GPU notwithstanding, it's a pretty bells and whistles laptop, for not a whole heap of money.

Apparently may be soldered ram, so if you're a digital artist etc looking at the nice screen here, make sure your workload doesn't need 32gb.

Good thing you noticed that. However 16 GB is enough for most. It seems there's also a version with RTX3050

    Ah Once i loved 1:69 …

      Ah Once I loved 1080p …

    • +1

1:69 is a pretty tall screen.

  • -6

    1080p r u kiddin me !!!!!

  • -5

    1080p kills it.

Also 3050 is pretty weak compared to what's coming in a few months.

    • I don't believe this one has the RTX3050 does it? Just Vega iGP

    • -1

      Asus badge kills it

Buy and walk out if you do. No product care, internet security, upgrades or even MS office. Obvious for some but that is the whole reason they even sell laptops at 'below cost'.

The salesman won't even put the sale in their name. Ruins their sales targets.

    Man I hate that place….

Why so many advertisements for Gerry? I won't spend a cent in HM.

  • I'm planning to get the one in the link below tomorrow but is this Asus better? The price will be about the same…

    • I only glanced at the one you linked but I would say the Asus is better. Asus is a bit bigger though.

Depends if you need a 14" laptop or not.

      Acer 14" - Asus 15" screen size
Acer 15w TDP 8 Core AMD 5700u Zen 2 based CPU(designed for power efficiency) - Asus 45w+ TDP 8 Core AMD 5900H or HX Zen 3 based CPU(designed for performance)
Acer 1080P IPS screen (IPS is currently viewed as more power efficient then OLED in laptops) - Asus 1080p OLED (Very good colour accuracy and for use in bright environments)
Acer - GTX 1650 dGPU - Asus no dGPU at $1595 price point.
      Acer 1.39kg - Asus 1.65kg
      Acer 58wH battery - Asus 63wH battery

Note for $1798 the Asus is available with a slightly faster AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and an Nvidia 3050 dGPU.

If the Acer Swift X with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800u and Nvidia 3050ti, link below, was available with a local warranty it would be a much more attractive option

      • I've been burned by asus once. Have a look at the screen to see if it fits your use. I had bought a laptop with ips screen from Asus. The laptop was good with very good specs. The screen however was a major let down. I could only read from one angle. The glare was too much at any other angle. It was a major disappointment. I am not sure how their oled are. I have a dell currently as I sold the asus. I can say Dell hit my value mark

  • No dedicated GPU makes this deal a whole lot worse. It's an excellent CPU in a 15.6" form factor, so the dedicated GPU is a must (especially at this price point). A 3050 would be perfect, considering they've saved on cost with the screen, opting for a FHD panel instead of QHD.

Agreed. Whole reason I will pass and the fact it’s from Harvey Norman.

    • I mean this is just targeted at people that don't need a dgpu, of course. You try finding a very high end cpu, in a light shell with 16/512, and a really good panel too, and a good dgpu too…let alone qhd.

      • My current laptop is a Zephyrus G14 I picked up for cheaper than this.

        High-end CPU: Ryzen 7 4800HS — Geekbench 5 score 8029 multi-core

        Light shell: 1.6KG

        16/512GB: Yup

Really good panel: 2560 x 1440 panel - looks incredible due to the smaller screen size (14")

        Good dGPU: RTX 2060

        • A lot of that price premium would come from that 600nit OLED panel, not necessarily motherboard specs

I wouldn't expect an OLED laptop to have comparable performance at the same price point as one with an IPS panel, the same way an OLED TV will cost more than a QLED one

          • @brosk1s: Considering that OLED panel is a highlight of this laptop, FHD on a 15.6" laptop is much too low to be considered impressive…

This whole laptop is a weird case of, "Who are you trying to impress?" The OLED screen is a nice addition, but they've clearly had to sacrifice GPU performance, although, they still kept the Ryzen 9 so it's a bit of a mixed bag in this area.

            • @Zackeroo: The panel is very different. A 100% p3, 600nit oled is very expensive.

This is aimed at a creator where colour accuracy and gamut is more important than a gpu.

For doing say photoshop stuff, a gpu isn't overly critical.

              https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Photoshop-CC-2018…

              • @incipient: You say this is aimed at a creator, and then immediately contradict yourself by saying a GPU isn't overly critical for Photoshop.

A "creator" is a lot more than just Photoshop. Premiere Pro (or any video editing program) is 100% classified as what a "creator" would use for vlogs and YouTube videos.

Video editing heavily relies on the GPU, with rendering speed being the real differentiating factor here.

As a video creator myself, and owner of a popular YouTube Music channdl, I couldn't imagine myself using a device without a GPU to assist my work as a creator.

That being said, the panel on my G14 is not 100% P3, or OLED, regardless, it's still an excellent panel for editing, even though it is not my main display to edit on. I plug my G14 into a dual monitor setup using the USB-C ports.

I stand with what I said. This Asus is a confused laptop which doesn't know what it wants to be… If it had a 3050 on this model for a slightly higher price, it would be worth it (however it soon may not be as there are major GPU improvements coming soon)

    • There's a variant with a 3050, but that bumps the price up to $1798. I bought one for my partner last week, she seems pretty happy with it so far but time will tell.

  • 120hz ?
