          • @congo: Can you advise how to get it, what is the code pls thanks

            • @ozvictor: Log into the edu store and use the code - EDUCOMM

        • Good luck trying to ask for additional discount on the Lenovo EDU store. I ordered 5x laptops about a month ago - but before doing so asked one of the online sales reps via the chat about them, and they said "as you're interested in ordering multiples, I'll give you a discount" … only for them to discover they couldn't provide any additional discount on those lines as they're already discounted. If others have had success, then well done… but even our government-department account managers @ Lenovo couldn't match the EDU portal pricing.

        • Lenovo is on sale every month. It's better to sit back and compare with models from Dell eBay store as well.

  • Does anyone have a link to the same product at the Good guys or is it officeworks specific product only?

Only found this one at TGG:

  • I've bought one of these, but wondering whether this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670916 might be a better option for a lad starting high school who's interested in art. Are they comparable other than the screen, and would it be worth the extra $275?

    • -2

Definitely not suitable for school IMHO, sorry.
Anyone doing art will want a 2-in-1 (pref. keyboard folds back or removable) touch-screen with stylus. Actually, I'd recommend that for any schoolkid.

Also, at 1.9kg this is double the weight of my kids' current laptops. Much too heavy for carrying around all day.
Bulky 15.6" screen is good for older people, but no use to young eyes, who can just sit closer.

But for me, going between desks, I'm very tempted. Only problem is the soldered RAM - some of the software I use is horribly bloated, and struggling in 16GB.

    • My kid uses her active stylus all the time for artwork on the laptop.
Possibly you could get away with an external Wacom tablet on this.

No rj45 socket - don’t suppose it comes with a network dongle?

Yes! Please refer to tech specs, further down the page on the Lenovo website if you need additional information.

    • USB-C charging @ 95W
      Slim Tip charging @ 135W
I believe it's either one or the other with the slim models, but if you end up with both like the flex, then you may wish to consider the slim tip

  • +3

    Bought, think later. Thanks OP!

  • +4

I have bought one just in case, but there's no way they will honor this right? How many stocks would they even have?

  • +2

1.9kg?? So heavy tho. Definitely feel the inconvenience when jumping from xps13 to anything weight more than 1.5kg

    • There is an equivalent 14" version with similar spec, just not at this great price. Just depends on your needs.

      • -1

The 14" Flex 5 weights 1.49kg and that's with a full touch glass screen. The 15.6" Flex 5 (again a full touch glass screen), weights 1.99kg. 1.9kg is excessive.

Even the HP ZBook Studio G8 Workstation 15.6" with 11th gen i9 vPro with an NVIDIA RTX A5000 or GeForce RTX™ 3080 + Either the same specs or better / more (ports, SSD, Ram, Casing, Screen) is still under 4 pounds (~1.8kg)

I starting to question unless they made, they alloy case out of aluminium + lead, 1.9kg maybe a specs error

        • +1

Wait until you find out a 16" MBP weighs close to 2.2kg

  • This or the Microsoft Surface 4, it would be used only for office work. A lot of different programs and databases, with MS Office 365 and Onedrive

  • I still stand with great deal OP and if OW has made a price error, I hope they honour it to the community. IdeaPad Slim 5 Pro Specs

Starting at 1.9 kg (seems excessive for a non-glass screen, even with thin stamped Aluminium sheeting), soldered ram, no fingerprint reader (This hurts), No ethernet port, slower USB-C charging @ 95W, than 135W with the Slim Tip.

Common Lenovo, seems like spending another $10 in production costs (not to mention the savings generated in R&D, but not complicating / removing items) could easily add 10 times that in value to the product. I'm sure even if you only gave 8gb ram to cut costs, but had non-soldered type (old fashion slots), most would still be willing to pay the same $$$ for half the ram but with upgradability.

Also does anyone know why laptop's still have such shite warranties? A $19 Telstra phone has 2 years.

  • +3

At 1.9kg it's not ideal for school but it's on the lighter side for 16". Otherwise very capable even for older games and great deal.
For school I suggest waiting for a deal on a 14" laptop at 1-1.4kg

    • +2

Just seeing people around university (So 18+), I have made a list of common laptops I see them use. 1.5kg and under seems the perfect weight without backpacking it. Above is fine if you walk less than 500 metres from class to the car, but I couldn't imagine having to be a kid trying to carry these around all day. Also, a point to add that you have missed is to consider the weight of the charger and accessories. I had the Surface Book 1 13.5" and it was manageable as I didn't have to go far. When the UAG case arrived, this tipped the balance and made it a lot heavier. I totally agree you with 1.9kg isn't great for kids and many adults would want to carry it around all day

Dell XPS 9310 and HP Spectre x360 are really good choices if budget isn't an issue.

        • +1

I agree. I don't see a lot of them anymore in the uni's. XPS are still somewhat common, but x360 seems to have failed to hit the student market (flip/touch) as the Flex's are so well priced and if you want to spend more or get better pen use surfaces kill the comp. My Surface Book 1 with the Performance base cost me $925 delivered via Microsoft student back in the day. Alot of my mates brought them and then just keep upgrading with the surface range.

Also starting to see these chromebook's more and more. I don't know how they function, but if you live in the google metaverse, they look decent for basic note taking, assessments and the usual videos, zoom etc

          • +1

@Froot Loops: Interesting observations! Cheers for the input. XPS are definitely more frequently sighted and for good reason - they're very well built. Shame that people are overlooking HP laptops, I find them to be more reliable (and more aesthetic) than Dell laptops. Surface Pro 8 looks good, much better than the previous generations which seemed stale to me. Lenovo Yogas seems to be popular as well for 2in1 devices.

Chromebooks are funny to me, I can't fathom how it can be used besides basic and lightweight tasks (i.e. note taking, browsing, videos, etc.) - especially if you need to run specialised software or heavier productivity tasks. I guess mileage varies from person to person.

            • +1

@miinht: I'm keen to see how to Pro 8 works with the pen. I find dell's and their pens aren't great (I had one Jan last year and returned it, as it kept getting confused with my hand). Yoga pretty much = Flex for touch performance, without the price tag.

I'm gathering people would use the university desktops or borrowable laptops that use windows for "specialised software", like SPSS. I remember when I did stats the software we used (I cannot remember the name of the package, just my dislike for it), didn't run on Macs either at the time.

I might have another play with a x360 when I'm in JB or OW next. Been a few years since I tried one

            • @miinht: Chromebooks are pretty good. Much more useful than a typical Android tablet. You could even leave your home desktop on and RDP into that if you need more power.

    • +1

Kids have it so easy nowadays. I went through uni with a Dell xps that weighed about 2.5kg. 2hr Max battery life so had to lug another 6 cell battery, 150w charger aswell. 5kg easily with all the gear, thing sounded like a jet taking off.

      • +1

Yep, not so long ago 15" laptops were 3+ kg. This 16" is "only" 1.9kg.

This model is Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics not NVIDIA GeForce GTX that all are referring to.

Here. The GTX 1650 is in the upgraded of version. People are using the link to get more information (OW is very basic). Funny how the upgrade model is still 8gb of ram as standard

        • So it's $1899 on Lenovo website for 16 fig ram….

          • @pyramid: $1,644 for the same as above and $1,894 for the same as above, but with GTX 1650

            • @Froot Loops: Massive price difference
It's a shame, would of liked better GPU for $100-200 but that's dreaming I spose lol

              • -1

@[Deactivated]: As stated, this is likely a price error on OW's part. They may just give refunds as it is well below RRP and is a new product

                • @Froot Loops: Went into OW in Osborne Park and they have one on display advertised as $998.00 so not an error.

    • The review unit has 120hz display, is this model 60hz or 120hz ?

    • Just be careful as Lenovo has way too many configurations. It's the Flex 5 and buying from Amazon US vs AU all over again.

  • the integrated GPU/iGPU is a vega 6, just wondering how would it fare with the iGPU on the 3 year old ryzen 2500u which has vega 8. the ryzen 2500u is 3+ years old as i understand it.

    Cheers

    • +1

Specs say the 5600h integrated Gpu is the Vega 7
The nvidia equivalent is a 1050m which is faster

  • Unable to purchase.. getting cancellation email from OW

  • Awesome, bought for my boy going into year 7. He's a big lad, hoping he can handle the weight. Too good not to buy…

  • MSI GS66 STEALTH RTX 2060 512SSD, I7 10TH GEN, IPS 240HZ, 16GB RAM.

BRAND NEW IN BOX, MY MATES FRIEND IS MOVING BACK TO SINGAPORE AND SAID $1500?

SHOULD I CANCEL THIS AND BUY THAT? I HONESTLY DONT GAME AS I HAVE A PS5.
This CPU is faster, it's basically $500+ for a GPU, and better screen.

    Sorry about caps 🤣🤣🤣

    • Too late now, this is no longer available.

      • You or me? I already bought it, but pick up isn't til 20th.

    • MSI GS66 STEALTH is a nice laptop

      • Yeah, but is it worth $500-600 more?

        • RTX 2060 + 240Hz
          I think so.

          • @congo: Yeah, I don't know.
60% more, 2060 isn't amazing performance wise and the CPU falls behind this.

I guess it's worth it, if you want mid-spec gaming.

            • @[Deactivated]: Cpu falls behind?
I7 10th gen. RTX2060 is better than iGpu

              • @congo: AMD Ryzen 5600H out performs it, I checked tests online.

Yes, the GPU is better but the laptop is $500-600 more. It's alot more from a shop aswell.

  • Not sure why this is OOS, as it is orderable online

    • Its available for back order

      • It says nothing about backorder and has the same long delivery date as before. They aren't OOS

  • Thanks, bought 1

  • Not out of stock since I can back order delivery 4th jan, successful order at 5.55pm Adelaide time

  • Got one too…. the hype all day on this laptop… FOMO…;)

  • +1

    Back in stock. Got 1.

  • Got one replace my old Toshiba laptop, email say these items are currently out of stock and on backorder. estimate time 31st of December, 2021

  • How long you have to Click and Collect from store?

  • I think it's a good price, saying that something better may pop up Boxing day.

It's one of those things 🤣🙏

  • Anyone already picked up from click and collect

    • Op did

  • Will be interesting to see if they have any stock to deliver or C&C by the 'estimated' dates

When I contacted Lenovo store support for the same build they all said 8+ weeks minimum

  • What are the chances this is a pricing error? Surely Officeworks would have noticed by now?

    • It would have been taken down if it was price error.

    • +2

I think a lot of people are claiming price error so then can rationalise buying a laptop they dont need. That's what I'm doing anyways..

      • I need it, but normally spend months researching.

    • I received two emails, first was order on review and second is order confirmation 15 minutes later. Surely they'd catch pricing error during review?

    • I doubt its an error, even if it was, I have a feeling they might fill it anyways. The price point of this is about par with Lenovo's education store pricing, but just local stock and not being sent from China.

      • I believe someone mentioned around $1150 EDU, but didn't confirm if 8/16gb ram…could be an extra $100

        • It was me and yes it was with 16gb configuration.

        • Makes me wonder if its worth it then since I have edu email

    • It is not an error, I saw one in OW Osborne Park (WA) advertised for $998. Mine is not available until Monday.

      • Did you take a photo of it in case OW pulls the price error card?

      • Physical signs doesn't mean it's not an error, might just be an error that has gone too far.

I brought a Galaxy A21s from OW a while back. When I got there, I showed them on the phone at the 146 price. During the time between I asking and them getting it, the price reverted to 297 and scanned on the POS as such. Luckily I went wandering in the phone area and saw the tag for 146. So I just asked them to honour the store price, the guy even said he just put the price labels out in the morning.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/626005

      • I asked in store and was told it's online only model. Usually with OW if you see price in store but no stock you can ask for quote that freezes price for 30 days so you can buy things that are discounted but not in stock, but they could not do it for this laptop.

  • Website page is down now.

    • +1

Ozbargain getting too big for it's own good

  • +2

Just brought it for the hype, cuz I need a new laptop as well.
Need to wait till end of December for click and collect, but actually not that bad, since I would have time to look for better deals during Boxing day. Probably just cancel the order by then if anything better come up :v

  • No 4 G

    • +2

Just use WiFi hotspot from a mobile, much better solution. If your mobile uses too much battery, carry a portable battery pack. Direct Internet connection with devices gives the age old problem of standard dial-up — you need to be very careful to properly firewall the device as you are directly connected to the Internet. Granted you may be safer with CG-NAT (carrier grade NAT), than with a proper, normal routable IP address…. but still, it's hardly a concern to me not having direct mobile connectivity on a laptop.

  • +3

Just found out that it doesn’t have Thunderbolt, I’m so used to 1 cable for external monitor output and charging. Considering cancel the order.

    • What's the practical difference between Thundebolt and DisplayPort over USB for connecting only display?

      • I've got 2 of them on my NUC but I doubt I will ever use them. Can't think of any use. eGPU? No.

        • +1

Well, person mentioned Thunderbolt said that he likes 1 to monitor cable and I think DisplayPort over USB-C can do that, so was wondering what else is there that requires Thunderbolt. I guess more than one display but it's unlikely you can power both over 1 cable.
