AMD Quad Core Computers 30-50% off In-Store Only @Harvey Norman

41

Hey guys, i couldn't find this listed(surprising!) but you can buy an AMD quad core pc/laptop and get a guaranteed 30-50% off(HN normal RRP by the looks) in store only, going by the prices online you have to visit HN in person to find out just how much, but if you manage to find something 50% off, it's pretty much the same deal as last year's popular "2-4-1 AMD laptop" where i bought 2 AMD netbooks(anyone still remember netbooks??) for the price of 1
Ends on Sunday 15 April
ps "excludes Apple" someone @HN marketing should have been told Apple don't use AMD cpus! haha!

So in reality 5% off RRP, HN always ramp their prices up :-)

    • Yeah I doubt there will be any bargains there. Would still be cheaper buying them online.

    • lots of peeps said the same in last years 2-4-1 promo http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52934!

      • +5

        And they were right.

      • and the price of 1 lap costed twice as much in HN during that deal

    • +2

A couple years ago I had a friend buy a $600 pc from HN for $2000.
Saying 5% off RRP is VERY generous of you.

    • Only some time.

      • +9

The only good deal HN has for me is that their ENTRANCE comes with a free EXIT. ;)

        • +1

Not really last time they have a few good one remember the buy 1 get 1 free digital camera and buy 1 get 1 free laptop?

          And $99 HP tablet?

        • Superforver, you get negs, even after mentioning $99 hp touchpad. Hardly normal does shit deals 99% of the time. (apart from their recent game sale).

  • +5

as long as you dont get dicked

  • Sometime they have good deal but this time if they said 30-50% instead of all 50% off may not a good one.

    • +3

Especially if you're buying a quad core with the intention of doing some serious video rendering, gaming, etc. If you want a first rate CPU these days then unfortunately Intel is the only option.

      • +4

No idea why your comment got a neg vote, must have been some AMD fanboy, let me fix that for you. :)

        • +5

People downvoted me because they still think it's early 2006 and AMD is a misunderstood underdog. Before you downvote me, at least have the decency to do a quick Google search and find out how badly AMD chips are outperformed by Intel in real world applications.

I generally just find it easier not to vote on peoples comments if I'm not update with my info, it can sometimes cause people to get the wrong idea about products and make bad purchases.

A family member bought a lappy with an E-350 in it not so long ago…OMFG it was abysmal. That is all. :)

  • +6

popped in today , the sale is waste of time, even at 50% off its over priced!

    • Not really like last time 50% off some bought quite a good laptop at that time for around $300.

But this time may not a good deal.

      • i was broswering for the 50% off laptop, thinking of upgrading my wifes one. There was only 1 50% off , mine you its was ticketed at $1999 reduce to $1000. After checking out the specs, i could have got the same spec laptop almost half the price of that!

people who will actually use quad core, generally know enough about computers to build them themselves lol

    • Yep, I agree. Either that or they just buy it for bragging rights. >_>
and even if it is the 2nd one they usually have enough money to waste it on HN's RRP, lol.

    • I was going to post about how I use a quad core and love it's usefulness for quad-analysing tracks in Serato.

Then I remembered I know how to build a PC. You make a good point!

"ps "excludes Apple" someone @HN marketing should have been told Apple don't use AMD cpus! haha!"

That's probably for the benefit of customers. If they didn't put it up they'd get a large number coming in and saying they want an Apple on special. They'll still get some who don't read the fine print, but it might turn a few off, plus makes it easier for the salesman to say "see, it's excluded".

I remember last time some knobs on Ozbargain trying to argue that Macbooks with a AMD / Ati graphics chip should be half price haha

      • +5

        That's not a knob. That's an ozbargainer.

The only ever good deal from them is the HP Touchpad firesale, but since it was limited quantity, it was still crap.

  • As above, this is no deal. Even if you took 50% off the below model you could still have it built for cheaper with better quality parts.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/pryon-pry-g7124-gaming-deskto…

In fact, I'm sure you could build any computer for less than half the RRP of any Harvey Norman computer.

    • +2

er, that comp is an intel you wouldnt even get anything off

      • Err I was giving an example of one of their 'highend' machines, and that even if 50% was taken off that, that would still not be a deal - it further highlights how poor this deal is.

    • $4200 for some BS build without a monitor. Sounds right for GH.

completely off topic…but i needed new fridge, went to HN, the guy was offering a changhong XXX, ticket price $699, said the display stock is last one and willing to give for $500, went to good guys, grabbed catalogue, their price $574, or $499 after cash back, new stock…told them HN thing…GG straight away said they will bring the price to $500 including delivery, and then can claim the $75 cash back, final price after i get the cash back will be $425…oh yeah…dont buy changhong, mind u ended up not being my choice :( i wanted a westinghouse!

    • Typical Hardly Normal prices hey? :)

    • got another story for you went to HN and was ready to get 2 tv, ask for the best price on the LG 3D LED TV. the price listed was RRP $1699, so i ask the sales guy politely what is teh best price if i get two. he said that is the best price, i said but thats the RRP no one charges RRP those day. Then i check out their home page and it had it listed there for $1599. So i point it out to him, he said thats is a online price only! what a tosser!!!. I told him he was a waste of time thats why retail is going down with idoits sales guys like him! So i just pop next door , JB HIFI. Went straight to the tv section and told the sales guy i want 2 tv now, can u offer the best price. With in 5 mins i had the tv quoted $1299 each, another 5 mins i had it down to $1250 with free delivery too! and mind you JB had it ticketed at $1699 too!

      • Believe it or not thats what they are trained to say. I used to work for VideoPro/Sony Centre and every morning we had stupid role play meetings and were told thats what you say. The idea is not to drop your pants straight away as they are just going to leave (like you did) and take the price elsewhere. The salesman may have asked if this was your first time looking if you said yes then he knows that what ever price he gives you you are pretty much going to leave and take it elsewhere. He should have been a little more tactful tho so at least you come back after shopping around. Its a crazy game of cat and mouse :/

  • Some of the computers are a good price after being marked down, but there were a fair few I noticed the other day that were still too expensive. I would feel terrible selling somebody a computer so overpriced.

  • I had a look. Nothing even remotely close to a bargain.

  • my heart is beating faster when i see HN web sites, why ? …. oh no just because i have too much coffee … not their 50% off

On their TV add there is NO mention that this is AMD exclusive either - HN does it again with their pathetic, deceptive advertising.

    • On their TV add there is NO mention that this is AMD exclusive either - HN does it again with their pathetic, deceptive advertising.

I'm pretty sure I saw their annoying ON LAPTOPS WITH AMD PROCESSORS ONLY like a "in your face" T&C.
      It was definitely there!
However, I don't recall it being AMD Quad Cores only.

      • Yes just watched it on TV now it did say AMD only.

  • HN up to their usual tricks again.
The models that they are advertising are exclusive to them (they have exclusivity in australian retail on any OEM product featuring AMD A6 and A8 CPUs), thus they are always at an insane RRP, allowing them to claim this type of discount time after time…

  • So if i get a amd laptop at 1186 i only pay less than 600?

    • +1

They will price up their 600 laptop to 1200 and let you have 50%.
