I'd hate to look at my friend's oculus with this thing

  • +6

I use this to light up squid jig at night

    • how is this better then normal light? please tell very interested

      • Different light spectrum helps light up "glow" jigs so it's easier for squid to see the jig.
You can light up a jig with your phone flashlight but it will take longer and won't be as bright

      • the glow in dark strips on the jig reacts much better on UV lights.
I also have those portable uv sterilizer bag I bought, changed the existing uv LED to another uv led strip which has more LEDs and connected to my powerbank.
Put all the jigs in the bag, turn it on, leave it on till you get to your fishing spot. Take the jig out, you will be amazed to the glowing lights.

        • sounds interesting. do you have links to these items?

          • +2

@gummibear: For the sterilizer bag you can just get from ebay.
I bought one of this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/224196343969?hash=item343324b8a1…

And buy UV LED strip from Ebay or Aliexpress but get the one with USB connector so you can use it with your powerbank.

Cut the side of bag carefully to insert UV led strip. Use glue gun or double sided tape to stick the UV LED strip around the bag (inside)
            * 30cm or 40cm strip required.

Seal the cutout and make sure USB Connector is on the outside of the bag.

            Thats it.

The reason I do this with sterilizer bag:

            1. sterilizer bag's UV Led only turns on for 30 seconds and off automatically. So by adding new strip, you can leave this turned on all the time
            2. Put anything you want, Squid jigs, glow in dark baits, floats, etc. The bag is big
            • @Dalgona456: Thanks for the tips, sounds like the sterlizer bag is used primarily for the reflective lining as you prefer your own light anyway

So apparently it does all this but you decided to lead with dog's piss..
It's a bold strategy, wontten, let's see if it pays off for you

  • +7

    Yes, it was "dog's" piss.

    • +2

thought it tasted like it, but just making sure

  • For anyone interested - a 365nm led does a much much better job…

I got this one recently, not as cheap and i think i had to pay shipping as well….. but damn, it's night and day difference compared to a 395nm torch.

Well, they didn’t include a year, so I guess they’re no lying,..

    • Just got mine and it seems to be very weak. There is only a small spot in the centre that works the best.

      • Which one, the OP's 395nm one or the 365nm one from Unclefugger's link?

        • +1

The 365nm one linked in comment. It does work on some things like the holograms on cash, dust and white items but I tested it on my pillow expecting some saliva and on toilet thinking it would pick up some overspray but nothing lol

          • +1

@8azinga: Cool toy for the kids to play with, but that's about it.
Way too much light to distinguish what marks are supposed to be what. Could see a slight colour difference in the kids poor toilet aim, but with how close I had to get with UV light, I could see with my eyes anyway!

      • You won't see much visible output at all from the 365nm torch - typical human eye see's 380-750nm. So while it looks dull, the UV light is not what you're looking for, it's the reflection from the UV reactive substances. Turn off all your lights, and use it in pitch black dark for best results.

        • +1

We realise you won't see the 365nm light but that doesnt change the fact that it still seems like this torch is weak. It reflects stuff like white things easily in the dark but anything worth seeing, the torch needs to be very close, in some instances, 30cm before i shows a stain. The working area is very small with a bright spot in the middle but outside that, it doesn't detect much apart from white things, dust etc so it takes a lot of passes to find spots. At least that is what my torch is like. I thought i may have got a defective item but sounds like Snoop's is similar. Even with holograms on cash, the centre of the torch needed to be pointing right at it. Move the torch so the centre is only a few cm away from the hologram and it no longer shows even though the weaker part of the light is still shining on it.

          • @8azinga: Not sure I/we didn't just get supplied the typical cheap 395nm version!!!

          • @8azinga: Ahhh gotchya, that sucks. Maybe a dud unit? Mine works up to 4-6meters with no problems. Probably a stupid question - it didn't come with dodgy generic batteries did it?

            • @Unclefugger: Didnt come with batteries and says this in the link. You sure you bought that torch?

Is this what people are taking with them while staying at hotels nowadays? 😅

    • +2

      Yeah, looking for "dog urine"

Saw this on Gordon Ramsay - Hotel Hell 😅

        • +4

This is why you don't rent hotel rooms out to dogs.

Edit - I'll be honest. Now I'm just watching videos of Gordon ripping into people.

"Is this what people are taking with them while staying at hotels nowadays? 😅"
      smile of the hotel
I do… always. A great way to see the smiley face on the hotel manager turn upside down very quickly, particularly the posh 5* pubs. As the MasterCard ads used to say… 'Priceless!'

Getting a free upgrade might be nice but when you think about what you have just witnessed, do you reckon that this upgrade to the 'Presidential Suite' be necessarily any better (cleaner)?

      Happy holidays ;)

      • +1

depends ….. pee on carpet yourself …..get manager and show under flashlight and get a room upgrade …. use to check if people have peed on toilet seats e.g in airplanes …… check if you partner has showered before bed ….this has a 1001 uses …..

  • +2

Is this good for spoodge stains?

    • +2

Only if you ejaculate dog pee.

  • +3

I have this exact one, worked well for me to spot scorpions

  • +6

Bought! Thanks OP! Now just got to buy myself a dog.

    • +1

Skip the dog, just disguise yourself to look like a lamp post. Then it's just UV light disco time.

  • +3

Just saying, never take these on Holidays, you will regret it.

  • Better off to spend a bit more & get a Convoy C8 UV with filter, extension tube, 18650 battery (equivalent 4 x AA) etc. This one doesn't do 365nm either….

  • These are rubbish. I bought one when my cat was ill and peeing everywhere. Didn’t show anything except dust.

    • +3

What you experienced was actually full urine saturation. You couldn't see it because everything WAS it.

    • +1

That's because these are only good for dog pee ;-)

  • +1

    The comment section hahahaha

  • +3

Ahh yes, those magical UV "Beads" they use in electronics and wizardry.

  • +1

    Semen on bedspread checking?

  • +4

Get your dog to pee in a jar, pour it into your engine oil and detect leaks.

  • Good for charging up glow-in-the-dark items. Eg. Funko Pops.

  • +2

    Oh cum on.

We all know what everyone will use it for.

  • It's a UV light and commonly used by Fly fishermen who tie their own Flies to cure resin cement.
There's a lot of crap ones out there so buy a good one from Solarez,Loon et al.
The OP's one here looks OK.

  • Reckon this will work for cat piss?

  • Handy to check if the Uranium glass you are looking to buy is genuine.

I mean… Do you really wanna know? Best not to shine light on some things ..

  • https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000818056510.html?spm=a2g0s… - bought this one instead - 18650 battery, charger, and 365nm - $20.78 shipped….. no idea of the quality, or whether the 18650 will explode!

    • Was about to type: Less than $12 today shipped with charger. Less than $4 if you've got your own batteries!
But then the price got jacked in the time it took me to type it!!! 😂
edit: "New User Bonus". I wasn't logged in. And now I've cleared cookies it's come back cheaper! ;)

  • My room is pretty clean but it just lights up like vivid when I turn it on but no streaks so must be clean.
