Big Blu-Ray Sale @ Dick Smith - from $8

86

NOTE: THIS IS IN-STORE ONLY. CLEARANCE ITEMS - YOUR LOCAL STORE MAY HAVE A LOT OR ZERO. IF THEY ARE LIKE HORNSBY STORE THEY'LL HAVE NONE BECAUSE Mod: allegedly THE STAFF WILL ALREADY HAVE SOLD THEM ON EBAY.

Risky putting up a DICK SMITH deal so soon after the monumental clusterf… that was his gaming sale.

Nevertheless this is worth sharing.

Dick Smith at George Street, Sydney has a couple of pages of printouts listing blu ray movies they are selling for $8.

There have to be at least 150 titles.

Titles include:
- Heat
- Underworld Trilogy
- Die Hard Quadrilogy
- Monsters Inc
- Wall-E
- The Simpsons Season 20
- Planet Earth - Complete collection

Apparently this list is "As advertised" but I can't find any ads for it…

What impressed me the most was there was about 10 box sets of various descriptions - these are insane value if you can get them….

Mod: Removed commentary.

Remains to be seen if they will actually have anything in stock.

  • +1

To be fair, you can still check the stock level online but whether or not that changes while you're heading to the store (ie people/staff brodening up etc)…

    • +1

Not sure that these titles are showing up online at all - the majority I have looked for don't show online

Eg. Heat, Underworld Trilogy, Planet Earth boxset.

BTW - of all the movies on the list, George Street only had Heat that was of interest to me.

I would love the Underworld Trilogy or Planet Earth boxset if someone can find a spare copy…

      • if you are in melbourne , chadstone store has the planet earth box set for $25 and when i called up they still have 13 copies

        • Thanks - In Sydney. $25?

          Looks like another Dickup…

      • Apparently Carlingford store has stock according to the Nth Sydney store that I just called to ask about the sale. They don't have any of the DVDs on sale in stock.

    • +1

The stock level online for stores is not real time. It only updates nightly at 2am apparently. Easily confirmed this on Sunday when I checked my local Dick Smith for the G27. I know I bought the last 2 (of the 8 they had sold that day) but when I checked again at home was still showing plenty of stock.

  • Well, that's one hell of a description for a sale…

Called up my local Dick Smith, they confirmed they had many for $8 but they weren't sure which.

  • +3

Woolworths are evil, I know, I work there!

  • +4

Rang my local Dick Smith and they said that there was no sale on. What a surprise that this clearance sale would not be handled very well.

  • +1

I'm in the chullora dse store die hard scans at 50 bucks not 8. Is there any list or advertisement somewhere???

    • +1

There are a about 5 pages of A4 printouts at the George St, Sydney store. They refer to the sale "As Advertised" but I can't find anything on the web for it nor could I see any brochure in store for it.

Suggest you ask Chullora to ring George St….

A bit hit and miss. Not enough info from dick smith

    • +2

This. They're sales seem to be so confusing hahaha

  • +10

Seems like DSE has become ozbargain's new COTD.

    • +1

lol. But sometimes they're awesome with the eneloop batteries. Then again the $15 earphones from QQQ-COTD was fine too.

  • How do you expect Dick Smith to sell electronics made in Australia when there is no electronics made in Australia?

Woolworths(and others Aldi,Coles etc) can buy from Australia and should be buying from Australia.

At least we have the chance to keep food made here in Australia.

    • That's good and all for the local employees, but most of the local food production is owned by foreign companies. e.g. sugar and dairy industries.

      • We should also encourage business owners to not sell to over seas companies.

    • +1

yes, love to see "Home Brand" 3D LED TV or "Select" TV =)

  • +3

It should be noted that Dick Smith sold his stores to Woolworth's in the early 1980s, well before China had a global electronics industry. Back then everything electronic was made in Japan and South Korea. Australia's electronics industry fizzled in the early 1970s with the wind back of trade protection.

I am pretty sure a lot was sourced from Taiwan too - but Japan did make a lot…

      • You're right. I forgot Taiwan, and quite a bit of lower end gear was once sourced from Hong Kong too. HK pre 1997 and Taiwan today is a bit of a touchy subject for some today however :-)

  • I'm keen to see some more prices before I head in as this morning they had no sale stickers on their Blu Rays which will make it hard for me to know what's on sale.

  • I went into my DSE today and got some good gaming specials , tomorrow Im gonna go look for blu rays..go DSE!

I think most of the anger came from people hunting insanely priced hardware ….. as if there was gonna be much of that around.

    not on at glen waverley..

DSE? Automatic neg like COTD :D

Actually the post is quite vague and no evidence has been put forward.

  • +4

negging because u dont like the company is silly

also dont like the fact the poster is having a go at the dick smith person.. whats the point of advertising a sale if u dont like it?

  • +1

My local store has xmen and fast and furious for $8, well that's all that's stickered.

  • +1

Just been to the Macquarie shopping center store and none on sale… waste of my time…

  • -2

    Another Deep Throat tip?

  • +3

I hope we will collectively decide to ban "unofficial clearance" DSE stuff from OzBargain. There's something shady about unofficially advertising stuff that you can't officially advertise because it doesn't actually exist, or is in limited quantities and only in certain stores.

  • +2

Dont trust these people at all with stock levels or anything.

  • FayQ 60 min ago Comment unpublished. (Incorrect use of negative vote. Use the hide button in future.)

It doesn't matter who unpublished my comment, but I think most people had the worst shopping experience with them yesterday, and this for this blue-ray sale event, it haven't any info on their website and who knows it's turn or not ?

  • +1

Went to nunawading, like 5 crap movies there. Slightly annoyed that when I called the guy said 'you better come in, there's a whole lot here'. Apparently it was a sale last week or something so most of it is gone.

  • Isn't Woolworths selling DSE? How do all these sales relate?

  • +2

Probably only George Street. Since all the regular prices are still displayed on the web site. And nobody has confirmed finding similar prices at other stores.

  • +4

Why should I? So I can come into store and find out there's nothing left? Get lost DSE

    • +1

      This man speaks the truth.

  • important to note that it wasn't actually dse who linked this. it is very different to cotd.

  • +1

This honestly seems too good to be true. When does the "sale" start?

  • +1

    Nice try DSE

  • +1

I do not understand the posted deal by the OP.

Greatwhitehunter doesn't appear to work at DSE and the link does not even go to the deal mentioned - it just goes to the main DSE web page?

    • +1

      Fox

This is in-store only. Supposedly it is advertised, but I don't know where because it is not on the web or in any flyer/pamphlet I have seen….

I sure as hell don't work at DSE - if I did I wouldn't be on here posting this deal, I'd be too busy listing Xboxes and blu-rays on EBAY like my colleagues…

Good oppurtunity for staff to sell on ebay, but that wouldn't happen would it?:)
