The stock price is $999, is this really a discount?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/collections/mobile-phones/samsung-…

As it is, the phone is overpriced - it needs to be at least $100 off. Otherwise, just get a s21!

    • This deal is saying the phone is free is you get $69/m contract.

      • +1

The deal actually says you get it for $1

    • -2

It a $998 discount, so works out to be $1 when purchased Optus $69 24-month SIM only plan.

    • +2

But when I look into the contract T&C for termination, seems like you only pay 50% of the remaining plan x months left so let's just say cancel right away, does it means only pay a termination payment of $828 + $1 for the phone?
      ?

      • +1

Not good value compared to the old JB/Telstra cancellation fee of $595. Nor the real value of the phone.

Just fake a trade-up for the latest Samsung deal. $449 with the newsletter/loyalty vouchers + $50 worth of accessories & $200 Buds2 all free.

Obligatory HN downvote. & not a great deal as usual from Gerry. I think people should learn to boycott them.

Nothing against OP for posting this for those who still need an all-inclusive overpriced locked-in monthly plan for some reason.

        • I would like to know how to fake one as my S9+ is international model and after download the apps, it is not on their list. If you know how kindly message me. Thanks

          • @JCRALLYART: Not sure, some people have had luck with international models reading thru some of the deals. Try downloading a trustworthy APK mirror if it exists. Otherwise, just get a cheap used eligible phone for the bonus or borrow someone else's, as I'm doing.
At the moment the app's necessary credit card verification system is broken and has been for days.

        • Hi, what do you mean faking a trade up.
I don't have a phone to trade so could you please give me some more info.
Do you mean that you can get the S21 FE for $449?

          Thanks

          • @noddypiper: You need a phone to trade to download the Trade-up app and run tests. You can see the value of different phones on the Samsung store if you want to buy something cheap to get the bonus.
            Otherwise it's $749.

Expect quite a few good deals on the S21 family with the S22 release in Feb

    • +1

Not sure if you are aware but this is the FE which was only released this month

      • +2

I assume the point was the non FE may work out to be cheaper even though it’s technically older.

    • +1

I’m sure I’ll be corrected but I can’t imagine them being much better than the Samsung store trade up deals in the lead up to Christmas… those crazy promotions and loyalty bonuses etc have left me wondering why bother with any of the other plan dead from telcos and other retailers.

If you go to JB, they're doing the phone discounted by $600 on a 12 month $69 plan. So was $999, now $299 if you go on the Telstra $69 plan for 12 months. Port in/new number only. Might be better for those who don't want to go on a 24 month contract.

    • Do you have any more details?

      • -1

What if you cancel after getting plan? Do you have to pay whole yr?

  • $69 Optus plans includes 80gb per month, include 5g. If you exceed your data, service will be slowed down to 1.5Mbps until start of next payment cycle.

    • The 12 months JB/Telstra plan is exactly the same ie 80GB p/m with speed limited to 1.5mbits if you go over.
To me it seems crazy to lock into a 24 month contract these days unless you are certain you'll be happy because most people's data use increases over time and generally plans gets cheaper with more data I'd hate to me stuck on this plan if the new normal becomes 120GB for $50/$60 p/month in a years time.
Really you should be able to get any phone for max $500 if you sign up to a $69 plan for 24 months given their costs are small and it's mostly profit anyway.

  • +1

far from free unless you are normally paying $828 a year for 80gb sim deal, total cost $1656, locked in 2 years, free phone

    or

JB sign up each year to $69pm , 80GB plan + $500gc, sell GC for $450 = $378 x 2 years = $756, leaving you $900 to buy any phone you want, can also get $10 port in credit which would bring the cost of the sim down to $59pm/$258 per year

  • +3

    $828 cancellation fee..

at that price you may as well purchase the device outright and put it on one of the Optus resellers with a high data inclusion PAYG plan.

  • +5

Saw $1 and started reading, then switched off when I got to Harvey Norman

    • +8

Yes I'll never buy anything from Harvey Norman ever again, the only thing they'll ever be good for will be using their prices to get another company to price match but let's be honest it's rarely HN who have the best price anyway. Hope you go broke Gerry you pure scumbag!

  • Just asked the work for a new phone and its between the S21 and Note 20… Might wait and see if they will give me a S22 when it comes out

  • +13

Because it's Harvey Norman. They are crooks.

  • +1

S21 plain vanilla is probably the worst phone, the display sucks, the camera is also below average. It's far better to buy other options like Oppo, OnePlus, etc

    • I have a Note 9 still, between the S21 plain and Note 20 plain, my thoughts is getting the Note 20 (can also get a Pixel 6 but doesn't seem to be that nice). Keep in mind this is free. Will ask if I put it off for a month if I can get a S22 but doubt they will get it so soon..

      • +1

I can't speak to the Note 20 but I recently got a S21 (base model) as a work phone. It's adequate but there are a few things I dislike about it - coming from a 2y.o. iPhone 11 it's a downgrade in most ways (and I am no Apple fan!). In particular the S21's battery life is substandard, it gets excessively hot when using the camera and the camera quality (esp. videos) is not good enough for a $1249 phone. The fingerprint scanner operation is also far from perfect, also being under display it makes finding decent screen protectors very difficult.

    • +1

Even the plus version is trash.

  • +2

Boycott Gerry Harvey. Tax dollar stealing scumbag.

  • +1

This is getting interesting, they just drop the original price $100 more, I wonder if they willing to negotiate the discount on 256g version, willing to folk out $100 price different for double storage and more ram.
