    Deals on 5950x?

    • We have some for $999 on the website :D

      • 1K is the norm, not quite tempting enough.

  • +12

Not that much more than what the 5600x cost on release just over a year ago.

    • Pays to be patient. Or just be happy with a 1600af. Still runs everything perfectly lol

      • -2

What chip shortage? What inflation? CPUs are the cheapest they've ever been. GPU prices are solely because of crypto mining.

Usually people that buy on release get burnt 6-12 months later, but crypto has reversed that trend for GPUs for this generation.

        • +3

There's a world wide chip shortage. That's why it's so hard to buy a new car or camera. And partly why GPUs are hard to come by as well.

It's been pretty well covered in all enthusiast media and a lot of main stream media too. It's a real thing.

          • -3

@Sxio: No, there isn't lol. Car companies cut their silicon orders expecting a drop in sales, when sales went in the other direction, they couldn't get an increase in production due to not understanding how silicon foundries work. Toyota, which didn't cut orders, didn't experience shortages.
GPUs aren't hard to come by at all, GPUs at reasonable prices are, and prices are tied to their ETH hashrate.

            • +2

              @iseeyou1312: Toyota did.

              https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/toyota…

No because they didnt get their order fufilled, becuase everyone else demanded their pre covid amount

There a 9 month wait for a new car.

Ordered in July 2021, expected here March 2022

            • +1

@iseeyou1312: Down voters don't understand. Lol

            • @iseeyou1312: Ok. Sure there isn't. Guess you're getting all your news from the 'alternative dimension' websites.

              • +1

@Sxio: It's mainstream news car manufacturers shot themselves in the foot by cancelling orders.

Generally, companies like Ford are able to cancel orders on a whim and screw with their suppliers at will, with plenty of other companies willing to replace them if need be. However, multi-billion silicon foundries do not care about the 5 cent chips on an obsolete 200nm node Ford is buying. If Ford cancels their contract, then they have absolutely no ability to get more. The fact that they cancelled orders as demand for cars went up, means that they created a self-inflicted crisis.

And then of course, just look at production numbers. GPU production is up by almost 100% since the pandemic started. Nvidia are shipping 13m desktop GPUs per quarter. You can't literally have production double and claim the reason prices are high is due to production shortages.

                • +2

@iseeyou1312: Dude. The very first line - "a shortage of semiconductors is teaching the industry a painful new lesson in what it takes to build a car."

So you agree there is a chip shortage. Thank you. Yes I do too. Good conversation.

                  • @Sxio: Tsmc chariman said firms are hoarding chips. It's not his problem they are doing it.

"there are people definitely accumulating chips who-knows-where in the supply chain."
Liu says he and his team analyze data points to determine which customers are in actual need of chips, versus ones who are buying them and setting them aside.
As a result, Liu said TSMC has delayed orders for major customers, even when they "may not be satisfied" with the decision, because "we just have to do what's best for the industry."

      Paid $560 for my 5600x

      • +1

        Paid $373 for mine

        • +2

          Paid $700 for 5800x 🙃

          • @minatosensei: Same. Anyone wanna buy my year old chip? Bloody 5900x and 5950x shortages at the time of build

          • @minatosensei: $500 for mine a couple of weeks ago, although that was with eBay discount bring it down for around the price of this.

          • +1

@minatosensei: i see your $700 for your 5800x and raise you to $750 for my 5800x lol. It's a good bin at least and boosts to 5ghz on scythe fuma 2.

            • @dsiritz: This was like 6 months after release and the 5600x was constantly sold out.
Every now and then during the 6 months a 5800x would appear randomly on Amazon.
Probly abit overkill for just gaming. But eh, been using it daily and paired with a 3070, no complaints besides overpaying for both lol

        • 373.50 same

      • +1

I paid similar but looking at comparisons, seems this one is about… 5% faster than what we got? I do a lot of photo editing but I'm still hesitating. I don't think the improvement will be worth the $$$ here. I think I'm better off just being content for another 2 or 3 years and then upgrading my entire system.

        • You'll probably just save time on the import and export more so I'd say

          • +1

@Lolitsjoel: Yeah I agree. I have 32gb Ram and running it off an SSD, it's really quite snappy already. I haven't timed it but it's not 30secs, prb more like 10-15? I remember the old days of it taking 2mins + just to restart my computer so this is all pretty sweet.

Still, I'd love to have the best CPU for my mobo that I can get, but i recognise it's a weird ego compulsion and with money being harder to come by these days, I need to see a meaningful real world improvement or it's just not worth it. I mean, 5 secs faster is basically nothing, I can barely get 2 sips of tea in that time!

            I love computers.

            • @Sxio: Depends if you're say, LR export 400 photos then it'll make life easier for you other than going to go get a coffee.
I completely agree with you though, will probably settle for a 5900x later towards the end of the year if I get back into constant editing

        • The benefit of the 5800x/5900x/5950x is just that there are more cores: if your workload can't utilize them it's just a waste of money.

      • +1

What? Why would you pay that much? That's insane

      • Paid $563 for my 5800X March 2021

    • Got one last year for $399 so significant

  • +2

Haha like this very clear to the point —- (No GPU's :), so don't bother waste time asking.

  • +3

Paid this price when PCCG had the Klarna 25% waived. This is a great CPU for a great price.

  • +3

    Deal on 5600x please.

    • +1

      +1
      Hoping for $350

    • I thought the $366 price last week was pretty good for this no?

  • +1

Fantastic price on this. Any deals on a decent m-itx board to go with it?

    • Plus one for this - I'm looking to build a m-iTX build in the NR200P, so keen on any discounts you can provide on parts that'd go into that build =]

      • We have some Gigabyte A520I AC boards for a decent price if you are interested send us a PM here or on facebook, or call 1800 011 341 :)

        • Let us know if you can do better than $119 delivered as I have seen them at that price on ebay

        • You reckon that has enough guts for a full 5900x?

          • +1

@hamwhisperer: IMO it will work well. But would you place a (formerly) $1K CPU in a $120 board? I would at least get a B550i or X570i mobo

            • @vinni9284: I agree tbh, I have a 550 but i was curious if 520 boards could do it.

  • Have one, brilliant. Just buy

  • +1

This CPU is too expensive for those waiting 3080 to reach $800.

    • -2

No one should be waiting for a 3080 anymore, they should be waiting for Lovelace, which will make even a $500 3080 look like poor value.

      • +5

And you think they sell 4080 for $800? What Nvidia is now a non profit company?

        • -2

Okay, I was wrong. A $500 3080 will remain good value.
The 4070 leaks suggest a $550 USD MSRP, 4080 is $799, which gives them Australia MSRPs of ~$935/1360.
The performance jump is meant to be 60-80% for Nvidia and 80-100% for AMD. Nvidia are actually using a decent node this time around (TSMC 5nm), same as RDNA3 and AMD have completely redesigned their GPUs into chiplets, like modern CPUs.
Anyway, if we assume a more conservative 60% generational improvement, this gives the 3080 a value of $760 against the 4070 and $675 for an 80% jump. RDNA3 will further reduce these figures.

          • +2

@iseeyou1312: Hmm, this is assuming that crypto mining is entirely dead when lovelace comes out.

There are many excess supply of 3080 still selling between $1899 to $2999 depending on brands, model, etc. Selling them at $760 would be a nightmare for retailers and distributors.

Also don't forget supply from ex-miners 3080 FHR and LHR in the millions.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: True, that's a big if. The ETH merge is still on schedule, but it's also entirely likely it gets delayed. If so, I guess Lovelace will come in at those prices for the first 5 minutes until sold out :)

Also don't forget supply from ex-miners 3080 FHR and LHR in the millions.

Tens of millions. Nvidia is shipping ~13 million desktop GPUs a quarter. Which is why it's imperative they make Ampere obsolete as fast as possible, or else Lovelace sales will be terrible, as what happened to Turing.

  • Thanks for sharing. Bought one 😊

  • Got one thanks to replace my Ryzen 7 5800X, as I find it running too warm for my liking despite water cooling. Got the 5800X from the Klarna sale last year so should be able to sell with acceptable loss.

    • im in the same boat, but was going to hold off for the 5800X3D, this is tempting though.

    • how hot? so many conflicting reviews, I bought one (5800X) couple days ago, still waiting for the cooler, so still in box, should I return it? this is my first upgrade in ten years, been using my FX X8 all this time…..
