  • Bought this for my wifes new Asus Zenbook. Works well , but really only using it it for the USB ports

Wow Haribol moved away from making gummy bears?

  • -1

    No HDMI?

      • +2

        Yeah… nah.

        4K UHD @ 30Hz

        • +1

They have others that are 4K 60Hz, that's just the first one I saw.

          • @yippy: Let's not let people buy it though.

            • @pizzaguy: I can't control what people buy. Not my problem if they don't do their own research.

              • +5

@yippy: Not great to suggest subpar products to them tho…

      • Fantastic, thank you.

        • It's only 30hz at 4k, if you need 4k look for a different product.

          • @incipient: Thanks, but it's perfect for my use case.

Chromebook with one type c, need to connect external mouse, keyboard, speakers (using a ugreen usb a to 3.5mm) and a 1080p screen.

Until laptops have 2 usb c ports as standard i will find these products quite useless

    • +1

      Why?

      • Because it castrates the other functions to have 4k60 and PD charging through cheap hardware has reportedly killed ozbargainers laptops before

So, native usb c port on your laptop for 4k60 and charging
Second usb c used just as a hub

        • I'm really not a fan of cheap junk myself, but there aren't many good options for hubs like this unfortunately.

From a safety perspective, it should be fairly difficult for the hub to damage a laptop. This hub is only connected to another usbc charger, so at worst it could either short out, or incorrectly pass up to 20v, but as it's within spec, I'd hope most PD controllers on a laptop could handle incorrect-but-within-spec voltage.

        • the best cheap docking solution is to get a displayport 1.2 hub with a usb 2 port, then plug a usb2 hub into it.

You get 4k@60hz, PD charging, and USB all over the one cable.

Yes its limited to usb2 only, but if you are just running keyboard/mouse/webcam usb2 is fine.

Its also compatible with most laptops without any extra drivers.

  • actually canceled looks like a pos for the price

  • Do you think this one will be a better option?

    • +1

Keep in mind it's 4k@30hz which is not great for everyday work, games, probably not the greatest for anything. Mere HD's fine.

      • +1

Totally agree. But the one OP posted doesn't have HDMI. Both have Gigabit Ethernet and 100w PD which I think it's the selling point of these hubs.

30hz = Jumpy mouse. Utterly unusable.

  • downside to this device is that the usbc port is only for PD so if you have another usbc that you want to connect to your PC or laptop this would not work
eg. connect a usbc-usbc cable for data transfer 🙅‍♂️

    • Good call.

  • Will the ports work with out a powr supply? I just want to add dual monitors on my laptop which has only 1 hdmi out put
