Spend the extra $100 and get the 5800x- https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0815XFSGK

      you mean extra $100

    • +1

With the same L3 Cache size, 5800x is barely better than 5600x in most gaming scenario, unless you do productivity task a lot or you like to OC a bit further for the sake of OC itself.

      • "5800x is barely better in gaming unless you do productivity task a lot"

So if you do productivity task a lot, it'll be much better in gaming?

        • +2

You know what I meant so being picky about my wording isn't the point.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ6k-cQ94Rc

5600x has almost the same gaming performance as a 5800x despite it have 2 less cores(proof as above),
but worse on productivity load since it have 2 less cores.
5600x in general usually are slightly worse bin so on average a 5600x won't OC as high as a 5800x.

      • An AMD 5900x is barely better than a 5800x if you look at the youtube video you linked below.. Only a 3-4 fps min. and max. framerate increase across the 11 game test. That is most likely because games still aren't 4-6 core optimised.

I'd love to pick up a 5600x with a B550 MSI MPG mobo for $400

    DREAMING…………………..

  • +8

    $299……………. come on.

    • +2

I think the reason why AMD is slow on reducing their price is because B660 motherboard for 12th gen is still high. The cheapest one on Google is $199.

      • +3

B660M for $169. Low end board but plenty enough for the 12400f, which goes for $289 with shipping.

AMD can do better. LGA1700 board prices will only drop with time and AM5 is coming soon. Its now or never if they want to compete in the budget oriented range.

        • Good find mate. The 6 phase VRM on this board looks a bit concerning but I think it is enough for a 12400f.

    • $299 would be awesome, but retailers are still sitting on 3600's at that price.

      • Which is why I *cking hate these retailers all with a burning passion, they can herd those 3600 along with massively inflated stocks of gt1030 to their grave. They are earning a killing on those I bet you, they surely didnt increase the price because their suppliers increased the price, they must have had these old stocks in since ages.

        • Yeah, as much as people love to blame scalpers/bots for things like the GPU shortage, it's suppliers that are responsible for jacking prices because they know that's what they can get for it.

      • should be that price now, I got this for $335 last September.

  • I seem to recall with the first few gen of ryzen, the cost per core was the same across all models within a dollar or two.

So a 4 core 8 thread ryzen 3 cost half as much as a 8 core 16 thread ryzen 7.

I was excited at the the time, because intel would charge through the nose for each extra core.

Now it seems its gone the other way, theyre getting cheaper and cheaper.

    6 core 5600 = $66 per core (this deal)
    8 core 5800 = $62 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/681060
    12 core 5900 = $52 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/680883

  • old RRP, it is so weird to see the price increase with time

  • I was eyeing off upgrading my older quad core Ryzen but went with the i5 11400 instead. Pretty similar performance, quite a bit cheaper.

First intel build i have done in well over 10 years.

  • Just sold my 8 Core 1700X today
Unsure whether to sell my X370 and go back to Team Blue
5000 Series although tempting seems like a waste of money now
