      • Exynos on s21 ultra that bad? Were all phones sold in Au had that chip? I heard that they fixed the issues last year.

        • +1

The only reason i want to upgrade. S21 Ultra is an awesome phone but it got uncomfortably warm after playing games a while… I hate i when putting it in my pocket in warm days. Lol

          • +1

@Bargain-er: The SD888 has had heating issues too. I wouldn't necessarily assume that the new SD chip will dissipate heat well.

          • @Bargain-er: I've never had that issue

      • It's not SD888, it's SD8G1.

        • Yeah, samsung rep gave me wrong info. Isn't snapdragon much better in power efficiency?

          • @Bargain-er: In the S20 and previous models, yes. But the Exynos 2100 in the S21 series has almost identical performance to the SD888. Samsung changed their architecture and Exynos chips have been great since. Lots of talk around that the exynos 2200 in the S21 will outperform the SD8G1. We may have been shafted this time around by not getting the exynos chip.

            • @wombat81: I wudn "upgrade" if that's the case. Too much work migrating my gazillion apps. Any link on exynos 2100 in S21U? Thanks.

              • @Bargain-er:

Any link on exynos 2100 in S21U?

Sorry I don't follow. What link are you after?

                • @wombat81: https://youtu.be/rsLJLk3nx8k

The performance is close but temp is almost 10 deg difference exynos 2100 vs 888. Daym.

                  • @Bargain-er: Forget about benchmarks. They mean very little in everyday usage.

Also be aware that youtubers are paid via their views, so they need to find/create controversial content.

                    • @wombat81: Im typing fr my S21U. Using it for 20 mins for browsing and texts. I feel the warmness…so may be some truth there in exynos part. Kinda nice hand warmer in winter but not summer lol.

                      • @Bargain-er: Yeah I'm not debating the warmness, I'm just saying the SD888 versions aren't much different in real life use. There are plenty of SD888 S21U users on reddit complaining about heating issues.

                        • @wombat81: Yeah, so probably worth to wait for S22U reviews. No point upgrading if overheating is still there. Thanks

                          • @Bargain-er: They'll only release their reviews after the pre-order period is over. That way Samsung make sales before any negative reviews come through.

                        • @wombat81: you would think after a year they would fix it?

                          • @Rukiata: I don't believe it's "fixable". These new generation SOCs generate considerable heat and the phone designs don't dissipate that heat well enough. Samsung have said they've totally revamped their heart dissipation tech in the S21U so hopefully it's sorted, but since it's a physical design issue, I don't believe there's a fix for the S21 series.

Having said that, in my experience the heating is nowhere near as bad as it was with the old Exynos chips is the S9 series etc. Things occasionally get a bit warm but that's it. People make a big deal over it but it really is a non issue. If your device is getting hotter than that you have software issues and need to do a factory reset, IMO.

                            • @wombat81: Sorry that should read, they've revamped the heat dissipation tech in the S22U…

                            • @wombat81: I never has S9 so not sure. I think ur right, it's not it's "stinging" hot but just uncomfortably warm… I guess I'm just trying to justify an upgrade with hope it's a worthy upgrade lol

    • Oohh same. Thinking of doing fake trade in route and selling elsewhere plus will look up vouchers. I do like the 10x zoom on the s21u.

      • haha the only times ive used extreme zoom has been day one & when my kids look for Koalas in trees at conservation parks

        • Fair point. I guess it's just one of those it's nice that it's there features haha.

    • Only 1080p resolution on the S22+ kills it as an option for me. I think you'd find a noticeable difference in screen quality between the S21 Ultra and S22+.

      • True, but that extra resolution will impact battery as well.

  • With the subscription discount do I need a new code to receive $150 discount? Because when I put in my subscription code (unused) I got some six months ago I only received $50 discount.

  • +27

Guys…..just found out the code for free care+ "BONUSCARE" . same code from last year for Fold3 Flip3. Enjoy :))

$2k for a phone, what drugs are you guys on?

        Power of marketing 😉

  • If I choose to trade in do I need to return my phone in 7 days from pre-order, or 7 days from arrival?

    • +1

7 days from arrival. Once the courier notifies samsung about the delivery, they will email you the return instruction in a few days

    • Arrival

  • Hi everyone, can anyone confirm if the S22 Ultra is a dual SIM phone in Australia? Source?

    • Jbhifi page listing says its dual sim, but it is 1x physical sim + 1 x e-sim.

    • would like to know. gsmarena says the dual sim version supports esim so 3 sims? :O "Dual SIM (2 Nano-SIMs + eSIM, dual stand-by)"

      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone1=11251&idPhone2=9732#diff-,,*

      • That does not sound right though, as the extra sim slot is usually the expansion SD card slot as well.

If it is not expandable, then I don't believe there will be a 2nd slot hence no 2nd nano sim.

    • Dual SIM (nano-SIM+ eSIM), it shows under the detail.

    • Samsung Australia doesnt seem to provide that info. Jb Hifi website has inconsistencies. The closest I have got is from Samsung Global.

Dual sim can mean 1 SIM + 1 Esim to 2 SIM + 1 Esim.

      https://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/galaxy-s22/specs/

  • It says you can trade in 2 devices, does that mean we get the 450 bonus twice?

    • I added two trade in codes and it only applied the bonus once

    • Just once

  • +4

I feel like the S22 design took a step back from the S21 range.

I own the S21 Ultra and it seems to look better IMO

  • Is it possible to get an additional discount voucher talking to Samsung live chat?

    • +3

Why don't you talk to them and let us know?

  • -4

Our beloved poorly designed ripoff is back.

  • +7

Gee the trade-in option sounds risky. They'll issue you a discount code based on your own assessment of the device's condition, however, once they receive the device they reassess it and at their discretion charge your credit card if it is deemed of a different condition. You have no option to have your old phone returned!

WHAT IF THE CONDITION OF MY DEVICE IS FOUND TO BE DIFFERENT WHEN IT IS GRADED BY ASURION?
When your device arrives at the Asurion warehouse, Asurion will assess the condition of the device and verify that it matches the condition you declared in the Trade-Up App. If the condition is found to be different, you will be contacted via email and advised of the difference in trade-in credit. Your credit card will be charged the difference in trade-in credit (if applicable).

Of course, no Ozbargainer worth their salt would ever trade their phone for half its market value, but this is yet another reason to not even consider the option.

    • Use a virtual one time credit card. They won't be able to charge it after the authorisation.

      • +1

What do you mean? They dont charge just $1 but the full value of the trade in as a holding charge.

        • Do you mean they now pre-auth your credit card with the trade in value in advance until you return the device?

          • +1

@burningrage: Yes correct. Full value of the trade in device as a holding charge on your credit card

            • @dealsucker: Will it apply to this though? I mean, the phone is in pre-order stage (4th of March release right?) and after that you would have to wait until it is delivered. It would be fair to say at least the whole month plus and pre-auth doesn't normally last that long. Happy to be corrected though.

              • @burningrage: I am not sure about that myself. And whether it even works for a one time credit card. Anyone else?

            • @dealsucker: How do you know the full value of the trade in device is put as a holding charge?

              • +1

@BlunderCat: It says that on the samsung trade up app and when i chose to go ahead, it failed saying not enough funds.

        • Oh really? I thought they just held $1 as an authorisation charge. My bad then.

          • @j0hnd0e: They used to, but probably too many people exploited them

    • +5

As someone that tried to do the right thing and actually returned my trade up device in a past deal. The phone I sent to them was in perfect condition but they assessed it as 'not in the described physical condition' and charged the my credit card.

Maybe Asurion used it as an excuse to get some more $$, or more likely it was physically damaged in transit. When you go to the post office using their prepaid shipping label, all you get is a satchel that has almost no cushioning in it (Asurion seem to be cheaping out on shipping costs using satchel instead of a box, which I don't think is appropriate for such a fragile device) so quite possibly it could have been damaged in transit.

After emailing them they refunded me as a once off gesture but it was still not a pleasant experience and I dont think I would consider actually sending my device off in future.
If considering this again I would at the very least take a video or photos of the phone in good condition being put into their provided satchel at the post office - as evidence of device condition, that I followed their exact directions and any damage is due to their method of postage.

      • Asurion used it as an excuse to get some more $$

Yep. They're a private contractor. The more they can devalue the phone, the more money they make on reselling it.

so quite possibly it could have been damaged in transit.

Was your phone just in the sachel, or also in its original box?

        • Just in the aus post satchel. It has a very thin layer of bubble wrap padding on the inside.
In hindsight sending it back in the original box would have been a good idea. However the trade in instructions just said bring only the phone (no charger or anything) to the post office, show their Barcode for the shipping label and post does the rest. I had assumed that the prepaid post option paid for by asurion would take into account the fragile nature of the goods they are dealing in but even the lady at the post office was surprised that the prepaid postage method was just the satchel

          • +1

@legs: Mmmm…. Certainly sounds like they are trying to cut costs at every corner. As you've followed their instructions (re. packaging) they are liable for damage, no matter them calling it a "one-off gesture". Glad you got your money eventually, doesn't make up for the stress at the time though.

  • +1

Could some please explain what happens if you don't actually send the phone in for trade-in. Do you just forfeit the trade in value of the phone (and keep the trade in bonus voucher)?

    • Yes, plus $60 admin fee.

    • I cant say what they are doing now as you would think they would eventually stop people from doing it eventually but when i did it for my S21 Ultra i didnt send the phone back. I got warnings that i would be charged back the phone trade in value but keep the trade-in bonus.

I got the cheapest phone that was available from the approved phone list from CEX. Used it for the trade in bonus and then returned it to CEX. For me i never actually got charged back the non return fee from the phone which i know others did.

    • IT looks like they've clamped down on this .. the trade in app asks a ton more questions now and your asked to upload id such as a driving license as well

  • +1

Possible to get this $450 with a damaged screen?

    • +1

I would be doubtful, the screens are the most expensive part of a phone.

    • +2

      No. That's an automatic $0.

You can say all is good in the app, and just not send the phone in. They'll charge your card with the phone value + $60, but you'll still have your $450

      • In the FAQ:

If you do not to return your device in 7 days , you will be automatically charged the value of the trade-in credit plus a $60 (AUD) administration fee. Samsung may also charge you for any additional bonus credit which was applied to your order.

You can possibly need to pay the $450. I do not know this was there in their previous FAQ or is it something new they added.

        • Da FAQ?

Might be the OzB mass device non-delivery that triggered it.

I can confirm I didn't have to pay any bonus credit for the S21 deals last Dec.

    • Use a cheap usb c hub with mouse and hdmi to monitor

  • +1

Can i trade in my s21 if the back screen is cracked?

  • Wow, whole S22 line looks horrible.

  • ERROR: 500 - INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
Uh oh, looks like something has gone wrong, sorry!

Anyone else having this issue when they try to checkout?

  • -1

Glad to see Samsung following in the footsteps of Apple.

Re-release the same phone 3 years ago with an updated camera, downgrade on everything else and remove all (necessary) accessories and market them as "add-ons"

    • +1

      What are the downgrades?

      • What are the downgrades?

        Compared to the S20 Ultra/5G…released Feb/20:

        • Removed the wall charger, and AKG (Wired) headset (yes they're wired but still worth $60 RRP) that's a combined total of $120 removed from box
        • Reduced Screen Resolution;(2340x1080) compared to (3200x1440)
        • Reduced Internal Memory; 8GB compared to 12GB
        • Removed Expandable Memory Option.
        • Aluminium frame compared to an all-glass frame
  • If I summed this correctly,

Assume you are buying Note 22, I mean S22 Ultra 512gb, then the key difference between buying this retail/EPP/Govt is this:

Buy it at retail $2,149 minus $450 (assume trade in worth zero) and get yourself a power bundle worth $337 (65w charger, trio wireless, black leather cover)
Buy it at EPP/GOV $1,719 minus $200 if GOV or $250 if EPP and no bundle (more cash to spend) and you need a charger anyway to make the most of super fast charging.

I guess the best saving would be to buy it via EPP $1,469, use your $50 Sign up voucher, and then just buy the 65w charger separately (who know how much it is) and you can get custom colours too.

    • But the $50 voucher can't be used for S22, based on those trying in Edu stores.

      • Wot?? I thought that's a universal coupon. lol

    • How do you get $250 extra on top for EPP?

      • Branor's comment above

"From Edu store: Spend $200 or more on Galaxy Wearables and Accessories and receive $200 off your Galaxy S22 Ultra. Plus, $250 trade-in bonus, 40% off SC+ and 30% off Galaxy S22 Ultra cases! Don't miss out!"

        • The trade in currently is not working :(

Has anyone tried EDS codes to check if they work?

          • @dealsucker: I had this problem last time with Z Flip. When I had this problem last time, I switched the trade in instead of instore to online. Don't know if this is the same problem.

            • @burningrage: I dont want to do it online since I am not planning to send my device over and they hold a charge back on your card now

          • +1

@dealsucker: I just went through the process on the EDU store for a 512gb Ultra, I originally chose to trade in at store because it doesn't ask for your credit card details. But the trade-in ID will not work on the website. You need to choose trade-in online and get a new trade-in code for online. Then it worked.

I traded in a Note 10+ ($220 trade in value) brought my total to $1249.20 for the 512gb version of the 22 ultra.

I tried to add the $55 case to my order and the price went up to $1350 ($100 more) so I removed the case and ordered it in a separate order.

            • @oison: Thanks mate. But did they place a holding charge on your credit card for the full value of the trade in?

              • @dealsucker: Not sure if your problem has been resolved. If the IMEI has been used for trade in before, it would appear as 'service is unavailable'

                • @tyspower: I had this error before. I updated the app. What's changed was the old App says $1 will be taken off. After update, now the whole amount will.

              • @dealsucker: Yes they took the $220 from my CC already. Plus an initial $1 i suspect to verify my CC

                • @oison: That's a dicky move. If you already took $220, no need for $1.

            • +1

@oison: $1250 is a damn good deal for 512gb which is what I am after.

  • +1

Not sure if it’s just me but the 200 from wearable discount doesn’t seem to stack with trade in bonus

    • +1

And the Care+ bonus code doesnt work for me on the normal samsung site, Corp EPP, Gov EPP or EDU EPP.

Something must be wrong in the backend with a lot of stuff not working right now.
