What is everyone's thoughts on buying a ceiling fan with E27 lamp holders, versus the increasingly common integrated LED light ?

    • Since you can get cheap LED e27 lights (and smart ones too) I'd go for them

Are the other one's the expensive r7s ones?

      • My only hesitation with E27 ceiling fan lights is they tend to be on their side, so then one side of the light is brighter than the other - given LEDs are more directional light.

Unless the fan has 2x 3E27 sockets, this can look a bit odd, and lopsided light output.

        • Also I had one person tell me lights built into fans (if lopsided) makes them feel a bit dizzy.k (while the fan is running). I didn’t feel it but it’s a minor possibility

    • One aspect to consider is the increased depth from the ceiling. My upstairs ceiling is only 8 feet high, so fans like these tend to come down quite low. Presumably LED ones have a slimmer profile but likely pricier

      • Yeah these fans installed in standard ceilings is quite scary. I've got friends who are tall so are mere centimetres away from the blades.

Don't get a fan with a light at all, in my opinion.

If it takes normal lamps then most of the light is wasted (directionally), if it takes custom lamps then they are very expensive to replace.
A bunch of the light that is produced is diminished by the glass. Plus having a sealed luminaire is contraindicated.
I tried many different things such as linear LEDs but never got an acceptable result.

I gave up and installed 4x LED downlights in all the bedrooms and disconnected the light from the fan.

    • I prefer E27. The built in LEDs are often very bright (~2000 lumens) with no way to dim them*, which is no good for bedrooms. If you can change a light globe, you can just change it out for the right light output and colour temperature.

      • … shy of covering some of the LEDs with black tape, or cutting the circuit tracks permanently.
      • The arlec fans are tri colour led and dimmable and get very bright

      • agree the way too bright LED built in for some (we have a prime example). I've resorted to cutting paper to fit in the glass cover. Goes brown after a while, doesn't look great to start with, but at least we aren't blinded every time the light is turned on.
Why there is no dimmer built in i don't know.

  • do you have any decent large outdoor fans (no light ok) that won't rust? disappointed with my martec stainless steel ones…

    • Good ask….. Although I was going to post to ask if anyone has general recommendations for outdoor fans that will be under a covered verandah.

    • Hi Derdew, You could have a look at the Hunter Pacific Aqua ceiling fan. Quite a number of options are now available in with ABS blades and are suitable for an Alfresco area. The Ventair Skyfan is another on you could consider. If I can help further, please let me know.

  • Good price but I'm pretty sure the first model is the same as I got installed through our house. All have had issues with capacitors failing causing the fans to only work on slow speed. Had all four replaced under warranty and 3 have failed again now out of warranty. One fan has completely stopped working ~4/5 years after installation. Even when working they create much less breeze than the 30+ year old fans they replaced, ok if directly underneath like in a small bedroom but not effective in a bigger loungeroom. They mostly run quiet though and light is fine, put in whatever bulb you like. Anyway wary to buy the same, can anyone recommend another good brand? I need to replace the broken one

    • It looks very similar to the beacon lighting futura fan (old model) that we have. Looking at this one to replace a broken one as well with similar issues of failure

      • You can replace just the capacitor for about 7 bucks.

  • Hi Op, any deals on the Fanco Eco style DC fans?

    • Hi Mel-waukee,

Feel free to email us through the website what you are after with quantities and we will see what we can come up with for you! :)
