Seems like a pretty incredible deal, purchase a lighter for $5.60 and get a $50 Weber Store Gift Card.

  • Any fix for the receipt already used? Even all new info and a blank image gets the error

  • Is anyone still getting that critical error thing?

    • Yes - bought one on the weekend and just tried to claim, but getting the WordPress "critical error". Very frustrating!

  • Whoa, I've tried calling BIC up and now they hang up after a while :D

Gonna send them back to Coles.

  • So has no one else's gone to $0 value if not used in 72 hours (well a week in my case)? Is it just me?

    • Someone got a give card with a 5c
They may be giving same gift cards to multiple people since alot of the items are $49.95

  • So based on the above do we assume they are recycling gift cards and didn't buy/consign as many as the promotion required? So if the first person hasn't claimed within 72 hours, they send out the same code again to someone else as you've effectively forfeited your right to it by not claiming in the 72 hours (as I think that was in the original Ts and Cs).

As an update, I got the code email for my first two (of 3) which were submitted at the same time on the 13th, claimed both, received the voucher for one and spent it alongside a voucher from Shopback (for anyone with cashback credit they have weber store gift vouchers as well).

    • It doesn't really matter if they are recycling gift cards or not; I think the 72 hours limitation was in the original T&Cs (but not implemented well)? If so, they have just put a fix in place.

  • I have not had a single code come through for the 12 outstanding claims from last week.
Frankly I don't care if I can't stack it and they come through one by one as long as they do. Still plenty of stuff to buy $50 at a time

    • The intent of the promotion (delivered very poorly) was for the $50 to be a discount on BBQ purchases only.

      • +1

And? Does it still excuse them for not delivering the codes within the timeframe? Your use of the term "scam" is more ridiculous. The OP rang the Weber head office to confirm whether the gidtcard can be used on accessories and they said it can be.
Don't know who stuffed up but it's certainly not a case of consumers "scamming" as you have put it

        • The intent was stated. Some of us have chosen to look for loopholes.

It isn't a Weber promotion; it is a BIC promotion.
Weber probably don't care; they will get paid by BIC for all the redemptions.

          • @GG57: Conveniently disregard that Weber head office themselves confirmed it can be used on accessories. If it does work, whose fault is it? How are the consumers supposed to know whether it's a stuff up in the T&C or the giftcard? Lol

            • @dji1111111: Missing the point of my comment, but I'll state it again:
It isn't a Weber promotion; it is a BIC promotion.
Weber probably don't care; they will get paid by BIC for all the redemptions.

Most consumers would look at what the 'offer' entails. Indeed, it was detailed in this post for those that didn't read the T&Cs.

              • @GG57: Haha ok it's BIC running the promotion. How do you know if Weber cares? lol That is a lot of speculation when you don't even have the first hand knowledge.

Even disregarding the use of giftcard on BBQ only vs accessories:
What about their change of process in how you redeem the giftcard?
What about their change of how often they send out the code? Nothing in the original T&C said you can only claim one code every 72 hours?
What about the string of BS technical errors such as receipt used error when they actually promote that you can enter as many times as you want?

You are strangely being very defensive about them when they have been horrific in the whole scheme of things.
I have called out another person for labeling this promotion a scam and I will just as much call you out for labelling people here as scamming.

              • +2

@GG57: The original terms and conditions mentioned nothing in regards to having to use the gift card towards a BBQ purchase, unless I'm mistaken? Even the banner on their website showed, and still shows, the Weber Gift Cards in their retail form like you'd buy from a store. While you're absolutely right it probably wasn't an intent of the promotion, I don't think (most) people here were intent on "scamming" or looking for a loop hole in the same vein. I think BIC and Weber probably both had a say in the promo at the end of the day. The idea was to drive more sales Weber's way so I doubt they'd be making BIC wear the full cost of every GC, if any.

I do wonder if any of the in store promotional material mentions an instant $50 Gift Card. I don't think spitting the dummy here is the right thing, and certainly most of us shouldn't feel aggrieved by the situation, but I also don't think they should be entirely let off the hook changing things so often.

It's been poorly implemented and while some have gone too far, some claiming they would refund the lighters after obtaining vouchers, or refunding them just to rebuy so they could get more receipts, as a whole whichever company they've hired to run this promotion have failed miserably.

  • +5

I love how they keep changing the ts and c's, like now they don't provide a voucher but you are suppose to nominate a bbq and organise payment via an email to them, yet the initial TS and vs and still main page still says buy a bbq via the Weber store (online or in store).

Clearly breaching the rules when it comes to competitions and promotions

    https://www.gamblingandracing.act.gov.au/industry/lotteries/…

Pretty sure they aren't submitting and getting approval for each of the ts and c's changes they are implementing, after the initial promotion permit number was approved "Permit number ACT TP 21/01896.2"

Trade promotions have the following rules for variations once approved.

    Variation to approval
Any variation to the application after the Commission has commenced its processing must be submitted through an
Application for an Amendment to an Approval to Conduct a Lottery form and be accompanied by the determined fee for a
variation. The Commission must approve a variation to the promotion before any amendment can be implemented.

    • +3

They are asking for a fine

      • -1

Don't worry I know youse can do a class action and help the legal fraternity with a 5-6 figure + payday hehe :)

    • +1

Interestingly, the archived version of the T&C's on the Wayback machine from the 13th has the permit listed as "ACT TP 21/01896" (without the ".2"), so perhaps two "revisions" have been approved since then.

    • I can't see that in on their website that we now need to nominate a bbq rather than receive a voucher - game over if that's the way forward

    • +1

Hats off to them for finding a way to close the loophole.

The promo was always for $50 off a bbq. Whether it’s done through a Weber voucher or by emailing them the nominated bbq they’ve met their obligation.

Now I suggest they reinvest the $9.5m they saved in a competent marketing team.

      • How do you know this wasn't their plan all along. Free marketing.

  • +3

I wonder if BIC are required to be PCI compliant? because emailing credit card details via email is NOT PCI compliant
"PCI DSS Requirement 4.2 states that credit card information must not be captured, transmitted, or stored via end-user messaging technologies (like email)"

What happens if people want to pay cash? Bank card? Visit a store? What a completely borked promotion by BIC. The marketing team are completely useless and should be packing pens instead of using a computer

  • +1

Incompetent staff also botched up the total prize pool by a few grand. Although 10mil is a big budget, apparently 199,995 $50 vouchers are budgeted for

    • +1

They have also screwed up Webers reputation
I bet you Weber does not want anything to do with Bic anymore

  • Now getting a Wordpress critical error on the site when trying to register. Lol bic screwed up big time with this

  • I received my code (2 weeks after registering) on Friday. Just preordered an accessory over the phone. Looking at the comments here I might rethink my strategy to load up on lighters and just consider myself lucky.

    • Did you order from a Weber retail/official reseller store or from the Weber sales hotline?

      • Retailer - the one in Bayswater.

  • +2

This has turned into a complete dog's dinner. You're better off buying a Weber bbq from thegoodguyscommercial or other equivalent service. I'm out. Lighters have been returned.

  • Just bought the $5.60 bic lighter today from Coles (in-store) and put through my claim maybe an hour ago. However the wait time doesn't look good going off many comments here.

    • If you've bought the lighter for the $50 off the rrp of a bbq, then you're probably better off using corporate discount. If its for accessories, provided you can still use the vouchers for accessories, then it might be a good option.

      • It was mainly for the accessories so hopefully it can still work on accessories. But what is the corporate discount?

        • Weber Family Q for $670 instead of $789, so around 15%

  • no issues with the 'use within 72hr' limit..
had a code come in on Fri arvo, and on Mon lunchtime… after reading comments on here, i jumped on the site and used both (2 in one transaction) for accessories

    • Six different items I am after and all out of stock. Weber pls…

      • +1

Give a physical store a call and preorder the items you want

  • I bought 3 products on one receipt. Registered 2 of them and now I’m getting receipt used error.

Called Bic and they said there’s nothing they can do. It’s a “technical issue”. They’re also only approving 1 claim a week. This is getting ridiculous.

    • ‘on one receipt’ = one entry

A person may enter the Promotion as many times as they like, with multiple receipt numbers

    • -1

Yeh 1 receipt per entry was part if the t and C.
Frustrating though that you really wouldn't expect all people to have to read t and C to actually understand the promotion limitations

  • +4

I contacted Coles this morning to request that they look into this BIC promotion as I haven't received any correspondence or instant wins.

  • The facebook ads no longer display the $50 weber voucher

  • -1

anyone had any issue returning the lighters?

    • Nope, but looks like people might do now that Coles have been contacted.

  • +1

Still getting WordPress errors when trying to submit. Looks like they've absolutely nuked the website to stem the bleed…

Has anyone received their codes today? Still waiting on mine from the 17th Jan.

    • No codes. Going to return the lighters

  • How long do the $50 vouchers take to come? Looks like they have fundamentaly changed the mechanism by which to use the $50 (no longer a $50 Weber store voucher - somehow redeemed through Bic directly?)

Can anyone fill me in on their experience? Cheers

  • Returned all mine and.complained to coles head office

So if i get my 30 codes no harm done. Otherwise not holding my breath

    • Did you have to explain to the coles staff?
      5 at a time?

      • +2

        Returned them all at once
Told them about the stuff up in promo

        • Had no issue returning all 15 at once either after I explained promotion failure and mentioning head office to return

Originally paid with a gift card so got 15x 5.60 gift cards back

    • Will be returning mine too. This has gone to no-man's land.

  • +2

Managed to get one voucher after registering 4 receipts and waiting nearly 3 weeks. Went in to a physical store who were happy to accept the voucher and gave us a heads up that all Weber products due for a PRICE HIKE of 10% next week which will make the $50 off virtually pointless if you actually are buying a BBQ.
Worst promo ever! Will be returning the unopened lighters and sticking to matches from now on.

    • Did your code/voucher come through this week?

    • That's good news though that they were happy to accept them in store though. I've received 3 access codes out 16 registrations so hoping i'll be able to go in store and stack them once they all come through… if i ever get them 😑

    • I'm waiting for access codes to come through. So what's the deal now, are we still getting the $50 gift card or not?

      • Yeah, a bit confused with what people are receiving at the moment. Some seem to be getting gift vouchers and the others 'BBQ only via Bic' vouchers. Keen to know if anyone's received codes this week at all.

        • I received two "Reward Access Codes" on Tuesday, pretty sure from ones i registered on the 13th. I did the rest on the 18th so anyone's guess when and what I'll receive.

          Edit: just received another 3

          • @Chickenleg: Just received all outstanding access codes today from a submission on the 17th, all of them have the new terms posted below. Have submitted one just to give it a try, but looks like they spent a week fixing everything in their favour.

            • @doweyy: Yeah i'm so confused about what we're actually going to receive now 😕

              • @Chickenleg: I suspect what type of voucher you receive depends on when you submitted your claim. I wonder if they're bound by the T&Cs at the time of submission. i.e. Submitted prior to the ~13th Jan, $50 voucher. Submitted after, 'Bic BBQ only voucher'.

  • +2

Haha, just tried calling their 1800 number and it just says upload your receipt or email them and they'll get back to you. Can't even speak to anyone!

  • I just received this:
Please note – once you activate the Reward Access Code the $50 Weber voucher reward for use towards a Weber BBQ purchase will be administered by the Buy & Win with BIC team. You will be sent an email requesting your Weber BBQ choice, payment details for the remaining balance of the Weber BBQ less the $50 Weber voucher reward, as well as delivery details. The Weber voucher reward is valid for 72 hours only. Please do not activate your Reward Access code until you are ready to redeem your $50 Weber voucher on a Weber BBQ.

    • I got the same. Unless they prove their incompetence again, it looks like game over.

God knows how long before they send the voucher email after you claim lol

  • Not sure what changed but the T&C now .3
    Permit number ACT TP 21/01896.3

  • +1

This promotion has gone from 'Buy our product and we'll offer you something to build our brand by associating with Weber' to 'Now that you have given us some information we also want your financial information, but we know we didn't tell you about that at the start'. That is a big switch.

Not getting a voucher or having a voucher that gives little value in comparison to buying Weber BBQ on a sale elsewhere is one thing, it doesn't matter so much. Getting some personal details first and then a couple of weeks later asking for financial information without forewarning about that at the very start is a whole other thing. This looks terrible. To me it looks much worse on Weber by their association with BiC for this promotion than on BiC: to me Weber have a lot more resting on their reputation. Maybe Weber could be a lot more selective with who can use their branding.

    • +2

It's a complete circus show. Yet their website still shows a picture of Weber store giftcard lol
Very much like a typical liar who has to keep changing their story to not get caught out but always ends up leaving a trail of inconsistencies since they are too busy making up crap on the fly

  • Just got sent 10x reward codes which were submitted on the 17th..

    • +1

I just tested one but still waiting for the voucher email come through.
It will be interesting to see if it's the digital giftcard like before or purely an email with details on how to submit your choice of BBQ as per the revised T&Cs

      • Let us know what you end up getting. I've got 14 codes from my 16 submissions now but if they just send an email back then it's all pretty pointless.

        • Just as I expected, still nothing from them. What a joke this is turning into.

          • +1

@dji1111111: I just received my last 2 access codes so have them all now but haven't tried redeeming them yet.

Bic Australia also replied to me on Facebook this morning after asking wtf was going on with the codes a week ago:
"we're working on this verification problem. Our team will be in contact with you soon!"

  • Finally received one code but definitely not what I expected.

    • I got this email too but was able to buy accessories at a physical store.

      • so you received the gift cards after doing the claim?

      • +1

Did you receive a gift card or a voucher after claiming? How long did it take to arrive post claim?

        • I have to apologise here; I mis-read yours. I didn't get the "Please Note" section in mine.

    • The wording has changed slightly, this is one I received which when redeemed gave me a garden variety $50 voucher that could be used against anything at the weber store:

      • It's very different now. I.e. they want to administer the purchase themselves.

        • +1

I think it's too much for them to now be asking people to email them payment details. Especially when they had nothing of the sort written when people originally registered. I think switcheroo in this case is bad form.

          • +2

@g1: Not to mention even if someone wanted to use the voucher to buy a BBQ, given how incompetent they are they will likely either stuff up or take forever before you receive the ordered BBQ. Would not trust them to do anything right the first time lol

            • +2

@dji1111111: Why would one go through a third party to buy a Weber? Ridiculous. Like I said before, if the vouchers aren't stackable, then you're better using corporate discount for your bbq.

  • +1

Give the Gambling and Racing a call.

Tell them that they shouldn't have approved the tnc as it is different winnings. Say that one is a gift card that can be used online and instore with a 3 year expiry and the other is a 72 hours voucher.

    https://www.gamblingandracing.act.gov.au/industry/lotteries/…

    • Good reference.

They have a form that people can use to lodge a complaint:
      https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/feedback-and-complai…

      • +7

        I've submitted one.

'BIC Buy & Win promo encouraged purchases of BIC lighters and multiple entrances into the competition in which you would receive $50 Weber gift cards upon registering your receipt. The original terms had no exclusion for multiple entries, made no mention of needing to purchase the Weber goods through BIC and also stated that the registration of the promo would be dated to your purchase date rather than the date they approve the claim.

Since then, they have changed their terms and conditions multiple times and are not honouring their side of the promo. They are now asking for any use of the Weber gift cards to be through BIC email ordering where they will act as a 'middle man'.

The permit number is ACT TP 21/01896.2, however as it has changed multiple times - I'm not sure what it currently is.

I purchased my promotional items prior to the changing terms.'

        • I did also. I doubt anything will come out of it but it's just my way of giving them the finger for stuffing around.
Also added that they now require consumers to handover confidential payment details and that my purchase decision was solely based on the promotion so it's unfair to continue to vary the terms and conditions.

  • +2

So after more than 2 weeks I finally got my 2 "Reward access codes"

I redeemed both, and haven't received anything for more than a week.
Given I had 72 hours to redeem my reward, I wonder if my time is already up??

This promotion is appallingly badly run.

  • +3

Coles said I couldn't return my lighters. Lol what a s#itshow

    • Sounds like a scam to me

    • I prefaced that head office said to return after complaining

    • What was their reasoning?

      • +2

The manager said it was classed as change of mind.. I went to a different Coles this arvo and returned them no questions.

    • I had this problem too but for a different reason. The idiot at the counter said I can't return because I bought them for a promo. Here I thought being truthful would be fine and explained how the promo terms and conditions changed and hence why I want to return them and the idiot clearly lacked the iq to understand as he said I could have claimed something from the promo and returning them afterwards. Are you for real?

Went to the Coles a few mins drive away and told them change of mind as the reason and was able to return without any issues. What a stupid system.

      • "…he said I could have claimed something from the promo and returning them afterwards…"

I'm pretty sure that some have done exactly that.

        • For earlier purchases maybe, but not for anything purchased after they changed the T&Cs around. There's nothing worth claiming under the new promo and that's if you even get any response from them after submitting the claim LOL

  • Been a week and still haven't receive anything. Any update on what's going on?
