  • that is truly a bargain… :)

  • im thinking this one or Parktools which is similar price

I do like Wera tools but in this case you could buy a locally made torque wrench of the same specifications for less. It's $139 at Sydney Tool or from the maker at $161.59 - https://sydneytools.com.au/product/warren-brown-334251-14-dr…

  • Be wary of these! I bought the 1/2" version recently at about 5x the cost of my old torque wrench and despite the nice looking calibration certificate, found it was much less precise and also less accurate. I now plan on going digital, gearwrench seem to be have a good performance/price ratio but don't do 1/4". For that I bought a Shahe branded one from Aliexpress, but it's still on the way so I can't comment on whether it is any good.

    • Out of curiosity, how did you measure how accurate it was?

I used a cheap digital torque adapter. Yes, far from lab quality I know, but precision can be readily compared with large sample sizes as introduced errors apply to both tests and average out. The scatter of 50 test points of the Wera was far worse than the same number with the cheapie, sample points extending another 2-3N/m. Absolute accuracy if I'm honest I can't say with certainty, but the Wera is supposed to be 3% accurate (1.5Nm @ 50Nm target) so with the variation observed you would have to conclude that it was frequently out of spec.

        • Is it possible to calibrate that one yourself? I haven't tried it on my kincrome yet, but I've seen a few youtube videos on the subject and it seems easy enough.

          • @SKiZO: I would expect you can calibrate for accuracy (making the average of many readings closer to actual) but not for precision where many readings have a lot of variation.

If you want accuracy, a deflecting beam torque wrench like the locally made Warren and Brown ones will the most reliable.

      • 100% agree. Have used them and they a fantastic.

  • I recently ordered a bunch of Parktool stuff including a tw-5.2 during the pushys 15% off sale, but I do like the portability of pairing this with some thing like this set: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B00IMF1CDO/ref=ewc_pr_i…

Just not sure if its worth grabbing some thing like that to keep in the car..

    • Oooof you got ripped on the Parktool stuff.

Even with discounts (and unless its urgent) I would never advise ordering Park Tool gear from Australia.

Its not made here, its not designed here, there is little reason to get gouged for stuff you can get from Europe and America for 50% or less.

I got my TW 6.2 (the higher torque version of the 5.2) for about $130 from Europe…

Great! I have been eyeing on this for a while but the original price had put me off. Now bought. Thanks OP.

  • Awesome, Bought. Thanks!
