Tefal VF5450 Pedestal Fan - DC Effitech Motor - $139 Delivered / C&C / in-Store (RRP $229) @ MYER

80

Cannot vouch for this fan (until the one I ordered arrives) but reviews seem positive.

DC motor which is reasonably hard to find for this price.

Light from display supposedly turns off so good for bedrooms.

Reviews state that it is quiet.

12 month warranty which is not great, not terrible. Tefal guarantee parts availability for a number of years so is theoretically repairable.

Free shipping on orders over $99.

Been eyeing this off for a while. Lowest price I’ve seen prior to this is $159 + shipping from a number or retailers. You may be able to get JB to price beat but then you have to engage with another human.

I believe the deal finishes on Sunday.

  • What the Effitech?

    • branding for efficient technology probably?

      • Prolly! Any idea how this compares with the Philips series 2000/3000 fans?

Got the Phillips 3000 from HN for $119. It's great!

        • The Philips ones seem to be quite good however are not DC fans. I almost purchased one a while ago when they were on sale but wanted to try a DC fan. Unless you really want a DC fan then I reckon the Philips would be a great option.

The Kogan DC Pedestal fan is a similar price, sometimes down to $100. They’re whisper quiet on their lowest settings. Perfect for when you’re trying to sleep.

  • Since when Tefal manufacture fans? I thought they have always been pots and pans?!

    • Since always, the make kettles / irons etc too

They’re branded as Rowenta in Europe, if anyone cares.

Good price, cheaper than anywhere else, especially with free shipping, however as expected Myer RRP of $229 is inflated (other retailers $159, $169 plus shipping). Real saving is closer to $30 - $40.

  • I don't want to be 'that guy' but here you go, what's the difference between this one and a $17 one from K-Mart?

Is having a DC motor really going to save you that much energy, particularly over the just 12 months warranty period?

It's just a pedestal fan…. The motor in the K-Mart one is darn near silent, but I will concede that the gearbox is a bit 'clunky'!!

There's a lot of K-Mart products that I can't believe how cheap they are, cheap and disposable, yes but did it mention cheap!!

It claims 50% less power. At the 40 watt high speed setting on a normal fan this would use only 20 watts. If you run a fan for about 12 hours per day you'd use about 100kWh less per year with this fan. At 30 cents per kWh you'd save $30 per year. So it would take four years for this DC fan to pay for itself.

      Quality build
      Nicer looking
      Quieter
      8 speeds
      Possibly higher flow rate

      • Yep! And less junk going to landfill.

DC fans are quieter, have more settings, last longer and generate less waste heat in the room you're trying to stay cool in. Still using the same Xiaomi DC fan I got in 2019 whereas I don't think I've ever seen a cheapy last more than one or maybe two summers of heavy use.

Given I run my fan pretty much 24/7 in summer It's definitely paid for itself several times over already.

Got mine today. Been running it all afternoon, really quiet and powerful! Thanks op for the recommendation

    • Glad to hear! Mine should arrive this week.

Arrived today. It’s amazingly quiet. Much quieter than the DC Vornado I have. Very surprised. Awesome!

I agree! Really impressive so far

        • I'm late to the party, but wanted to add, also very much a fan of this fan. Very quiet on the lower settings even when oscillating, large range of speeds, remote control, led display turns off (no disturbing light at night), feel solid, looks good, uses less power. Really happy with it, cheers for posting the deal OP.
