Essentials 40cm Pedestal Fan $3.75 (Was $15) @ Woolworths

2650

This item is usually $15 and suppose to be in half price $7.50 for week's special, but it is $3.75 maybe by mistake, not sure.

Bold to assume they aren't just deteriorating in storage unused

          • +1

@cydia9k: If they’re sitting boxed up I don’t see it deteriorating? No batteries, no uv, nothing organic that can rot….

            • -2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Realistically you're right, I forgot I'm on OzB and you are probably serious.

Just don't store the receipt with them. They'll catch wind and disintegrate accordingly.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Summer stock needs to be cleared out to make room for the rest of the year!
Most stores don't have enough space out the back for seasonal products, let alone their normal stock!
              Why complain about a bargain?
Sometimes it's up to the individual stores grocery manager to mark down products "just to get rid of them"

          • +1

@cydia9k: Store in airconditioned and controlled environment :)

        • Ok Broden.

        • -1

I hope you make a loss.

      • +2

You'd need 8 of them quality items to last until end of summer.

        Then return 7

          • @chonkie: So WW has more than one snozzberrie and WWS has a snozzberrie what a strange family

    • +2

Nope, still showing $3.75 in the app.

    OOS

  • +8

Goodness, the energy to run it will cost more than the product!

    • +10

This fan has a maximum draw of 38w
That's about 1.14 cents per hour if you are running the fan at maximum speed.

      • I think most efficient setting is medium (2) speed

was planning to buy a $899 Dyson Fan, now i can get 256 of this to cool myself down!!!

    • +11

You'll be…. blown away by the electricity bill

256 of these generating heat in an enclosed space may well be enough to blow you away permanently.

Just bought one from a local store. This fan has a very very bad build quality. it looks even not worth $3.75. but I am too lazy to return it back. planning to throw it away after Easter.

  • Nice bargain!! Just order one (y)

    • +21

Looks like every fan I've ever owned. Not once have they stopped working and became "landfill".

      Get off your high horse.

      • +1

        You building a windfarm?

        • +3

No, I don't have many and I haven't had to replace them. That's the point.

    • +2

      Do you mistreat yours?

I've bought cheapie fans like this with the oldest I currently have being appox 8 years old and still working well.

      • Hmmm maybe I was unlucky. The couple of cheapie fans i tried always went bad after max couple of years. Now I only use Mitsubishi Electric fans.

        • +1

Fair enough. Realistically, QC on products this cheap would be a bit lower, so there may be some duds out there. And if you did get unlucky and get duds subsequently, I don't blame you for being wary of them.

    • Agree with your thesis, but not the supporting data.

Cheap fans I've bought (only 2 or 3) have lasted many years each with no problems.

That being said, if $3.75 was the intended price, it just encourages waste. Some git will buy 100 for a supposedly 'hilarious' Tik Tok video, and then dump them…

  • +17

jv should get on this deal so that she can say she has at least one fan

  • +1

Damn! I paid $7.50 last week (half price) but $3.75 sounds even better. Half off half price.

    • I got 2! :D one for my parents.

  • +1

I'm no advocate for the environment, but DAMN that is a terrible product. I've had something similar in the past. As soon as you touch it or just general prolonged use, they are basically useless.

Then there is my other side that says… Broden that MF and get on eBay.

    • I've had something similar in the past/still own them. No issue here with moving it around when it's on or general prolonged use.

      • Was it really one of these, though? Whenver I have bought a cheap fan, one way or another they warp and then make that annoying sound or just die. You must have the touch… I certainly don't.

        • +1

Admittedly, not necessarily the Woolies one, but have always been these sub $15 ones (I think I'm up to four now).

Out of interest, what exactly is warping?

          You must have the touch…

          I have the Midas touch.

            • @[Deactivated]: Just to be clear, my question was a genuine one, not trying to be funny or trip you up, honestly interested.

Obviously the last part was in jest.

              • +3

@tomsco: The only thing wrong with these ones is the stand/legs wont hold up if you move the
around a lot or are not careful.

That's the only issue I've had with mine, they are far more less expensive to run than AC (but obviously only give the feeling of cooling).

At $3.75 they are a steal

              • +1

@tomsco: Sorry missed your comment. All good man. Basically the casing around the petal thingy. The cage part. If it warps just a tiny bit it starts making weird noises while it oscillates. Not too bothersome during the day but I liked to sleep with the fan noise and it would become really annoying. I know, first world problems haha.

          • @tomsco: I have a cheap pedestal fan about 4 years old, I think it came from Bunnings, and all three of the fan blades have curled forwards so they push against the cage. For a while it would start up despite rubbing against the cage, and once spinning the centrifugal force pulled the blades straight enough that the fan would operate okay. But after a while the blades curled a bit more, and the fan didn't start, and I realized it could be quite dangerous. Maybe it has effective overheat protection, maybe it doesn't, I'm not willing to find out.

Next time I'll photocopy the receipt and store it away.

Hopefully I'll spot a fan with compatible blades during hard rubbish collection, and I'll swap the blades over.

The curled fan blades are white plastic, feels like ice-cream container plastic.

    • I have a $26 arlec fan from bunnings and its coming close to 3 months constant 24/7 use. Its a bit more expensive but same category. I guess that would be around 3 years + of normal household use

    • I've got one of these, used it for a few months over summer. Motor worked fine, my only complaint is the paper thin metal the legs are made out of, so thin it couldn't hold on to the plastic stoppers and when I tried to bend slightly to hold it, the metal split. Nothing a bit of gaff tape couldn't solve, and it's been going good ever since.

      • I might be too picky. But I like to use the fan at night for ambient noise. Everytime I accident dinged it or just over time it would warp justttt enough to start making weird noises and then eventually just die on me lol.

        • I think everyone gets extra picky when they are trying to sleep (-:
I only used the fan during the day, so plenty of other noise around.

          • @sacah: haha yeah true. I got tinnitus so a nice consistent noise is soothing.

  • +6

    Big fan of this deal

  • +1

    OOS already.

  • +3

Just bought one from my local Wolli.
BTW, There is no discount price on shelf.

  • instore as well?

    • +1

yes, but as mention from others, they are marked at full price till you scan them, Don't be suprise if they are not on shelves either, Just ask staff if they got some, as they have them out back

  • +4

Yeah managed to get one. As pointed out the price is not updated so the shelf price is still $15 but at checkout it is $3.75.

    Thanks OP 🙂

Edit. Got it from Campbelltown mall in NSW

  • Cheers OP, bought two.
I'll be painting all the rooms in my house and these will come in handy
