFTPOS payments, so I doubt you could stealthily swipe a Myer gift card instead of a Visa/Mastercard/AMEX/EFTPOS card and get away with it.

Even if you somehow convince a staff member to select “gift card” as the payment method, I also have no idea whether the POS system will automatically block you from using Coles Group & Myer or Myer gift cards as a payment method for Coles Group & Myer or Myer gift cards, because I have never been able to get that far!

          B) I don’t think so.

Myer’s return policy insists that if a refund is issued on an item purchased using one or multiple Myer gift cards, Coles Group & Myer gift cards and/or Myer Returns gift cards, the refund will be given to you on a Myer Returns gift card. I have my doubts that you’ll be able to convince Myer staff to deviate from this policy, but you never know!

@WookieMonster: Hey Guys! 10+ Year Myer Employee here.

Everything you’ve written above is 100% true. All of us staff are thoroughly trained that you are not allowed to use a gift card to buy another gift card. Potentially if you are lucky you might be able to get an employee that is new that doesn’t know, but that would be very rare in February as pretty much all the christmas causal got let go in January.

The bonus 10% gift card is still pretty good though, Myer’s price matches most competitors and for those that shop for their wives/girlfriends - potentially keep your eye out this Saturday for a big discount on big beauty brands that don’t often go on special….. This jumbled with the bonus 10% would work out very well for you!

            • @KaneBrug: What do I get for my girl that's about to give birth? Give me some suggestions, it's part of a wider hamper!

  • Ah ok thank you

  • Didn't know Myer still existed

How many Myer gift cards can you use to pay for an item?

    • +1

      as many as you want

    • I once used 14 Myer (and Coles Group & Myer) gift cards to pay for an iPad, so at least 14?

  • Can I buy a myer gift card with a woolworths wish egift card?

    • +1

      Probably not.

      • If you attempt to swipe, scan or key in a gift card at the checkout, you'll get an error message and you'll probably get a reminder from staff that you cannot use gift cards to pay for gift cards at Woolworths.

      • If you use Everyday Pay, I have no idea.

        Thanks

  • The manager said I was only allowed to get a value of a maximum $500 is this correct? I thought i was 10 cards MAXIMUM

This comes up time and time again, and as you'll see from the following, there is no straightforward answer to your question.

My understanding is that store managers (or duty managers) at Woolworths (and Coles, for that matter) can set their own limits on the number/amount of gift cards they will sell to a customer (e.g. in one transaction or in one day or in one week) if they see fit, regardless of the terms and conditions of any gift card offer.

The limit specified in the catalogue probably only refers to the absolute maximum number of gift cards you can buy at Woolworths in one transaction, because that limit is ten. However, the catalogue glosses over other limits and restrictions across all Woolworths stores, including:

      • If you attempt to purchase at least $1,000 in gift cards in one transaction, you will be asked to provide information of your business before you finalise the transaction (if you're buying gift cards on behalf of a business). You don't have to provide that information (especially if you're not buying it on behalf on a business), but some staff may insist you provide your personal details in those fields before allowing you to pay for the gift cards.

      • If you attempt to purchase at least $2,000 in gift cards in one transaction, you'll also need manager approval before you can finalise the transaction.

In all fairness, scams and fraud are still very real problems, and I doubt you'd want to be the manager on duty when a fraudster or a victim of a scam passes through your store and purchases $1,000 or $2,000 worth of gift cards in one go. The managers at my local Coles and Woolworths have recently become quite stringent on high-value purchases of gift cards, because an older person recently purchased around $5,000 in gift cards (across multiple transactions) that went straight to scammers, so some staff have been cracking down on large-scale gift card purchases in response.

You may think it is overkill to limit gift card sales to a maximum of $500 per customers, but managers arguably have a difficult balancing act between stemming losses from fraud/scams and allowing customers to get the amount in gift cards they want.

  • Took advantage of this deal by getting a $100 Myer gift card at Woolies just now.

So total benefit earned = $100 gift card from Virgin Money + $10 extra from Woolies Myer.

Also the staff at Woolies stuffed up when scanned my Everyday Rewards card and tried to pay, she called someone presumably more senior and as a gesture of goodwill, the senior staff gave me 1000 ER points.

  • This is a good deal for me, Myer actually have food wine glasses which they do 10% odd regularly.

I don't mind an extra 10% off when the time comes!
