    Really?

No need to pay that any more.

    • +17

3080ti are around 2200 at best, so not a terrible price. I think the real issue is how proprietary the components / build is and the inability to maintain it or upgrade parts outside the Dell ecosystem.

      • +16

I bought an Alienware Area51 PC from Dell on eBay in 2017. It still has the original motherboard, CPU, PSU and DVD drive, but I've upgraded the RAM, graphics card, drives, and even replaced the water cooler, all without any problems. It runs 24/7 and has been the most reliable and stable PC I have ever owned.

        • +1

Loved mine, you can even upgrade the motherboard and the CPU(as log as its R2 and not the later versions), just make sure the Motherboard is MSI to keep being able to change the RGB.

        • +1

It's all good until you realise how limiting the power draw is. Really gimps the CPU when doing anything cpu intensive, not saying it's absolute garbage but not ideal.

        • +1

I bought an alienware laptop for 5000 and it had to be repaired twice and broke again outside of warranty meanwhile i have three macbooks which all work fine with no repairs ten years later so i guess i cant trust dell anymore

      • Is this their policy? Change parts and your warranty is void?

        • I don't think they block it hrough legalese (although there's probably a condition somewhere) but rather it's just by virtue of use of non-standard components/peripherals/connections/etc. (based on what I've read about previous Dell gaming PCs).

          • @jace88: Nothing in them is proprietary. You can just unplug the GPU/CPU/RAM/HDD/SSD/Cooler/Fan/etc and plug in any off the shelf parts.

            • @MrFunSocks: I stand corrected. I haven't read through the R13's service manual but reflecting on the R12, I do remember there were a lot of upgradable components.

      • The CPU, RAM, GPU, HDDs, Coolers, Fans, etc are not proprietary though? You can upgrade pretty much everything apart from the motherboard extremely simply.

        • So you cant change mobo? Is it a proprietary size or something

    • +1

What you mean im curious and think this is an amazing deal

      • +10

You can get the GPU for around $2300, the CPU at around $570 and a z690 mobo for around $300. That comes to a total of $3170. You can easily buy the rest of the components for a grand or under. If you can build your own PC for less than a proprietary pre-built, then the pre-built is terrible value. What makes the pre-builts terrible in value is the questionable quality of components and the proprietary nature of parts.

        • +3

If you can build your own PC for less than a proprietary pre-built, then the pre-built is terrible value

Depends how much you value your time, especially when shit doesn't work…

          • +2

@1st-Amendment: Check out some of gamers nexus vids on various pre-builts. Just because someone else has put the parts together does not mean it will work flawlessly. Although you need to spend a couple of hours to build a pre-built and set up windows, at least you have full control over what you have made and there is plenty of material available on the internet for any troubleshooting.

            • +1

              @sTein0:

Just because someone else has put the parts together does not mean it will work flawlessly.

That's where warranties come into it.

              • @MrFunSocks: Every component you buy has a warranty too.

                • @sTein0: Sure, but it’s a lot easier when you’ve got a broken computer to just return the entire thing u der one warranty.

  • +2

    Looks too expensive

    • +1

Not according to 16 buyers so far.

  • +21

love how they sell a $6680 pc with a $23 keyboard and $11 mouse

    • Because it is Dell.

    • +9

The included mouse and keyboard is just to keep you started. They expect all gamers to already have their gaming mouse and keyboard.

      • I expect for nearly $7,000 I get a decent mouse and keyboard.

  • +1

Just did a quick PCPartpicker build with similar parts and came to about 4.8k thats with DDR5 at non sold out prices (so realistically 5.2k).
So decent deal considering you dont have to build and 4.8k/5.2k is excl delivery.

  • +5

$4.5k and only 16gb of ram!

    • +7

And 512? They couldn’t spring for 1tb of ssd?

      • Yeah the RAM is lacking but it is DDR5 dual rank. And the SD is a very fast pcie 4.0 drive and there is another pcie 4.0 nvme bay free.

  • -1

Is this graphic card LHR ? On Dell website when you choose 3080 says LHR but not when you select this model. Other websites say 3080 ti is LHR , can anyone confirm ?

    • +1

      All 3080Ti cards are LHR.

Edited as I skipped the 3080.

    • +4

      All 3080ti's are LHR

  • +5

750W PSU is not ideal for 12700K and 3080 Ti…

    • Yeh its strange when their older R10 & R11 uses 1000W PSU

    • And if you look at the final photo it doesn't look like you could replace it with a standard size psu

      • But I bet for most when it comes to upgrade time in the future, they will just sell the whole machine, don't think anyone would bother changing anything inside.

    • +3

Do you really think dell would include a psu not capable of running the gear in it? They're not in the business of building PC's that fail, just ones that are hot, inefficient and too expensive, but they do work.

      • -1

Then when the PSU explodes, you'll have to source one from them as an ATX psu won't fit in the case.

    • +5

It's a platinum PSU which delivers power very efficiently and plenty for this setup. Dell systems can't be overclocked. If overclocking was possible then it may have been an issue.

      • +2

Dont let logic get in the way of a good shit post

        • +2

I didn't neg you mate. I got your sarcasm. Very true.

  • 16GB RAM?

  • +3

For that price you would want 32GB of RAM, but hey it is DDR5

  • -1

    Where's the deal?
You can easily build an equivalent PC for the same price.

    • +2

Seems this has been tried and tested. Happy to be proven otherwise.

      • Market is constantly changing, 12 months ago youd be on the money, in the current market where GPUs have dropped a bit these are no longer the value steal they were back when the GPU shortage was at its peak. Even if you were to spend $500 or so over that price youd still be better off building your own cause the thermals and upgradability of these absolutely suck.

    • +1

How easy? Can't even source anything available.

      • +3

        https://i.ibb.co/p4HgKnX/gffgh.png
im sure you could get these parts or similar cheaper else ware i just used PCCG as an example just a rough example, note the 2080 ti has been cheaper this part week on multiple occasions this is just the cheapest in stock 3080 ti i could quickly find.

I see the downvotes coming it without a chance for me to even respond, don't you just love the Ozbargain spirit.

        • Planning to build my rig hopefully soon, now I really wanting to stay away with Alienware. thank you.

          BTW - I didn't neg you.

          • +1

@Fredfloresjr: Alienware pre-built gaming PCs are among the best deals you can get atm. They're almost always cheaper than the cost of the parts combined, and come with a great warranty.

        • +1

So….4434 for unassembled parts, excluding delivery.

Also excluding warranty (not that I rate Dell 1yr warranty very highly in price comparison)

The price seems on with a BYO system then? I'm not sure I understand, this is targeted toward people who can't or won't build their own system.

          • @BargainBogan99: Thanks for highlighting this. Back to Alienware. Done.

          • @BargainBogan99: Faster ram 4800mhz vs 4400mhz
            Better PSU 750w vs 850w
Much longer warranty with the 1tb HDD i had to include having the shortest warranty at 2 years and the PSU the longest at 10 years

^ the warranty point alone would make me steer clear from alienware.
Im unsure if anything this time for Alienware is proprietary but that's another huge issue is something is and prevants upgrades in the future and

But im not here to debate just states that this still isn't a deal by any definition.

I messaged up and added the wrong case Its meant to be the P300A which is the same price as the one i added.

  • Hate the total price, but it's pretty good for today's market. Have an upvote.

  • +1

Good luck with the thermal throttling on this

  • +3

Will this play Candy Crush Saga?

  • all that money and only 16gb of ram. also that SSD isn't even a 7000mbps gen 4 nvme drive.

    • Explain??????????

    • +1

There is not such thing as good value for specs, Macs cost way more than this

  • +1

Paid 2.9k for r12 on black Friday.

And later it is upgraded to r13 for free because of shortage of cpu … I love Dell!

    • What a deal! Have you received your R13??

I still havent received my R12 from Black Friday!

      • +1

        Yes … before new year

        • thats great!
Dell suppoprt are just dragging things with me..ive been told to wait until next month for my R12 -_-"

        • oh and btw, did Dell give you the free R13 upgrade with the 3080 or 3080 TI?
Do you mind sharing the specs? I'd like to know.
Ive asked Dell support to give me an R13, but they keep deflecting!

          • +1

            @shakir99: No, I paid for r12 with 3080ti so I still get 3080ti in r13

          • +1

            @shakir99: what i paid is for 3080ti + i5 10400f + 16g ram

            What i get is 3080ti + i7 12700kf + 16g

Dell told me free upgrade to r13 with 12700kf, thats all

            • @raydebug: thats a fantastic free upgrade!
I asked for the same, and was told that I have to wait another 3-4 weeks for an R12 -_-

    • +1

What CPU did you get for R13?

      • 3080ti, same as in r12

      • Cpu sorry, 12700kf

  • +1

I think 12 months ago youd be smart to buy a prebuilt from a big manfuacturer like dell due to the GPU shortage, theyre pretty crappy but in the scheme of things thats the price you had to pay to get into PC gaming. I think we are past that stage now and these pcs are once again a terrible idea.

  • +7

Why wouldn't you buy this instead.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334292295412

    Better CPU
    more ram
    larger SSD.

Only thing is the 3080 is non Ti.

With PLUSJAN5 it comes out at AU $3,739.44

    • Actually a decent find. $3200!!!

If it wasn't butt ugly I'd be buying this right now

Edit: my eBay shows take 20 percent off 3900 price?

      • +1

        Yeh I just saw that

        with code PLDESW AU $3,149.00

        • That's actually pretty insane. Full 12900k pc for about $1100 over current rtx3080 10Gb prices

        • Now THIS is what I consider a PC deal!

$3,149 for a PC with better specs.

You could buy TWO of these and still be cheaper than Dell.

  • -3

    Never buy Dell pre-built.

    Ever.

    • Care to share your awful experience with us please?

      • -2

I think it started when his father left home…

      • +1

he watched a GN video once, now he is a pro

  • I liked the old design much better. Definately felt more solid and better engineered. This new model has massive amounts of wasted space and yet they couldn't put in a standard size psu like they did before.

  • +2

    Imagine buying this.

  • +1

Back in the day, when I had $$, I bought an Alienware Box. Dell Alienware Andromeda X51.

    Actually, it was a Graysonline/Dell Return/Refurb, Auction - Whatever…

The build quality was insane, and the components for the time were excellent.

And the fact that it arrived on a customer Pallet, which had to be lifted by a forklift and carried in by 2 peeps.

And the Wooden box and the packaging, cray.

I'm actually using the Alienware KB to type this.

Anyway, sold it after 6 years.

    Just a story.

  • -1

I just built a far better PC for the same price.

    https://pcpartpicker.com/b/yh4nTW

  • +1

I got four of these from Dell in the last sale for $2900 each. Free upgrade since they ran out of stock on the R12.
For this price, probably not worth it tbh.

    • What CPU did you get with the R13's?

      • exactly same as this one i7-12700KF

        • Wow, very lucky. Congrats on the upgrade.

    • did i read that right? 4?!?

I ordered one R12, and Dell are fussing to get me an upgrade!

I still havent received my R12, and when i asked for the R13 upgrade, i was told they could only offer me the base model with the 3080, not the 3080 TI..

Did you get 4 units of the 3080 TI model?! Thats a massive loss for Dell!

  • What I don't get is no Thunderbolt in 2022!
