Good price on the Gold only. I just got the silver from HN price matched to office works $1749 (I know everyone here hates Gerry, but he's the closest to me and there was something I wanted on clearance). Checked to see if anything was cheaper because they have 7 day price match and gutted to see Amazon had it cheaper.. then less gutted to see it was gold only. True story.

My apple education store shows this model for $1631.30

    • I saw it at $1699 on the education store. Didn't want to wait for delivery which might have delays due to Christmas period. How come yours is cheaper?

It is targeted so you need to clear your cache and log in from the right side.
On the other hand you could always pay for a rectal size extension on either of the big G's!

Geoff is just like Gerry. Both have their large intestine opening growing bigger every day!

      • Who is Geoff?

Sorry, misspellt Jeff. Anyway he is getting more and more like Gerry. Tried to open an account with twitch. Sory not possible without serious privacy breaches!

  • Given how long people use their Macs wouldn’t16gb be a better option? Although I think only Apple sells this config?

    • I picked up a 16GB CTO at an eBay sale.

      • 16GB CTO ? Kindly paraphrase

          Configure To Order, I believe.

      • Never understood the 16GB use case. Is it just to keep more tabs open simultaneously? If you push the laptop this far surely you also need active fan cooling and so an mbp??

        • +3

I have a lot of apps and tabs open. My 8GB Mac mini grinds to a halt several times a day. I never have an issue with my 16GB MacBook Air.

In any case, you can't add more RAM, so just get it up front if you are not certain 8GB is enough for you. Pushing the RAM does not cause heat, only pushing the CPU.

@mostlygordon: Yeah it really comes down to personal use case and longevity. I have the M1 Macbook Pro in 8gb and its serves me great so far, havent noticed any slowdowns and works better than my main PC in some cases, for optimized apps. But my workload is pretty insignificant. But if the workload is heavy, you open heaps of tabs, and want it to last a few more years/hold its market value better, then the 16gb is the way to go.

@OWALL: Yes, all in the use case. I have 32GB in my Thinkpad and 64GB in my desktop, but run VMs on those…

            • @OWALL: Makes sense. Have heard the new type of RAM is way different

              • +1

@Kanjus: The new RAM is just on the CPU die, so lower latency. But, there is nothing magic about it. I've heard people say it's like having twice as much as normal RAM; this is not true.
