          • @Slo20: No bonus gift with gov or edu purchase?

            • +1

@Jklaro: Well gov for sure but edu should be the same. Same as s21 release where they gave bonus buds but it wasn’t applicable in epp.

              This is offers in gov

Can you please confirm if for the Tab S8 Ultra Wifi, is it $1439.20 including the free keyboard cover pre-order bonus?

        • Is that 1024GB $1959.20 with the $450 trade in because I'm not seeing that price on education?

    • How do you get the government discount? I work for the government.

      • +1

you verify your account with a .gov email address, it can be hard finding the portal URL, just search through old posts

      • +1

In Google type Samsung Government portal. It should come up with a log in page.

That's easy. Thankyou, I didn't know this was a thing.

      No SD card slot… Sigh

      Does anyone care anymore?

      • -2

yeah like everybody - sticking to my s20 ultra for now

        • +7

          yeah like everybody

By everybody do you mean nobody? Because nobody I know cares, and the hundreds of millions of phones without SD slots would say it is far from 'everybody'.

          • +23

@1st-Amendment: That hundreds of millions of people by phones that don't have SD slots doesn't mean that they like it. Do they have another option? other than sticking with old phones?

            • -5

              @DontNeedThis:

That hundreds of millions of people by phones that don't have SD slots doesn't mean that they like it.

Well we can get a good idea because a few years ago when SD slots were first being removed, and people had a choice, and their buying choices showed most customers didn't care. Just like they don't care about replaceable batteries or headphone jacks, hence why everyone is removing them now.

See here: https://www.smartdraw.com/management/acceptance-cycle.htm you are in the orange and red phase. You will adapt eventually…

          • +2

@1st-Amendment: I care. Luckily I got the 512gb version of the s21U for a little over $1k during the deals. Would obviously prefer to pay $100 for 512 instead of $350+ manufacturers make you pay for the 512gb models.

I got my phone last Oct and filled in 100gb so far.

4k60p videos eat 2gb per 3 mins just FYI.

            • @krisspy: But you can't compare a 512gb SD card to 512gb of internal storage. Internal storage is far more reliable (we've all had SD cards die on us) and is faster, so it makes sense that you would have to pay more for it. I guess it's whether the extra you have to pay is realistic or not.

              • @wombat81: Fair point. I've never had a SanDisk or Samsung die on me, but I did have a shitty Huawei nm card crap itself hence why I decided to upgrade instead of paying $180 for another 256gb nm card.

I guess for me it's about being able to access the files without having to go through the cloud. So I'd prefer not paying for nvme levels of speed and durability.

                • +8

@krisspy: It's so funny when people defending feature that remove from product that people still need, and willing to pay for the greed of company. Yes internal storage are better than sd card no questions about it, but I never have reputable sd card fail on me most are just to small.

Be mindful that storage space in mobile phone not Improve for long time and the storage usage amount of apps increases big time, not to mention photo and video size.

                  • -4

@Anubizz: I'm not defending it at all. I'm saying that paying a higher price for internal memory is somewhat justified. If you still want to use an sd card, good for you, but you'll have to find a device that supports it. All I'm saying is that we will reach a point where you won't be able to buy a phone that supports an SD card (or headphone jack, or physical sim card, or even a USB port in the future). So you can complain about it being phased out all you want, but it isn't changing.

I never have reputable sd card fail on me most are just to small

The size of an SD card has nothing to do with failure rate. I'm not sure what you're on about there. I've had multiple sd cards of many sizes fail on me over the years and I only buy reputable brands from reputable sellers. It's a very common thing. You're lucky if it hasn't happened to you.

storage space in mobile phone not Improve for long time

Umm, yes it has. Base storage for the Galaxy S9 series was 64gb. So it's at least doubled since 2018. Before that was 16/32gb.

storage usage amount of apps increases big time

Nowhere near as much as standard internal memory size has.

not to mention photo and video size.

4k and 8k videos are obviously large, so if you do plenty of that, internal memory could be an issue for you. But even if you're using an SD card, surely you're transferring them off of it regularly anyway. Just use a cable and transfer from internal memory, which brings us back to my original point.

                • -2

@krisspy: You know you can use a cable to transfer files if need be. It's just as fast as an SD card.

        • -3

All 5 of you that complain.

      • +1

It's businesss smartPhone not iPhone ;)
You need business continuity backup plan.
        256GB microSD ~<$40 & falling/reusable from your video camcorder/DSLR/phone vs $120/256GB fixed (non reusable)
Spare microSD library with videos/photos/references for quick vacations/exchanges.

Do not trust Apple marketing :(

        • +1

          Cloud backup.

          • +10

@turtlesinmypants: Extra $$s, slower (with pathetic NBN), not accessible everywhere (overseas?) …
Choice is the biggest freedom - not locked in the walled garden :(

            • -5

              @taki:

              not accessible everywhere (overseas?)

Yeah they don't have the Internet overseas…

              Choice is the biggest freedom

You are free to create your own mobile phone company building phones with SD slots for all those people who want it, and if your product is indeed in high demand as you think you will become rich. Why don't you do that?

      • Whether people care or not, sd card slots aren't coming back. In the not too distant future phones won't have physical connectors at all. We're already at the point of physical sim cards not being a thing. Headphone jacks and sd card slots are on the way out. usb charging/data ports will be next. Phones will be nothing but a screen in a few years time. 4/5G data is becoming cheaper and faster. Cloud options are becoming more viable. Might as well start getting your head around it.

      • +1

I don't. Got 256GB, use Plexamp for music. It's great not having to transfer music

        • use Plexamp for music. It's great not having to transfer music

Streaming has been a thing for quite a while now. As Wombat81 said, you're going to have to adapt to the 21st century at some point…

          • @1st-Amendment: That would be fine if the camera setup was designed to stream all the photos and video you had taken from your online storage. Then every phone
would only need a small 128GB local storage as cache until the camera had uploaded the photo or video you had just taken…

            … But it doesn't.

        • +1

+1 for Plexamp, I love that software and can't go back to non- high fidelity music now..

Don't really want to pay for Tidal Hi-Fi streaming as it's so expensive.

        "Get on with the program."
I can't, I have no reception and it's in the cloud.

        • +4

No reception ? You should be buying towers before S22.
          :-)

          Just for chuckles.

          • @notJV: this just made my mood a lot better, thanks

        • I know you're joking but, honestly, how often are people away from reception/wifi these days?

      • +2

Have fun paying extra for Google storage and having 4k videos downsampled to 1080p unless you pay more for bigger storage or fork out money to buy an OG pixel for unlimited storage

      • +18

Curious, which folding iPhone did they copy?

          • +7

@Hugh G Rection: That's a pretty ignorant comment! While the Fold is not for everyone, I own one and love it.

          • +9

@Hugh G Rection: FLIP 3 is the best phone I've owned and I have parked my iPhone 13 Pro Max for it.

I got to the point where upgrading year on year for either "battery" or "camera" improvements was just ridiculous.

The fordable are the first thing in YEARS that has been exciting in mobile tech.

      • +8

LOL you can't be serious @Hugh G Rection . A few things Samsung added to their phones first that Apple followed with often years later - waterproofing, foldable screens, eSim, Multitasking/split screen apps, 4G, NFC, 5G, copy/paste text and pics, widgets (still much better on Android), wireless charging, power share with other devices, OLED displays (iPhone displays ARE actually Samsung panels) and the panels, flash memory and RAM also come from Samsung. So whilst you make that silly statement which is inaccurate and probably just to provoke the usual iPhone vs Android debate (I have both so appreciate both), the greatest irony is that the iPhone in your pocket is powered in a massive way by Samsung.

Apple really innovated to bring about the touchscreen revolution in 07, but sadly have been evolutionary rather than revolutionary since about 2010/11 and are playing catchup most years.

      • I like your name, but everything else you're saying is balls

        • What there wasn't true? Samsung did bring all those things to mobiles first. Thats just a fact

          • +1

@jay889344: My response was to Hugh G Rection.

But reading your post. You’re right. I agree with your post.

    • +1

Whilst none of my current phones have an SD card slot (iPhone 12 + Fold2), I do wish I had a cheap MicroSD slot. Not so much for apps, but more for just photos/videos and maybe my Retroarch collection too. Sure you could just plug in a small USB-C drive but not as tidy.

I thought the move to eSim would mean the hybrid sim trays where you had to choose between second nano sim and MicroSD would mean that I could use it for the MicroSD… but instead they just disappeared :(

    • 2015 me is crying

    • Ikr! And then I have e-sim too. Never used esim before so not sure how my Note10+ prepaid is going to translate to Esim

Gonna get rid off my pixel 6 pro for this 🙂

Tried the trade up program on my pixel 6 pro, but hate to burst your bubble, it won't accept.

  • JB Hifi offering same deal.

    • At least JB is accepting Pixel 6 pro 128gb, at $550 before bonus, so after with bonus, $450, its up to $1,000.00 trade in, not bad, closed to yesterday's Telstra day offer…

      • With JBHIFI trade in, if we don't send device back in, of course they will charge back the device fee, but how about bonus$450?

        • I think they will charge you for the offered value trade in. That's why when you sign up for it, you will need to provide credit card details.

        • They didn't charge for the bonus when I got my pixel 6 pro and didn't send it the trade-in device.

      • so you can use the $450 towards the phone itself?

Is it still up to 5 gift cards you can use at JB?

    • I can't seem to find the trade in deal on JB website

    • JB is offering slightly lower trade in price, based on my comparison of a S21 plus 128GB.

Samsung offers $545, while JB offers $500.

It is offset by the 5-15% gift card deals we've been having though.

      • I think it depends. JB offers $300 to my note 10 plus and Samsung offers $220.

        • Which are you going with? I'm in the same boat with JB offering $300 for my regular Note 10 while Samsung only offers $200.

Both have the $450 trade-in bonus and preorder gift bundles, but there might be a pro over ordering from one vendor over the other that I'm missing.

JB seems to be the better deal otherwise?

          • @antonlabz: I'm still considering right now. The free Samsung care worths $149 if you order from Samsung.

          • @antonlabz: I decided to order from Samsung Education. It gives $825 discount with a clear cover when trade in.

  • +3

    What is $150 samsung subscription?

    Isnt it $50 ?

    • Yeah, curious as well. Any more $100 loyalty code can eb obtained? I tried the s7 (phone can't be traded in) broken screen code trick for $200 code but they said they didn't give it out anymore.

  • Exynos?

    • Snapdragon, according to JB Hifi listing.

      • Looks like JB has conflicting info as under product details it has this
        Samsung’s first 4nm processor

        • +1

Verbatim from the JB website: "There’s the standard S22, the S22+, and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra sits atop the new Galaxy S22 models, and it’s an impressive phone. Expectations include big storage options, a Exynos 2200 chip, space for the S Pen stylus, and some of the brightest displays ever on a smartphone."

Samsung Exynos 2200 on one page

JB is very conflicting information though. Their specs page says Qualcomm SM8450 compared to the above.

          • @shellshocked: From what I read on GSMarena it is the snapdragon for Australia this time, and only Europe and the UK get the Exynos.

  • +6

Samsung prices are getting up there with Apple prices.

    💵 🖨️ brrr = 💵 👇 = 💲 🏷️ ☝️

    • +7

Well only if you buy them at full price which frankly is never going to happen on ozbargain. Taking the jbhifi offer, S22 Ultra 256GB is not a bad value at $1549 with a bonus pack.

      • mmm got the S22 Ultra 512GB for $1284 (using edu site + S10 plus trade-in + $50 from newsletter)

        • +2

@ry34, if you would have added any accessories it would have gone down to 1014$ also add free Samsung care +.

I tried putting $50 from newsletter but it didn't allow me for some reason.

          Paid $1064 for a 45w charger + s22ultra 512gb with tradein

          • @MXsoul: hmmm wonder if i can cancel/re-order…

          • @MXsoul: cancelled my previous order and re-ordered it with a 45w charger… you saved me $145 cheers!

      • Even the iPhone 13 promax I bought with woolworths rewards so got 15% cash back credit so saved about $350.

Always an OZbargain to be had

  • I have the S21 Ultra considering downgrading to the S22 Plus..anybody else in the same boat? i think i prefer the shape and i rarely use my existing Ultra to it's capacity anyway

    • Same boat, although i went S20 Ultra to S21+
I never used the feature set of the Ultra it was just a cheap deal so i got it.

      • no complaints at all? i dont normally upgrade this soon but i may as well while its good trade/sell value rather than sitting on this for another year.

        • Nope, Ultra was also just too big.. Unless you have huge hands i find the + perfect.
And im no photographer to use the crazy zoom or features.

If you just need a good phone with slightly bigger screen size the + is perfect

          • @JPNx: thanks for the feedback mate! I think ive decided on the Plus

    • +1

I'm in similar boat but because my S21 ultra gets warm… I blame it to exynos. I use the spen all the time so s22 ultra is my choice… Samsung rep said s22 ultra comes with snapdragon 888…. Is it an old chipset?

      • It's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 not 888 for the S22 series.
