Am I the only one who finds these deals frustrating? I mean I feel it’s against ozbargain to be with such an expensive provider…

      Cheapest in my area

Lucky! Or I guess unlucky depending on how you look at it haha

Or better yet, sign up with ReAmped for better rates and use this from kmart to control your aircon (tv etc).

Currently hooked up with the free Alexa echo dot. Works through voice commands "turn on AC" "set AC to heat/cool" "set temperature to xx". fan speed controlling doesnt work tho - or haven't figured it out.

      • While there's nothing wrong with your concept, the thing that Sensibo brings to the table is the sensors (hence the name). It can automate aircon on/off according to climate settings - humidity, temperature etc. which in theory means that you get a more stable and less energy-intensive solution.

Whether that's what happens or not, I'm not sure, but I have definitely appreciated it kicking off the aircon on its own rather than turning my house into a hot-box - attractive as that might be.

Ah didnt know it had sensors too, thats cool then I guess.

I can't see the page as I'm not a customer. What are the terms? Does this allow them to turn off your aircon if demand is too high on the grid?

Not trying to scare people off the deal, just curious.

No , this does not connect to or report back to Origin in any way

      • This page mentions a trial where they did just that, albeit with permission from the customer and with a financial incentive https://www.originenergy.com.au/blog/reimagining-the-future-…

During times of peak electricity demand, trial participants were asked if they were okay for Origin to remotely adjust their air conditioner’s temperature by two degrees for two hours in return for a credit on their account.

        • Which you could just override with the remote.

          • @Manny Calavera: Yeah probably, although you might need to cover the transmitter on the Sensibo too.

The way it was implemented in the trail sounds like a reasonable idea, so not saying this is a bad thing necessarily. But I wouldn't put it past companies to just slip it into the terms that they reserve the right not to contact you as they deem necessary.

        • It would have to be an opt-in feature where you link your Sensibo account to your Origin account. I can't see how they could possible implement that without consent/action required from the end user

          • @MostlyRidiculous: I would hope it would be. But you have to be logged in to purchase, so they could easily link a serial number with your account during checkout. Maybe I'm just overly cynical, but it seems to be the way of the world these days.

Just get a broadlink rm4 for a cheaper price. Works a treat for the aircon, TV and anything else I want to use remotely.

    • Is the broadlink recognised as a thermostat by Google Home yet?
It wasn't the last time I looked but might have changed.

  • AGL has the same deal, currently.

  • I cant see it on the AGL website, anyone have a link for it??

  • These are great. I tried another brand called Ambiclimate (nowhere near as good) and a Broadlink (couldn't work it out and I'm tech minded). The Sensibo are very well sorted out.

  • can i control ducted ac? and do i need to have electrician to install?

  • If anyone with an Origin account is able to help me out then please PM me! I'd be much obliged :)
