@MikeKulls: No your understanding of how the system works is completely clueless. So what I replied to was wrong pointless information

                • @DoesntEvenMatter: Surely surely you get that I mean you can buy injectors OR a PoE switch. Surely that is obvious and you're just being obtuse. I honestly can't understand how someone would read what I wrote and would conclude you'd need 2 sources of PoE power. As for DVR vs NVR I'm old school and still call it a digital video recorder just because. Again everyone but you got what I meant.

          • @MikeKulls: Legally, you need to pay a qualified person to run an ethernet cable to your camera, so you may as well get them to put in a GPO. You can put them in the roof space where no one is going to unplug them.

Either way is comparable if you're doing a new build and/or complete fitout, but wifi is easier to adhoc (IMO).

            • @macrocephalic: Legally yes ;-) However if you're going to pay someone you may as well get ethernet as it's a far superior solution for many reasons

        • I just noticed 48V poe injectors are $3.44 on Ali and 6 port switch (4 PoE) is $30

    • I owned one of this and had to return. The quality was not good.

  • Bugger missed out. Been waiting for this sale but too slow :/

  • The only thing annoying about these is that you can't watch playback on desktop due to the flash end of life. The firmware hasn't been updated to fix it.

Can only watch it on mobile. Thinking of returning mine as a result. It's so annoying

It has been updated. They moved eveything over to html6 a year ago and can use the new pc client app. Make sure your IPC are updated to the latest fw

      • What model do you have? The latest fw for me still isn't working

        • D800s, D520s D820s. All can be seen through a browser or client

      Certainly working on mine

  • How does Reolink compare to Eufy? Does Reolink have a no subscription service like Eufy too?

    • +1

Most Reolink cameras support third party apps via ONVIF and RTSP streams (except for the battery operated ones). You don't need to use their software if you want to run your own apps.

      • The reolink app is free for viewing and local storage. I don't think there's any free option for cloud storage.

Good to know that they support industry standard protocols if I decide to add a NVR.

        • Does Reolink have a local server like with the Homebase with Eufy?

          • @ilovefullprice: You can use reolink cameras standalone, or connect them to an NVR. TBH the Eufy homebase doesn't really do much, it has a little bit of storage, and it acts as a hub for eufy devices, but that seems a bit superfluous when you already have a wifi router.

            • @macrocephalic: Thanks!

Sorry noob question, can wifi routers act as storage like the Homebase?

If I use the Reolink camera stand alone, does that mean the storage is inside the Reolink camera itself?

              • +1

@ilovefullprice: I don't know if there are routers that have NVR capability. It's not something I've ever looked into.

The Reolink cameras (and lots of others) have a microSD slot in them and the recording can be stored locally. You can also connect them to an NVR - but you don't have to. Of course, if the camera is for security then having the storage in the camera is a pretty big hole flaw.

  • Can get more 20% off voucher for RLC-520?
