Good deal. Especially for the esim comparability.

  • Are we able to use these sims as data sims, say, for an ipad. I don't see anything excluding that use in the T&Cs.

    • You can if you want, as long as the device is compatible with the network per the device guidelines - https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/content/dam/Woolworths/Mobi…

    • +1

A SIM for a phone is exactly the same as a data only.SIM for a tablet or laplop, the provider simply blocks calls and SMS on a data only SIM, so yes, it'll definitely work.

  • -1

This now is better than the boost …correct me if I am wrong.

    Except the international calls.
I assume both wolllies and boost only gets 3g and 4g network

    • -1

      Correct
Woolworths Mobile uses parts of Telstra’s 3G and 4G network that covers 98.8% of the Australian population.

    • +9

Boost is the only provider on Telstra's retail network not wholesale so its still the better option as far as I'm aware.

      • I’ve used both, previously Boost, now Woolworths. Definitely notice the difference around Melbourne in terms of signal quality, but cost-wise I’m staying with Woolworths. Still far better than Optus.

    • as we regularly shop in woolies, I will be able to recover the $150 cost, also never used the international calling for the 2 years I was with boost..coverage is good in Brissy

    • Having been using this for a few months, I've noticed that coverage is fine, but sometimes it struggles when in trying a zoom call. I was hoping it would be better since it's on Telstra, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

    • Network coverage - less than Boost - not full Telstra, wholesale network (eg: similar to ALDI Mobile)

      Rest all yes
      - eSIM
      - International Roaming

For Unlimited International Calls use $5 addon, can easily recover this with 10% monthly shopping credit!

I moved out of Boost just because of no eSIM and no International Roaming (can't even receive SMS)!

  • $20 off on the $200 145GB deal at the moment too.

  • Hi danm02, my existing 365 day plan is expiring end of the month. Do you know if I can recharge now and extend it for another year without losing a few weeks? Or do I have to do it on the expiry date? Thanks.

    • +1

Hi! Unfortunately you cannot extend your service by recharging in advance (if you recharge, it will just replace/override the existing recharge applied).

You would need to either recharge on the expiry date or enable auto-recharge and it'll do it automatically

      • Right, that's what I suspected. Thanks for confirming nonetheless.

  • +2

Only let down is no VoLTE and WiFi calling for me

    • What is VoLTE used for?

      • Calls go over 4G i.e. you can use 4G data while on a call. If there is no volte then it drops back to 3G.

        • So basically no surfing the internet while on a call? Not a deal breaker for me.

          • @whey4000: Not necessarily surfing. Could be trying to access something that uses an online server. E.g. as you're on call someone sends you something on whatsapp or whatever social.. or you want to quickly check an invoice in your email etc etc. You'll have to hang up or be on wifi to do that. Would be a deal breaker for me personally.

      • From their FAQ:
        'Do you support VoLTE?
VoLTE will be rolling out to Woolworths Mobile customers starting from late October 2022 and expected to be completed in late December 2022.'

        'Do you support WiFi Calling?
Wi-Fi Calling will be rolling out to Woolworths Mobile customers starting from late October 2022 and expected to be completed in late December 2022.'

    • Yeah that's a huge deal breaker for me. Wifi calling is a must at my place, have poor indoor coverage

    • Only let down is no VoLTE and WiFi calling for me

      Now supported!!

    Finally! eSIM!

  • +1

can you use the sim card on the phone and esim on watch simultaneously on the same number?

  • Might be a stupid question - What is the advantage of an eSim, if you have to activate it using a physical sim anyway? I can see some advantages for people who use dual sims, but are there any other plus points if you are a single sim user?

    • eSim
      - phone
** free up your SIM slot for another local SIM when international roaming or cheaper data plan etc
** some providers allow instant activation via app, eg: Optus, no need to bother buying SIM
      - smartwatches - no SIM slot, comes with eSIM

      • You cannot use this for watches.

        • Yes, because they still need a physical SIM to activate the service! I wonder perhaps you can activate service via SIM on a phone and then move to eSIM on watch?

  • +1

Just note, woolies doesn’t issue you a tax invoice for recharging via the app or online. Incase you claiming this on business or work expense you better do it in store of able.

    • This is correct, if you need a receipt/invoice for claiming with the ATO, I recommend purchasing recharge vouchers in-store at the front service desk.

Alternatively (not advice, speak to your accountant) you may be able to claim it using the transaction on your bank statement and the recharge confirmation email sent out

  • I don't know very well about esim. Can I use additional esim of woolworths even though I am using a vodafone physical sim? Otherwise , do I have to use same provider (woolworths mobile) to use dual sim (physical+esim)?

    • +1

It will work forthe phone like Samsung s21, doesn't need to be same provider.

    • +1

      Depends on your device.

If your handset supports dual-SIM with physical and eSIM, then as long as the handset isn't locked to any particular network it should work fine.

For any specific questions or concerns relating to the handset, I recommend contacting the retailer or manufacturer.

  • Just be careful with e-sim and see how easy it is to switch. Lots of scams going around especially with optus where hackers switch to e-sim.

  • Some told me that Woolie mobile reception is obviously worst than Boost after the swap, what is your guys's experience? My Boost will expire soon.

    • +2

Boost uses Telstra Retail (full network) whereas Woolworths Mobile uses Telstra Wholesale. I encourage people to check and compare coverage before switching.

Alternatively, you can activate a $20 prepaid SIM and try it out for a month - if you're happy then switch with your main service :)

  • normal price….. also compromised reception even in urban areas….. eg metropolitan Sunshine Coast

    • What's this, telling us about your negative experience as a user of the service and voting negative. Do you think this is an acceptable use of a negative? O M G

It must be your fault. You must live in a blackspot. You need to change your network. It never happened to me so it couldn't have happened to you. Why are you making it so personal to push the red button instead of the green. Why are you targeting the poster of this fantastic deal with your negatives. They deserve to have a great experience here on OzEchoChamber, uh sorry OzBargain.

      • +1

lol…yeah well … was with belong and it was fine in my location.. people should probably test in their area before they shell out for a full year. Even if they were with another telstra provider….. or just neg me and buy it anyway :)

    • +1

What he said above are the fact. Not sure why the neg. Normal price. I got it at $140. we used amyasim, boost, coles and wws. Amyasim and boost are excellent in our area even in the shopping center. Wws struggles in the shopping center. I'm working from home and don't go to the centre very often, plus the esim, I'm okay with wws until I return to the office.

  • Hey Danm02,

Can you verify if a Sim can really be activated within 180 days of purchase as per the below two posts by Rod S?
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9q6k4xm3-9#r70173732
    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9q6k4xm3-9#r70184697

T&Cs say 60 days, but his comments indicate 6 months/180 days after purchase

  • +6

FYI - If you're planning to sign-up/port-in multiple mobile-phone numbers, make sure they're each registered as individual accounts, failure to do so means that you can claim only one 10% off voucher per-month in total, and to fix this, you have to port away from W.W. Mobile and port-in again!

  • It will take 14-25 business days to get delivered.
Can we get sim from Woolworth then activate it?

    • Yes, you can get a $2 (or any value Woolworths Mobile SIM) in-store and activate it via the website - during activation you can select the desired plan: https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/activate

  • +1

Isn't this the normal price? I've seen this $150 plan for months? (I don't remember what was the data quota)

    • Yes, got it for $140 recently

  • Woolworths Mobile has enabled eSim but still not for cellular smart watches…

  • -1

Extra bonus is you get a 10% discount on a shop each month. Which I somehow use twice. Online order first, then an in-store second. Won't work the other way around. On a good month my phone and delivery subscription are both covered

    • Did you buy a voucher in store, or a new SIM card?
      Thanks

  • Can this be purchased in store or is it online only?

    • You can purchase a SIM via the website however delivery can take upwards of 10-15 business days (AusPost regular letter, no tracking).
Personally I recommend just purchasing a $2.00 Woolworths Mobile SIM starter pack in-store and activating it on the desired plan via the website - https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/activate

      • I'm currently using the $20 prepaid plan. Can I buy this $150 online and then "activate" (change plan)?
        Thanks

        • +1

If you already have an active Woolworths Mobile service, you can just update the auto-recharge via the app or website to the $150 plan, then when your current $20 plan ends it'll auto-recharge and switch over

      • Can still get $10 referral if purchasing sim in-store and activate online?

  • can this be purchased / paid with Woolies gift cards?

    • +1

Yes, but only if you buy a $2.00 SIM starter-pack in-store, and at the front service desk purchase a $150.00 Woolworths Mobile recharge voucher, then use the recharge voucher to activate the $2 SIM

      • Works out to be $5.60 off with an RAC 5% discount! a true OzB plan :)

        • miss out on $10 referral i guess.

  • Looking at this now that Belong is getting rid of the $10 plan.
Does Belong use Telstra retail or Wholesale network?
My Belong service works well here so trying to compare before I buy.
    Thanks!

    • Belong and Woolworths Mobile both use wholesale

  • Currently $140. Save $10.

  • "silenthillrocks on 03/03/2022 - 07:33

    Currently $140. Save $10."

I wonder if this price continues with recharges?

    • +1

No, only for the initial purchase

      • Thanks
Still a good deal for my Father in Law.
        Currently on Aldi Mobile.
Has been waiting for the $99.00 plan but it looks to have been replaced with a $159.00 plan with a massive increase in the Data allowance but thats of no advantage to him.
I think I'll show this to him.

  • That's the normal price since last year or so… Doesn't qualify to be posted as a deal.

    • Check when this was posted.

  • Does this 10% off stack with the 10% discount you get for WW car insurance?
