  • Anyone know if the discount has already been applied on the website, or is that the normal retail price and then you take the 15% off?

What does anyone think of the Asus EEE PC X101CH-BLK031S 10.1" Netbook (it's only Intel Atom), for $296.80 now. Is it capable of running multiple programs?

    • I used to use an older EEE PC and IMO it's not very ergonomical to use for long. Using it to browse internet is ok but anything more productive tends to be meh. I did upgrade the RAM on mine but still found it still too slow even after tweaking it. It could run multiple programs but not very good at it. If I remember correctly the resolution was really poor as well.

IMO a tablet > 10" netbooks. (I've been using the iPad more than the netbook) Just depends what you are going to use it for.

    • I agree with Allan. I still have my netbook but it just does not cut it. Im used to small screens and underpowered machines. I upgraded the ram to 2gb and installed ubuntu. Yet it still did not have the power i was looking for. It can do word docs and internet… but honestly not that well. If you wanted to make it usefull I would say put in an SSD and upgrade the ram. However then thats doubled the price for you.

    • I bought the missus a hp dm1. it has an 11.6" screen so it is small, but much better than netbook. They are curerntly around $400 from JB, but have seen them on special for less. I will probably buy another for me.
It is a proper small laptop, obviously not for gaming.

    • The ram is soldered on for this model so you're stuck with 1gb. I bought one a couple of weeks ago for this price purely for data logging so wasn't worried about the speed. One good thing I did notice was the "instant on" from sleep mode. Surprisingly quick.

  • I would prefer a ultrabook instead.

  • ASUS is a good brand to go by, but some laptops now come with only 1 year warranty instead of the standard 2 years.
